ADMISSIONS CRITERIA In keeping with the philosophy that the capabilities of each individual should be developed, Wallace Community College Selma operates under an “open door” admissions policy. This policy grants admission to entering freshmen, transfer students, transient students, audit students, accelerated high school students, dual enrolled students and international students as well as any student seeking readmission. However, certain programs have specific entry requirements. These program requirements are listed in the Academic and Technical Programs of Study. Act No. 91-584 passed by the Alabama State Legislature requires that all males between the ages of 18 and 26 register with the Selective Service prior to enrolling in any state institution of higher education. Note: Any and all elements of the College’s admission requirements are subject to change without prior notice. ADMISSION OF FIRST TIME COLLEGE STUDENTS Applicants who have not previously attended any regionally accredited postsecondary institution will be considered first-time college students or “native” students. As early as possible prior to the semester in which they plan to enroll, applicants must complete the Application for Admission which may be obtained upon request from the Office of Student Services, Wallace Community College Selma, P.O. Box 2530, Selma, AL 36702-2530 or Wallace Community College Selma. ADMISSION TO COURSES CREDITABLE TOWARD AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE To be eligible for admission to courses creditable toward an associate degree, a first-time college student is subject to one of the following criteria: 1. Applicants who hold a diploma issued by a regionally and/ or state accredited high school, and schools accredited by the Alabama Independent School Association are eligible for admission (applicants who hold a certificate or any other award issued in lieu of a diploma are ineligible for admission.) 2. Applicants who have attended a non-accredited high school may be admitted upon presentation of a diploma (evidenced by an official transcript) indicating successful completion of course of study on the secondary level and a minimum ACT composite score of 16, or the equivalent score on the SAT, or have passed the Alabama Public High School Graduation Exam. 3. Applicants who hold the Alabama Occupational Diploma, the high school diploma of another state equivalent to the Alabama Occupational Diploma, or an equivalent diploma issued by a non-public high school. Applicants must also have a minimum ACT score of 16 or the equivalent score on the SAT. 4. Applicants who cannot comply with any of the above conditions may submit a Certificate of High School Equivalency GED Certificate issued by Alabama or other state departments of education. ADMISSION TO COURSES NOT CREDITABLE TOWARD AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE Wallace Community College Selma, as mandated by the Alabama State Board of Education, has an open door policy. The College admits students without a high school diploma or a GED Certificate into certain programs and courses not creditable toward an associate degree when the student demonstrates an ability-to-benefit prior to enrollment. Students admitted under these provisions will be classified as “Non-Degree-Eligible” students. Under the ability-to-benefit provisions, applicants to courses not creditable toward an associate degree and programs comprised exclusively of courses not creditable to an associate degree must be at least 16 years of age and have not been enrolled in secondary education for at least one calendar year or upon the recommendation of the local superintendent. ABILITY-TO-BENEFIT COURSES: Cosmetology, Masonry, Nursing Assistant and Welding. ALABAMA ARTICULATION PROGRAM (STARS) The Alabama Articulation Program (also called STARS-State-wide Articulation Reporting System) is a computerized articulation and transfer planning system designed to inform students who attend Alabama’s public community colleges about degree requirements, course equivalents, and other transfer information pertaining to specific majors at each state funded four year institution. STARS is an efficient and effective way of providing students, counselors, and educators with accurate information upon which transfer decisions can be made. STARS is the information link between the state’s public two-year and four year institutions. The STARS database, if used properly, can prevent the loss of course work and can ease 6

