SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2015 We had a phenomenal response to Evita performed during the Easter holidays.

Phoenix Dance Workshop continues to give a wonderful insight into the world of Contemporary Dance

One of our highlights of the term was taking part in Flash Mob at Malton Food Festival – 55 young people had a brilliant time ‘Dancing in the Street’ We also held a Kindness day – thanks to our Seniors for their Kindness station.

The Northern Stage Dance Festival took place over the Whit half term with many awards won. Particular congratulations to Beth Armstrong for winning the 16 years and over classical trophy, highest mark Ballet, highest mark National dance and to Sophie Roger and Beth for winning the trophy for the most outstanding Duet of the whole Festival

Miss Catherine has been extremely busy preparing pupils for our London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) examinations and our Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examinations on 1st July. We have all been busy preparing children for their International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) Tap, Theatre Craft, Ballet examinations on 8th July, particularly Miss Kyla for the Adult Tappers!!

Rosie, Charlotte, Hannah and Emily all gained Silver Arts Award

Miss Angela went to watch former pupil Laurie Scarth performing in Cats at the London Palladium in the part of Jennyanydots with Nicole Scherzinger.

Thanks to Miss Barbara we raised over £900 for RYT funds at her Open Garden Party. Cold but fun.

A group of teachers spent a lovely evening at Miss Sarah Fergusons 40th birthday.

Miss Angela and Miss Kyla have started a Dance for Parkinsons class at York. Anyone interested in this Parkinsons disease programme please get in touch.

Hannah Richardson, our very own ‘Eva Peron’ has entered a singing competition run by Castle Howard. Please go on their Facebook page and find Hannah singing ‘Let me be your star’ and ‘like’ and ‘share’ The top 5 singers with the most votes get to be judged by a top panel and go forward to sing at one of the summer concerts held at Castle Howard

43 pupils and families took part in Race for Life York. So far we have raised £1500 for Cancer Research

FORMER PUPILS Watch for Kara Cole who is the new face of Hula Hoops crisps in a new TV commercial. Kara has been busy as a commercial dancer travelling the globe. Danielle Brown has gained a contract in ‘Chicago the Musical’ playing Katalin Hunyak at Theater des Westens Berlin Scott Garnham will be playing the lead role in Grand Hotel the Musical at Southwark Playhouse 5th August to 5th September Lauren Hood has started rehearsal for ‘Mrs Henderson Presents’, the brand new musical based on the film starring Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins, will have its world premiere prior to the West End as part of Theatre Royal Baths Summer season 2015 Well Done All

Madelaine Cartwright (Miss Maddy) is currently Musical Director for In Fog and Falling Snow, a co-production between the Theatre Royal, Pilot Theatre and the National Railway Museum 26th June to 11th July

We have a full Summer Programme with th th Theatre Tots Summer School - 5 & 6 August th th Junior Summer School – 10 – 12 August th th Ballet/Contemporary Workshop 17 & 18 August th th Fosse Workshop 26 & 27 August There are still places available – please see Notice Board/Posters

We finish off the term with our Showcase – ‘End of Term’ demonstration of all classwork including excerpts from th Coppelia and Evita. Due to our Showcase there will be NO classes on Saturday 18 July th
