Graduate Research Assistant, Laboratory for Emotion and Addictive Processes, University of Arkansas Responsible for preparation and execution of laboratory projects. Contributed to design and data collection on two studies investigating the role of temporal perspective on positive and negative affect, a qualitative study investigating urge and craving among cigarette smokers, a measure-design study exploring adult recall of parental emotion coaching, and a measure-design study exploring individuals’ implicit theories about the nature of emotions.

Senior Honors Thesis, Department of Psychology, TCNJ Conducted secondary data analyses project to investigate rumination as a possible mediator of the relationship between invalidating environment and borderline personality features. Manuscript resulting from project is under final preparations.

Senior Collaborative Research, Romantic Relationships Research Laboratory, TCNJ Responsible for lead role in a research study that focused on the use of mitigation, a linguistic strategy used to dampen/attenuate emotions, in young women’s narratives about times when their partners did and did not meet their needs.

2010

National Science Foundation Research Intern in Applied Psychology, Applied Psychophysiology Laboratory, Clemson University Designed and conducted an experiment to test the impact of manipulating the number of pieces of food served on satisfaction after a meal. Gained experience using physiological measurements such as tracking wrist movement with an inertia cube and measuring respiratory sinus arrhythmia (heart rate variability that has been linked to stress). Contributed data to the development of a new monitor (the Bite Counter) to aid in the behavioral treatment of obesity.

2010

Research Apprenticeship, Department of Psychology, TCNJ Worked with the editor of the journal Child Maltreatment in project examining changes in published articles throughout the journals history. Developed coding sheet and coded all empirical articles from 1996-2010. Collaborated to write an editorial communicating discovered trends.

2009 - 2011

Research Assistant, Romantic Relationships Research Laboratory, TCNJ Conducted individual semi-structured interviews about conflict and nonconflict situations in participants’ romantic relationships. Utilized recording and transcribing software to digitally record participant interviews and transcribe interviews efficiently. Trained new lab members in interviewing, transcription, and coding proficiency. Collaborated on development of new interview protocols to be used for follow-up interviews.

Clinical and Healthcare Experience 2012-

Graduate Student Clinician, Psychological Clinic, University of Arkansas Responsible for provision of outpatient psychological assessment and treatment to student and community clients from Northwest Arkansas and the University of Arkansas. Additional experiences include weekly individual, peer, and group supervision meetings.

2009 - 2012

Emergency Medical Technician, Capital Health, Trenton, NJ Duties included the care, treatment, and transport (emergency and nonemergency) of patients in a predominantly low-income African American and Latino urban community. Patient population included individuals with a wide variety of medical and psychiatric difficulties including cardiovascular and respiratory illness, alcohol and drug overdose, traumatic injury, schizophrenia, and suicidality. Additional responsibilities included conducting physiological assessment, frequent report writing, and community outreach through healthfocused events (i.e., blood pressure screenings, heart walks, CPR classes).

Personal Development Specialist, Private Residence, Budd Lake, NJ Worked one-on-one with a physically and mentally impaired woman to facilitate her living as independently as possible. Responsibilities included personal hygiene, helping her with correspondence via email, and engaging her in various activities designed to increase her ability to spell and read.

Specialized Clinical Training 2012

Training in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD Attended a one-day clinical training workshop in the administration of cognitive processing therapy (CPT). Dr. Patricia Resick, the developer of CPT administered this training at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies in National Harbor, MD. Training included theoretical and empirical review of treatment for PTSD, detailed instruction of treatment sessions, and video review of experienced clinicians delivering the treatment.

Laboratory Manager, Laboratory for Emotion and Addictive Processes, University of Arkansas Duties include coordinating and supervising laboratory development and research, including management of 12 undergraduate research assistants to date (9 currently), preparation of study materials, and technological advancement. Also responsible for laboratory mentorship, recruitment and coordination of experiment participants, and executing active research protocols.