the transition from one institution to another. Students who are interested in receiving a STARS “Transfer Guide & Contract” should contact: Office of Student Services (334) 876-9295. ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING Generic Option: Minimum admission standards include: 1. Unconditional admission to the college. 2. Receipt of completed application for the Associate Degree Nursing Program by June 1st of the admission year. 3. A minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA for the last 24 credit hours of previous college work. 4. A minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA for students without prior college work (GED acceptable in lieu of high school transcript). Eligibility for: 6. English 101 (English Composition I) and Math 100 (Intermediate College Algebra) as determined by College policy. 7. Biology 201 (Anatomy & Physiology I) - Completion of BIO 103 (General Biology) is preferred prior to enrollment in BIO 201. 8. Being in good standing with the college (2.0 or higher cumulative GPA from WCCS). 9. Meeting the essential functions or technical standards required for nursing. Taking the Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test by the application deadline date. **It is highly recommended that you complete your academic courses, especially your science courses (BIO 201, BIO 202, & BIO 220), prior to enrollment in nursing. Points are awarded for the science courses based on your course grade, which will enhance your chances of being admitted to the A.D.N. program.** Mobility Option: Minimum admission standards include: 1. Unconditional admission to the college. 2. Receipt of completed application for the Associate Degree Nursing Program by December 1st of the year prior to enrollment. 3. A minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA for the last 24 credit hours of previous college work. Unofficial transcript(s) from all college(s) and technical school(s) attended must be enclosed in the Application Packet. Official transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Student Services. 4. A valid, unencumbered Alabama LPN License. 5. Meeting the essential functions or technical standards required for nursing. 6. Being in good standing with the college (2.0 or higher cumulative GPA from WCCS). 7. Taking the Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test by the application deadline date. 8. Completing the required pre-requisite academic courses prior to the fall semester of the year prior to enrollment (one academic course may be taken spring semester of admission if space is available in the upcoming class). 9. Completing NUR 200 (Nursing Career Mobility Assessment) spring semester of the admission year. (This course is not required if you graduated from the Approved Alabama college System practical nursing curriculum with the previous two years of the admission deadline date. ** THERE ARE TWO OPTIONS AVAILABLE FOR THE LPN TO RN MOBILITY PROGRAM: 1. Traditional mobility option: Typically have classes and clinical experiences through the week during the day (7:00am-3:00pm) 2. Hybrid on-line mobility option: Class lectures and assignments are downloaded at the student’s convenience. Tests are taken with the traditional students on designated dates (approximately 7-8 tests). Clinical rotations are scheduled evenings and/or weekends. Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program is competitive, and the number of students is limited by the number of faculty and clinical facilities available. Meeting minimal requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Applications for the generic and mobility nursing programs are issued by the Office of Student Services. Wallace Community College Selma Email: All registered students at Wallace Community College Selma, will have an assigned Hotmail email address. This address will be used to communicate with your instructors, receive alerts, and receive notifications concerning WCCS registrations and events. Your account name or email address prefix will be composed of your last name and your six-digit student id number and is to the left of “@student.wccs.edu”. If you do not know your student number, then you can go to the WCCS Homepage (wccs.edu) and obtain you student number by clicking on the “Get Your Student ID #” link which can be found above the menu options. Your initial password will be your social security number. After you login, please change your password. If you have trouble accessing your account, then you can call the WCCS Email Hotline at 334- 876-9331. To access the campus email system for the first time, open your Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and type http://hotmail.com/ into the address line. In the field to the right of the words “Windows Live ID”, enter your student email address. In the password field below, enter your social security number. Then click on the “Sign In” button. Hotmail will require you to complete the registration process by changing your password, creating a question/answer combination to assist you with a lost or forgotten password. The initial registration is a ONE TIME only event and subsequent logins will take you directly to your mail box. Your account will automatically be created, but will not be activated until the day after you register. Please wait 24 hours after clearing your registration fees to log in to your email account. Your Wallace Community College Selma email address can be used for personal email, however your WCCS email address MUST BE used for all official class correspondence with your instructor. This applies to traditional classes as well as E-Learning based instruction.

