Benvenuti a Roma! Livia Ottolenghi Local Organizing Committee

Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the Board of the European Association for Dental Public Health I am delighted to welcome you to our 16th Annual Meeting to be held in Rome. This is a fine opportunity for EADPH members and interested others to visit this eternal city, an astonishing place of the world heritage and to combine the visit with a high quality scientific meeting of dental public health researchers and practitioners from all parts of Europe and other countries. The Scientific Programme for 2011 was structured in order to address the major topics within Dental Public Health and in compliance with the EADPHʼs mission to promote the oral health of the population worldwide. The topics are intended to induce discussion on public health policies, new trends, overviews of research, teaching and clinical practice and also to stimulate a debate on a coordinated approach between dentistry and other branches of medicine in order to promote better general and oral health of the population. A Workshop on Quality of Research in Dental Public Health has been organized along with the Congress programme and I am happy to welcome its participants, new blood and future strength in dental public health research and practice. In the past few years the number of members of the EADPH family has been steadily growing and I want to acknowledge this trend reflecting a growing impact of our Association on oral health and quality of life of the population. The themes of the scientific programme, related to the quality of Dental Public Health Research and Methodology and Pan-European issues of Oral Health promotion affect all colleagues in the dental profession as it will relate to day-to-day practice in dental public health. In addition, the workshops of the Special Interest Working Groups led by experts in caries and periodontal epidemiology, gerodontology, health services research, oral cancer and tooth surface loss will complement the main scientific programme.

A tremendous work has been done by Prof. Livia Ottolenghi, a co-president of this Annual Meeting and her team, and their effort ought to be warmly acknowledged. Special thanks and acknowledgement should also be addressed also to the main sponsors of this Annual Meeting. The participants of this Annual meeting will have an opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues, to meet faces to go with the names known from the literature, to hear the latest research reports, to plan exchanges and collaborations and to advance knowledge and research in a domain of dental public health. Along with scientific experience you will enjoy also a challenging atmosphere of the city of Rome, its amazing sights, pulsating presence and hopefully sunny days. Zdenek Broukal EADPH President

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Rome and to the 16th annual conference of the EADPH. It is the second time that the Association has held its annual conference in Italy. This is fitting as the Italian Association for Dental Public Health is growing and its members are enthusiastic supporters of EADPH. The lure of a conference in Rome, the eternal city, in late September, with its golden days has drawn many more delegates to the annual conference than in recent years. It is therefore unsurprising that the number of abstracts is far higher than for some years. Professor Livia Ottolenghi and her team have worked very hard to produce a very interesting scientific and social programme, which I hope you will all enjoy in a wonderful city with a fascinating and very long history. For those of you, who like me, are first time visitors to Rome the prospect is very exciting. I wish you all a productive and memorable conference. Kenneth A. Eaton EADPH President-Elect
