CAMP EXPERIENCES FOR 3-11 YEAR OLDS Summer just wouldn’t be the same without the excitement and adventure of a Kirk YMCA Camp. Each themed week is designed for children ages 3-11 years and includes swim lessons, music, water fun, inflatables, Y-Arcade, games, arts & crafts and more!

CAMP KIRK PRE-SCHOOL CAMPS—AGES 3-4 YEARS JUNE 8-12 A CAMPIN’ WE WILL GO Where’s that flashlight? Where should we pitch the tent? Hey! What’s that sound I hear? If you enjoy the great outdoors, this camp is for you. We will eat smores, make some trail mix, dye some t-shirts, tell stories around the “pretend” campfire and discover nature on our nearby hikes. Wear your pajamas on Friday and we will camp out under the stars.

JUNE 15-19 DINO STOMP Rumble, Rumble, Stomp, Stomp! Let’s enjoy the week singing songs and hearing stories about our friends from long, long, ago. We’ll make fossil cookies then go on a dig in hopes of finding some dinosaur teeth, footprints, bones and maybe even some dinosaur eggs. JUNE 22-26 FUN IN THE SUN Put on your lei and grass skirt…we’re going to kick off the summer with a beach party! We will learn some island dances, make tropical snacks, play beach bingo, make sand castles and have fun with hula hoop and limbo contests. JUNE 29-JULY 3 PATRIOTIC PARTY POP! BOOM! POW! With fireworks, watermelon, sack races and face painting, we will celebrate Independence Day in red, white and blue style. We will go on a scavenger hunt and have an all-camp outdoor BBQ on Friday. JULY 6-10 ONCE UPON A TIME Story time comes to life as we visit the Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks, and more. We will read about faraway lands and fairy tales. Dress up and pretend will be a daily activity in this camp. We will build our very own castle. JULY 13-17 AHOY MATEYS It’s a pirates life for me – ARGHH!! Put your eye patch on and get ready for an adventure on the high seas. Sing sea chanteys, explore sea creatures, and go on a treasure hunt. We will construct and design our own pirate ship. JULY 20-24 WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE Go on a safari with us and experience life in our jungle. See all the beautiful flowers and plants in the rainforest and create some jungle snacks. We might even have a visit from one of our jungle animal friends. JULY 27-31 OOEY GOOEY “Eww, gross, sick, ahhh, wow!” These are some of the sounds we will hear coming out of your mouth for Ooey Gooey week. You will encounter strange liquids, sticky stuff and make your own gak and playdough. It’s going to get mind blowing and messy!

SUMMER CAMP TIMES & FEES Mon-Fri ages 3 & 4 year olds, K – 5th graders 8:00am-6:00pm M:$100 / NM:$125 9:00am-2:00pm M:$90 / NM:$113 MEALS Children should bring a packed lunch each day. AUG 3-7 UNDER THE SEA Dive into the water and discover what is lurking beneath the waves! Learn about turtles and fish, while having a WHALE of a good time! We will be splishin’ and splashin’ in sprinklers, having water sponge relay races, and playing lots of games including “Fish Fish Shark.” AUG 10-14 BARNYARD BONANZA You won’t sleep under that haystack on our farm! What sounds do all the farm animals make? We will learn what animals eat and even try some of their food. We will go on “hayrides” around the Y, play horseshoes and do some square-dancing too.

SUMMER CAMP INFO: • All campers must be potty trained. • Due to high demand and limited space, we cannot issue refunds. • Registration deadline is the Thursday before chosen camp (Spots fill up quickly, don’t wait until the last day.) • Children may be picked up early (quiet/rest time is between 1:00-3:00pm) • See our Kirk Y Summer Parent Handbook and Enrollment Packet for additional camp information.

JUNE 22-26 I SPY Enjoy solving mysteries? Conduct some cool experiments, use your “private eye” and keep your ears open for clues to solve the case. Join our secret team of detectives, create your own secret agent name and participate in games and challenges that will test your sleuthing skills. Dress in black on Friday for a special agent assignment. JUNE 29-JULY 3 PATRIOTIC PARTY POP! BOOM! POW! With fireworks, watermelon, sack races and face painting, we will celebrate Independence Day in red, white and blue style. We will go on a scavenger hunt and have an all-camp outdoor BBQ on Friday. JULY 6-10 Y OLYMPICS Get ready to show your stuff through games, challenges and teambuilding activities. Our staff will engage children, building their self-confidence and athletic skills while focusing on a positive attitude and strong effort. Have fun with our Olympic Ring Scavenger Hunt. JULY 20-24 MAD SCIENTIST Do you enjoy creating crazy concoctions? Build your brain power, explore chemistry and enjoy fun science exploration. Hang out in our wacky lab and create some slimy, slippery and bubbly experiments. Design your very own lab coat! JULY 27-31 Y’s GOT TALENT Do you have a flair for the dramatic? Are your eyes set on the stage? Places, please…we are rolling out the red carpet for our STARS. Acting games, theatrical exercises, skits, singing and dancing are all in store for this performance camp. AUG 3-7 CRUISE SHIP Every camper will have a passport to set sail on the Y Cruise ship. Start our trip with a Bon Voyage party as we head out to several ports in the Bahamas, Alaska, Hawaii and New York City. From fruity umbrella drinks to towel animals, our days will be filled with cruise ship activities such as karaoke, bingo, jewelry making and shopping. Pull out your crazy flower shirt and wacky hat and wear it to camp on Friday. AUG 10-14 GREEN THUMB Roll up your sleeves, we will be digging in the dirt to find out how our garden grows. Discover plants, flowers and WORMS on our nature walk. Make mud playdough and veggie monsters and have a wheel-barrow race. With seeds, sun and soil, you’ll become an expert gardener in just a few days.