FINANCIAL AID: To determine whether a student is eligible to receive financial aid, he/she must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Information provided on the FAFSA determines the specific type of aid that may be received. The FAFSA must be completed annually. FAFSAs are available at the Financial Aid Office, Student Services or by applying over the internet at: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov instead of using the paper form. Receiving your aid: If you mail your application or apply over the internet, you must request a federal processor to send the results of your FAFSA to WCCS (simply fill out Step six of the FAFSA that asks for the federal school code of schools you may request to receive your SAR). WCCS Federal School Code is: 009980 1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). • Assistance in filling out the application will be provided if needed. • The PRIORITY filing date is June 2, 2015 for maximum consideration, but all applications will be considered. 2. File your FAFSA using any of the following methods: A. Mail the FAFSA to the Federal Processor in the envelope provided. B. Electronically through FAFSA on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. C. Electronically through the WCCS Financial Aid Office. In order to receive notification in a timely manner, all information must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office by June 2, 2015. Applications will be processed after June 2, 2015; however, your award may not be completed in time to receive aid for Spring 1st session. 3. In three to six weeks, you will receive your Student Aid Report (SAR). 8

4. Timely submit any other requested information such as tax returns, W-2’s, and verification worksheets. Your file must be completed before an award estimate can be sent to you. FINANCIAL AID 15 WCCS 5. All students applying for Pell Grant will be required to: • Submit all forms/documents requested by the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible. (This is especially important if your FAFSA was selected for verification.) • Visit your website http://wccs.edu/. • Log in to MY WALLACE SELMA using the new ID # that was emailed by the Financial Aid Office. (If you did not receive that information by email you may use your SSN and six digit date of birth ex: 010101 to receive information regarding application status.) 6. After all required documentation is received and your file is complete, an award letter will be generated and sent to you. The award will detail the maximum amounts of federal, state, and institutional aid for which you are eligible at WCCS. All awards are based on attendance at WCCS and are NOT transferable. **STUDENTS MUST BE PRESENT THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS FOR ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION FOR FINANCIAL AID.

Tuition Refund Policy Refund for complete withdrawal: Students who officially withdraw from all classes before the first day of class will be refunded the total tuition and institutional charges. Students who officially withdraw from all classes on or after the first day of class, but prior to the end of the third week of class will be refunded according to the withdrawal policies.

Complete withdrawal prior to Oct 16, 2015 50% Complete withdrawal prior to Oct 19, 2015 25% Students enrolled in the 2ND MINI SESSION and withdrawing from class on or after Oct 19, 2015 will not receive a refund.

Return of Title IV Financial Assistance: Federal Grant recipients who completely withdraw from the College prior to completing sixty-one percent (61%) of the enrollment period will owe a repayment to the U.S. Department of Education.

Mini-term and weekend classes: For mini-term day classes, two class days are considered equivalent to one week. For mini-term night classes, one class meeting is considered equivalent to one week.

Definitions: The withdrawal date is the date that the student submits a completed withdrawal form (withdrawing from all classes) or the last day of attendance reported by the instructor to Student Services.

Refund for partial withdrawal: Students who do not completely withdraw from the college but drop a class during the regular drop/add period will be refunded the difference in tuition paid and the tuition rate applicable to the reduced number of hours, including fees appropriate to the classes dropped. Refund for partial withdrawal will be processed after the drop/add period. There is no refund owed to a student who partially withdraws after the official drop/add period.

Sixty-one percent (61%) of enrollment period: For full term Fall 2015 classes, the 61% point is October 22, 2015; for the first mini session September 18, 2015 and for second mini session November 13, 2015. Students who withdraw or are reported as not attending on or before this date will owe a repayment. Students who withdraw after this date will not owe a repayment.

Refund for online course: A refund request for an online course will be calculated the same as any other course. Technology and facility renewal fees: A technology fee of $9.00 and a facility renewal fee of $9.00 will be assessed for each credit hour, as listed in the fee schedule. FULL SESSION/ EVENING SESSION FALL 2015 Complete/partial withdrawal prior to Aug 17, 2015 100% Complete withdrawal prior to Aug 24, 2015 75% Complete withdrawal prior to Aug 31, 2015 50% Complete withdrawal prior to Sept 8, 2015 25% Students enrolled in the FULL SESSION/EVENING SESSION and withdrawing from class on or after Sept 8, 2015 will not receive a refund.

