Workshop presentation and call for papers Innovating Management&Accounting practices is one of the key issues facing current organizations as they try to endure and create value in today’s business environment. The last ten years have witnessed a massive transformation in the economic, social and legal environment in which organizations operate. The recent financial crisis and unprecedented corporate scandals, the globalization of the markets and increasing competition, the ongoing change of national and international regulations together with the opportunities offered by advances in information and communication technologies have forced contemporary organizations to reconsider and re-define their strategies, business models and management systems. Significantly, these challenges have cast a harsh light on many of the traditional management and accounting practices which have been relied upon for decades; questioning whether they have become outdated and in need of innovation, as well as the ability of new tools to help organizations execute their strategies and deliver desired results in such turbulent times. As uncertainty in the internal context and external environment increases, organizations are under tremendous pressure to effectively implement and manage mechanisms of governance capable of going beyond issues of mere compliance and incorporating strategy setting, operational execution, risk and knowledge management into an integrated framework. Within such a framework, innovative Management and Accounting practices are required to measure, control,

and manage what really matters for the organizational stakeholders by challenging, if necessary, the traditional ways of thinking about performance measurement. Among the others, the challenges for Management and Accounting practices include issues such as: linking strategy to operational execution; identifying the right measures to capture organizational “success”; interpreting the connection between performance measurement and value creation; linking risk management, strategy and performance measurement within an integrated governance framework; reporting organizational achievements for multiple and heterogeneous stakeholders; measuring social and sustainable performances; supporting strategic innovation through performance measurement systems; exploring the changing role of management accountants and the finance function. The workshop Innovating Management&Accounting practices intends to build on the rich international and interdisciplinary debate on Management and Accounting change to offer a venue where both theoretical and practical contributions are welcome. The workshop will be organized with parallel sessions (on the afternoon of December 1st) and a plenary session (on the morning of December 2nd). The plenary session will host, among the others, the keynote speeches of Robert S. Kaplan, Harvard Business School, and Robert W. Scapens, Manchester Business School.

The Scientific Committee encourages the submission of extended abstracts or full papers to be presented on December 1st. Doctoral students and young researchers are encouraged to apply.