TWEEN CAMPS—3RD-5TH GRADE JUNE 8-12 XTREME RECESS We are going “old school” for some NEW fun! Play classic P.E. games like kick ball, dodge ball, four square, red rover, elbow tag and steal the bacon. Individual and team activities will challenge your brain and body.

JULY 13-17 SPLASHTACULAR Water, water everywhere, and we’re gonna get wet! During this week, we will have water play outside with sprinklers, water balloons, sponge relays and more!

JULY 20-24 Y SURVIVOR Survivor training never looked so fun! This camp is modeled after the popular television reality show – with one missing element: NO ONE GETS VOTED OFF our island! The camp will feature daily mental, physical and team challenges. The top tribe will receive a reward at the end of each day.

JUNE 22-26 LIVEWIRE Hello modder, hello java, here I blog from my own flash animated website. Use computer and computer-related technology to create unique projects. JULY 13-16 TINY EINSTEIN Kids are born experimenters, and in this camp, we’ll discover the fun behind the science by playing, tinkering and exploring. JULY 27-30 CHARACTER CRAZE We will have some of our favorite movie characters bring fun and games to this week of camp. Movies like Frozen, Monsters Inc and Toy Story are sure to dazzle.

JULY 6-9 OCEAN COMMOTION Water, water everywhere! We’ll pour it, spray it, drink it, freeze it and PLAY IN IT!! Join us for a wet and wild week for fun, craft, experiments and play. Water balloons, water guns and a large inflatable waterslide are a must for this fun week.

AUG 10-12 GET MOVIN’ CLINIC 9:00am-2:00pm Hiking a new trail every day is the plan for these three days of camp. Trails will be announced a few days before. AUG 17-19 KIDS IN THE KITCHEN CLINIC 9:00am-12:00pm Add 2 cups fun with 1 cup of laughter. Mix in a handful of friends and you get a 3-day clinic that explores essential cooking skills and inspires creativities and collaboration through mouthwatering masterpieces. FULL-DAY CAMP EXPERIENCES FOR 5-12 YEAR OLDS Each Magic Place camp theme week is loaded with tons of arts and crafts, projects, games, music, dance, drama, sports and active play that appeal to all abilities and interests. Camp wouldn’t be complete without swimming; that’s why we offer swimming each week, along with free swim lessons throughout July to all Magic Place campers. Magic Place campers will embark on weekly field trips, biweekly trips to the Skate Center and receive a visit from the ice cream truck every other Friday!

This week of camp, kids will have field days with exciting activities like tug-of-war, soccer, pickle-ball, three legged races and much more! Wear your favorite sport team shirt on Friday! JUNE 8-12 MAD SCIENTISTS Calling future Einsteins! This week Y campers will be busy in the lab building brain power and discovering the next big invention. Campers will have the opportunity to create their very own lab coat and hang out in our wacky lab to create some slimy, slippery and bubble experiments. JUNE 15-19 WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE Kids will love exploring the wild realm of animals this week. Campers will have a unique, hands-on experience enhanced by projects and activities as well as captivating, real-life animal encounters!

JUNE 22-26 DR. SEUSS ON THE LOOSE Horton hears a what? The cat is wearing a hat? “Oh, the places we’ll go” and the things that we’ll do! Campers will read, write, create and bring to life stories in the spirit of Dr. Seuss. Get ready for some wild and wacky fun! JUNE 29-JULY 3 PARTY IN THE USA Shoot for the stars and stripes as we celebrate our nation’s history and hometown heroes. Patriotic songs, games and activities are designed to set off the fireworks for a colorful and exciting adventure. JULY 6-10 WIPE OUT Surf’s up, campers! Come and join our wave that will cause one bodacious splash! With a week full of awesome aquatic activities and radical games, there is no way you will escape dry! AUG 3-7 CFF – CAMP FRIENDS FOREVER It’s time to wrap up the summer with all your friends! We’ll celebrate each day with all of our favorite camp songs, games and crafts. The registration fee of $125 includes all supplies, expenses and fees. Campers will get a free T-Shirt if registered by April 24, 2015

Through the generosity of the United Way of Roanoke Valley, Sam and Marion Golden Helping Hands Foundation, Walmart Year Round Food Program, Junior League of Roanoke Valley, and other organizations and individuals, the YMCA can offer assistance to anyone in need. We make a point to see that anyone can attend the program regardless of ability to pay full price. For more information, call 342-2332.

Shhh, don’t tell the kids that these activities also encourage patience, sportsmanship, self-confidence and coordination too. We believe every child deserves to experience summer camp. The YMCA provides financial assistance for families in need. No one is turned away because of their inability to pay the full rate. Ask for a financial assistance application when you register.