Pell grant disbursement is 14 days after the first day of classes. PAYING YOUR TUITION AND FEES If you are satisfied with your schedule, you are required to clear your tuition and fees. Note: Wallace Community College Selma does not accept partial payments. Your tuition and fees must be paid in full or your schedule will be automatically deleted from the system; therefore, you will not be allowed to attend class. Student financial information can be accessed through Google Chrome at www.wccs.edu ; click on My Wallace Selma and log in to your student account. Your user ID is your student number that is assigned upon registration. Your PIN is your birthday in a six-digit format (mm/dd/yy).

PELL If you are clearing tuition and fees with PELL funds, your fees will clear automatically before the first day of class. Log into your “My Wallace Selma” on the WCCS home page to make sure your award amount is enough to cover your tuition and fees. Any outstanding balance must be paid in full before the first day of class. All Checks, credit, and debit cards must be processed through your My Wallace Selma accounts.

CHECK OR DEBIT If you are clearing fees with using the electronic check process or debit card, you must log in to your “My Wallace Selma” on the WCCS home page Click on the following: 1. Student 2. Student Records 3. Account Detail by term 4. Choose term, then click submit (make a note of amount due; you will need to enter later) 5. Pay now 7. Enter amount 8. Choose credit, debit card payment or check. 9. Print a receipt for your records CASH If you are clearing tuition and fees with cash, go to the Cashier’s Office, 1st Floor, New Student Center, Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. – 12 noon. NOTE: Failure to pay your tuition in full or before the first day of class may result in deletion of your schedule and removal from class.

TUITION FOR NON-RESIDENTS OF ALABAMA Any applicant for admission who does not meet the residency requirements will be charged tuition at 2.0 times the in-state tuition rate (Alabama Community College System 803.01). The person so described must have enrolled in the school prior to the expiration of the three year period following discharge or death described above and must be using educational benefits under either chapter 30 or chapter 33, of title 38, United States Code.

Register Online down menu under Action for the course you want to drop, and then select Drop. (Please be aware of drop/add deadlines and refund dates as outlined on the inside front cover and p. 7 of this schedule). Continue until your course schedule is complete. To view your schedule, go back to the Registration menu and select My Class Schedule.

1. GETTING STARTED: If you are a newly admitted or returning student you may have received a student number in your e-mail. You may also use your social security number as a temporary student ID and six-digit birthdate as a temporary PIN. You must not be on academic probation or have any outstanding fees or holds to register.

5. COMPLETE REGISTRATION: Once your schedule is complete, return to the Student tab, click on My Tuition and Fees, and then Check Current Balance Here. There you will see a screen that displays tuition charges for the schedule you have chosen. Available financial aid coverage may also be viewed. To complete the entire registration process, you must pay the amount due by the dates published by WCCS.

2. GO ONLINE: Visit www.wccs.edu and click on the MyWallaceSelma link to access your student information. Click on Selma Records (Secure Area) to log in. 3. LOGIN SCREEN: Enter your student number (this is your social security number without the dashes) or your WCCS assigned student number. Enter your PIN number (the default PIN is your six-digit birthdate). You will be prompted to change your PIN for privacy and security.

6. PAYMENT: When you access My Tuition and Fees and then Check Current Balance Here, you will be provided options to pay your balance by electronic check,or by credit card with Discover, American Express, Visa or Mastercard. You may also pay in person during regular business hours at the WCCS Cashier’s Office by check, cash or money order.

4. SELECT THE STUDENT TAB, THEN CLICK ON REGISTRATION: Select the term for which you would like to register, then select Register/Add/Drop Classes. Here you may enter the course numbers from the published class schedule, or select Class Search to search online for classes meeting your desired criteria. Select the class subject (add time/day constraints under the Advanced Search option). You will be shown a list of courses meeting your selected criteria. Select the classes you want to take by clicking in the corresponding box under the Select column. Click Register to the add the course. To Drop a course, go to the Add or Drop Classes section and select the drop-

Placement Test Information Fall Semester 2015 (Times and dates are subject to change without prior notice) Placement Testing Exemptions Students may receive full or partial placement testing exemptions if they comply with the following criteria: (Official documentation must be provided for verification of exemptions.)

