he month of February was busy beginning with Catholic Schools Week, Open house, the start of Lent (A sh W ednesday service in the photo above) and many sporting end of season tournaments that took place for basketball, gymnastics and wrestling. Students have trained hard all year and have been rewarded for their efforts. Congratulations to all our athletes on their successes. VANCOUVER AQUARIUM

WORK EXPERIENCE—SPRING RECRUITMENT The Vancouver Aquarium is now recruiting students for April-June in the Education Department. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to enter a teaching role themselves, and get some great hands-on experience in Wet Labs and classrooms. The Aquarium is launching some new programs, some of which require Bilingual Students. If accepted, students will miss one school day per week.

NICOLA VALLEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY NVIT is the home of Aboriginal public postsecondary education in B.C. The student body represents over 70% of the Aboriginal communities across the province. NVIT offers over 300 courses and programs ranging from trades training to Bachelor of Social Work. Campuses are in Merritt & Vancouver with online courses and community-based deliveries throughout Canada, NVIT serves approximately 1400 students annually. NVIT also has some of the lowest tuition fees in BC and minimal ‘other fees’. ‘Experience NVUT’ event takes place on March 3 & 4 at the Mer r itt campus. ongratulations to the gymnastics team who flipped, flew, rolled and rocked at the North Shore Championships on Friday, February 5. The boys team placed first and won the banner! The girls team placed third. Winning all round level two male was Mattias Feigl-Schmidt, Patrick Ellis won all round male athlete level 1 with John Chae in 5th and Jacob Nieckarz in 6th. Kiahna Jennex placed third

in all round female athlete level 1 junior with Gaby Tumaneng and Chelsea Kim right behind her in fourth and fifth and Kiana Burran in 7th. In level 1 seniors Claire Traille placed 6th all round. In level 2 seniors all around Grace Lee placed 5th and Monica Bowman placed 8th. Himali Bergeron-Vitez placed third in level 3 seniors all around. In level 5 Alexis Romero placed third all around. These athletes

have qualified for provincials in March! There were also many individual podium placings throughout the day earning a combined total of 52 ribbons.

NSSSAA BOYS BASKETBALL Juvenile Champions 2015-2016

ongratulations to the Juvenile Girls basketball team who were undefeated during their season and won both the North Shore Championship and the Vancouver and Districts! They headed up to Kelowna to compete in the Provincials where they were awarded 2nd place. Stefanie Bordignon and Kristinn Black were awarded first team all stars with tournament MVP going to Rebecca Clarke.

STA PARENT ASSOCIATION NEWS

T

hank you to all parents who helped at the STA Open House and those of you who sent in baked goods, particularly the beautiful pencil cookies that were a big hit.

Thank you also to the parent volunteers who assisted with the Grade 9 Immunization clinic. The public health nurses are always incredibly impressed with the efficiency of our parents.

STA Prison Ministry would like to ask all readers to consider donating a Mothers’ Day card to be given to inmates in our prisons so they can send cards to their own mothers. Your generosity helps them connect with their mothers in a meaningful way and to see how God works in their lives. FoodSafe level 1 Course at STA FoodSafe Level 1 is required by food handlers to work in the food service industry. The course will be offered at STA on the on Tuesday, March 29 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm and Wednesday, March 30, 3:15 pm—5:30 pm. The instructor will be Sally de la Rue Browne, a Certified Public Health Inspector and former parent at STA. FoodSafe level 1 is offered at a discounted price of $68. Payment by cheque payable to Enviro-Food Consulting can be dropped off at the STA office. Pre-registration was required by Friday, February 26 at: www.envirofood.org under Course Schedule.
