EducationQuest Foundation Bulletin

Winter break: a good time for college prep! Take advantage of free time over the holidays to do some prep work for college. Here are a few things you can do! Seniors, complete your FAFSA If you haven’t already, complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Need help? Use our free FAFSA Tools or call us to make an appointment for free help: Omaha - 888.357.6300; Lincoln 800.303.3745; Kearney - 800.666.3721; or Scottsbluff - 800.303.3745, ext. 6654. Search for scholarships Use our free ScholarshipQuest tool to find Nebraska-based awards. You’ll also find links to national scholarship sites. Update your Activities Resume Our free Activities Resume is an easy way to track your extracurricular activities, accomplishments, volunteer work, and part-time jobs. The information is then readily available when you apply for scholarships and employment. Volunteer In addition to giving back to your community, your volunteer work can lead to scholarship opportunities. Make sure you track your involvement on your Activities Resume. Juniors…get psyched for a busy spring! It’s critical that you participate in college prep activities this spring so you’ll be ready to apply for college and financial aid early next fall. Activities include: taking the ACT attending a college fair going on campus visits narrowing your college choices

Juniors….The February 11 ACT deadline to register is January 13. Register on-line at www.actstudent.org Before registering, make sure you check your schedule for February 11. There is a speech meet scheduled in Cedar Bluffs that day. Once you register you cannot get a refund, even if you are unable to test that day. If you are a junior I highly suggest taking the ACT in February so you have plenty of opportunities to retake the test. Juniors will be receiving test prep resources and assistance in core classes leading up to both tests, but especially . It seems early to register for the February ACT test but December is a busy month and with the semester break in there, it is often easier to register early. The cost of taking the ACT test is $42.50. If juniors receive free or reduced lunches, they make take the ACT up to two times for free. See Ms. Moser for the additional form. Mead’s high school code is 281-475. Students in grades 10-12 who are planning on applying to the National Honor Society second semester need to make sure you have 20 hours of community service from March of 2016 to March of 2017 as well as a cumulative GPA of at least a 92%. If you need community service ideas or are looking for some opportunities, see Miss Moser.

Thank you Cynthia Pleskac!!!

When you have a chance check out the Touch Screen in the High School Commons! You will find yearbooks as far back as 1957 to “thumb” through page by page. There are more on the way. However, we are missing the 1947 issue. If you have a copy that you would be willing to let us scan we would really appreciate it!

Coming soon…….Alumni photos back to the 1800’s!!! We owe Mead graduate Cynthia (Ellison) Pleskac (class of 1983) a HUGE thank you for spending over 500 hours scanning, restoring and enhancing more than 2100 photos to get them screen ready.