Transient student approval. Students who are enrolled at other colleges or universities are given permission by their parent institution to take a specific course or courses on a transient approval letter.

Placement Testing Hours Placement testing for the Fall Semester 2015 is from June 2015 through August 2015. In order to take the Compass Placement Test an application and any other pertinent paperwork must be on file. Compass Placement Testing is by appointment only. Call Ms. Shelia Jefferson at 334-876-9295 to schedule the Compass Placement Test. You MUST present a picture ID the day you test and a Clear to Test card. If you cannot use a computer please let Ms. Jefferson know in advance. Compass Placement Testing will not be administered to any one student more than twice. After the second testing there will be a $8.00 retesting fee for the Compass Test. A paid receipt for the $8.00 must be brought to the Office of Admissions and test scheduled.

Ability to Benefit Test /Compass Test) (Test for non-graduates of high school) The Ability to Benefit Test/Compass Test is given by appointment only. This test is for non-graduates and does not guarantee admittance to the college. Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) Bookstore PURCHASE To purchase books with any financial aid; including, but not limited to: Pell Grant, WIA, VA, and scholarships1, you must: 1. Purchase on specified dates; usually no earlier than five (5) business days before the first day of class. (Dates will be sent via student email and posted onto either wccs.bncollege.com or facebook.com/wccsbookstore.) 2. Present a valid student ID. 3. Have your current course schedule. 4. Have a valid debit or credit card to secure all textbook rental transactions. 1

Scholarship students may purchase books only after they have visited the library and have received an authorization form. Scholarship students must return all books at the end of each semester to the library. No Buyback will be done on books purchased with scholarships.

REFUND To return textbooks for full refund to original form of payment, you must: ANY REASON (By end of first week of class; usually Friday after first day of class2) 1. Present original bookstore receipt. (No refunds or exchanges will be given without receipt.) 2. Present valid student ID, if purchased with financial aid. 3. Return book in original condition. BUYBACK3 / RENTAL CHECK-IN WCCS Bookstore buys back books at the end of the fall and spring semesters during the weeks before and of full session finals. Summer Buybacks are held during full session finals week only, as per the needs of the store and notification will be given to students via email in the event of one. Books are bought back at up to 50% of the book’s retail price if they do not meet the following, but not limited, stipulations of having a pending new edition, missing original components, being a loose-leaf text, overstocked, damaged beyond normal wear and usage, etc. WCCS Bookstore does issue cash for books purchased; however, a valid student ID must be presented. All rental textbooks are to be checked-in by last day of full session finals. You may turn them in before the deadline. All rentals that are not turned in by deadline are subject to rental fees. 3

It is highly recommended that students who are taking E-Learning courses have a computer and internet access in their homes. The lack of internet access and/or the presence of technical difficulties does not constitute an excuse for submission of late class assignments. Your account will automatically be created, but you will not be able to activate your WCCS student e-mail account until your tuition has been paid. Please wait approximately 1 hour after tuition payment to log in to your e-mail account. You will not be able to activate your WCCS student e-mail account until your tuition has been paid. To obtain your WCCS student e-mail address: • Access the WCCS website at www.wccs.edu and click on Find your Student E-mail Address under the Important Links section. • Type in your Social Security Number and click Get Student Id. Your Banner ID as well as your student e-mail address will appear in the highlighted area. To access the campus e-mail system: • Access the WCCS homepage and click on Students, Student E-mail, and then Sign In to Student E-mail at the bottom of the page. • Enter your full e-mail address in the "Username” field. • Enter your social security number in the “Password” field and click the "Sign In" button. You will complete the activation process by entering a string of CAPTCHA text and agreeing to their terms of service.
