Reminders for the 2015-16 School Year Dress Code

Students should be appropriately dressed for school and for participating in learning activities. For our young women: we expect them to wear clothing on their tops that covers cleavage, shoulders and stomachs. Bottoms should be a minimum of 4-inches below the buttocks area with a rise that covers the stomach area. For our young men: pants should be pulled up and belted at the waist. Underwear should not be showing. Tank top style undershirts are prohibited. Gang attire and attire that promotes alcohol or other drug use is not allowed. Students must wear shoes at all times.

Student Drop Off/Pick Up Guidelines & Expectations

In an effort to alleviate drop-off and pick-up congestion, we have organized our guidelines and expectations for student drop-off and pick-up. As you review the map (next page) and the new drop-off and pick-up locations, please be reminded of the following norms: 1. To avoid congestion, please drop off your student early. The busiest times are between 7:15-7:30. 2. Frequently remind your student(s) to use designated crosswalks 3. Be mindful of cyclists 4. Be courteous drivers. Drive slow, allow people to merge into traffic and remind your student drivers to do the same. 5. Pull over to the curb for student drop-off

AUGUST 2015

Reminders for the 2015-16 School Year continued... Absence Reporting If a student is not able to attend school for the entire school day or part of the school day, the school must be notified by phone at 970-488-7002. Notes from parents/guardians will not be accepted. For excused absences, as defined by the Poudre School District, parents are required to call the attendance office on the day of the absence. The deadline to excuse an absence in within 5 days of the absence. Excused absences will be granted for illness of the student or illness in the family, death in the family, court appearances, appointments that can not be scheduled outside of the school day, and for other emergencies on an individual basis. If parents decide that they must take their student out of school for a reason that would not normally be excused, the student should make arrangements with the attendance office and work out a pre-arranged absence agreement, which must be pre-approved by an administrator.

Tardies

Students are expected to be in class, on time. A student is tardy who enters the classroom, without a proper excuse, after the final bell has rung.

Intervention Action Related to Attendance

In order for a student to have a meaningful experience in a class, he/she must be there to be an active participant. The school/teacher has the responsibility of informing the parent/guardian by phone or by letter when their student is not attending a class or classes. Appropriate action will be taken to ensure that the student does attend the classes for which he/she is registered. In cases of non-attendance, the student will be counseled, parent conferences may be required, teachers will be involved and, in extreme cases, the student may be dropped from the class with a failing grade for lack of attendance. Student may not loiter in the parking lots or the halls during the school day. Students will be asked to leave campus and will be marked absent if they refuse to go to class. Student Opportunities DECA & FBLA DECA and FBLA will be holding an informational meeting for students during lunch on Wednesday, September 2nd. These two national organizations focus on teaching leadership and business/marketing skills through competitive events, community service, and conferences that offer workshops with outstanding keynote speakers and networking opportunities. High school students may attend local and state leadership conferences in Fort Collins, Greeley, and Colorado Springs. Nationals this year will be held in Nashville, TN and Atlanta, GA.

At Rocky we feel both of these organizations offer outstanding leadership opportunities for students interested in business and therefore run it as one organization. For more information and a list of competitive events, go to DECA.org and FBLA.org or contact one of our advisors: Mrs. Lyell, Mr. Papp, or Ms Brown.

Student Services Get to Know Your Counselor One of your most important resources in the college search is your school counselor. Many school counselors specialize in helping students find a college or career. Their knowledge can point you in the right direction in the college process. If you don't know your counselor very well, now is the time to make an appointment. Your counselor can help you the most if you take the time to talk to him or her about your goals, personality, and academic record. If you already have a list of what you want in a school or a list of possible colleges, bring it. The more information you provide, the more your counselor can aid in your college search. And don't be shy about asking questions. Counselors are there to answer students' questions and even enjoy doing it. Stay in contact with your counselor throughout your college search. Your counselor can help you to clarify your goals, see whether your grades and courses are good enough for the colleges you're considering, and develop a plan for the rest of the admission process. Parents and students, don’t forget that you can see who your counselor is in StudentVUE. (It looks like your 5th class.)
