1. The Local Air Transportation System
Air freight accounts for a less than 1% of total freight carried in terms of both volume and weight. However, air freight accounts for about 40% of its value The key value added by air transport is time, the quick delivery of key items
5
2. Air Transportation Traffic & Capacity
MBJ‘s current annual passenger traffic is 3.8 million. Built capacity can accommodate 9 million passengers. NMIA, current annual passenger traffic is 1.5 million and built capacity: 4.5 million passengers
Note cargo volumes for NMIA in 1996 totalled 31.42m Kgs
MBJ
33% 67%

2. Air Transportation Traffic & Capacity
Note: Both airports have expansion plans for their runways Enterprise Team now considering a Vernamfield Airport project

3. Air Cargo Growth Prospects & Initiatives NMIA Current cargo space all committed. Additional warehouse space needed - BOOT investor East Airfield Development practically completed, providing expanded apron and parking arrangements for Cargo Runway Extension & RESA New airlift capacity needed from NMIA into Europe and South/Central America
SIA Air Service mix (including charters) – At present less than 50 of the airlines handles cargo. Business strategy to support cargo development. Runway Extension & RESA Expansion of Cargo facilities at SIA to be considered. 8
3. Air Cargo Growth Prospects & Initiatives Within the context of the Logistics Hub: Expanding (up-scaling) current air cargo movement & services Increasing air cargo warehousing facilities Moving new types of cargo generated via the SEZs Attracting larger air cargo carriers Introducing smaller regional carriers and reviving domestic aviation (Caribbean air connectivity is challenging) 9

In logistics it’s all about goods? One might think so. Actually, it is about people. The success of transportation and logistics operators depends decisively on the quality and qualifications of its employees. This prerequisite will not decrease but increase in the future. www.pwc.com/tl2030
