February 1, 2014 Dear Gadsden Arts Center Members, 2013 has been another exciting year of growth and effective service to our community. The Gadsden Arts Center is here to improve residents’ and visitors’ quality of life by fostering the understanding, appreciation, and creation of art; revitalize downtown Quincy through historic preservation, providing social opportunities, and attracting visitors; and stimulate the economy. In 2013 our efforts were guided by goals set by the Board of Directors: sustain Exhibitions of Importance, grow Education Programs, increase Diversity and Community Engagement. Generous donor support of the Campaign for the Future II sustains exhibitions with rich historical or cultural content, the highest level of craftsmanship, new artistic voices, and quality, through 2017. The Southern Watercolor Society exhibition in 2013, Masterworks on the Move exhibition of American Painting this year, and the upcoming American Society of Marine Painters and Dean Mitchell: Reservation Series exhibitions are examples. Campaign support also made possible moving the Education Coordinator position from part-time to full-time, increasing children and adult programs on-site and in Gadsden County schools, and making possible special projects like the Quincy-Los Angeles Art Exchange for advanced Hispanic students that was planned in 2013 and will take place this March. In 2012-2013, the board also examined Diversity in all aspects of organizational programming, participation, and Community Engagement, which were catalysts for the inaugural Art and Garden event last October and reinvention of the gala as An Evening with the Arts last month. In keeping with our standard for excellence, Gadsden Arts also hosted an Art Trip to Boston and installed state-of-the-art LED lighting in the Sara May Love Gallery. As you will see in the following pages, the Gadsden Arts Center continues to offer the range and quality of exhibitions and programs offered by much larger museums, made possible by the dedication and enthusiastic participation of our members, donors, and volunteers. I thank all of you and look forward to another exciting year in 2014! Grace Robinson Executive Director
