PREP AGAPE DAY

On the 14th of February we celebrated AGAPE day in the Prep school. The children and staff came to school dressed in pink, red and white and much fun was had by all. The love of God was incorporated in the morning line-up, weekly Bible verse and devotions and spoken about in assembly, too. Everyone had a day filled with God’s love!

We really hope you enjoyed your visit. The Grade Threes certainly have some precious memories of the day.

COLLEGE GIRLS B TEAM

Left to right: Melissa Kreft, Lisa Fellingham, Sarah Wynberger and Georgina Tasioulas The Girl’s B side tennis team took part in a tournament with 19 schools competing on Saturday 16 February. Being such a large tournament, the first round was played at 4 different schools and from there teams moved to a second venue, depending on how well they fared in the first round Round Robin.

HeronBridge then joined all the second placed teams at St Andrews in Bedfordview and after another 2 games in a knockout competition, were placed 8th overall. This is an excellent achievement and I congratulate Lisa

SIBLING ALERT NOTE FROM THE ADMISSIONS DEPARTMENT:

Have you registered your younger siblings? Whilst we do prioritize sibling enrolments, we can only do this if they are registered timeously. We have three major intake years – Grade 000, 00 and Grade 8. Please note that Grade R and Grade 1 are not common intake years therefore it is difficult to accommodate pupils (including siblings) in these grades. All other Grades feed through from the previous year, and places only become available if an existing child leaves.

ADVENTURE CLUB

On the pleasantly cloudy morning of 22 February, the first 10 applicants of the HeronBridge Adventure Club met at school to set out on an ac-

tion packed day of hiking and kloofing in the Magaliesburg. Thankfully the cloud cover sheltered us from the powerful morning sun and the kloof protected us from its midday heat. The hike was far from average and straight forward and many complex sections of the kloof had to be tackled with rope and agility. We drank the icy water from the mountain stream when the going got tough and cooled our achy muscles in the stream when the kloof presented no other option. Students from all grades said the day was awesome, suggesting a name change to the “Extreme Club”. Our next trips promise to be longer and more extreme so speak to Mr Paidas and sign up first so you don’t miss out! The participants were: Michalea Schagen, Courtney Schagen, Anees Jappie, Michael Jenkins, Kyle Spencer, Ulemo Tholo, Eric Loosen, Gareth Stubbs, Matthew Smith and Jordan Holland. - Nic Paidas, Adventure Club

ANNUAL PUBLIC SPEAKING FESTIVAL Our Grade 11 Public Speakers participated in the annual Public Speaking Festival last week and must be congratulated on their success. They competed against Redhill, Yeshiva College and Christ Church College, Midrand and we are proud to say that we were awarded the highest result of the evening. The speakers had to choose, as inspiration, the title of a painting by an acknowledged artist. This was a very academic exercise and resulted in excellent content that was interesting, inspiring and entertaining. Both teams were praised by the adjudicator for L to r: Michael Daubermann, Sonia Chitate, Josh van den Berg and Rebecca Cullum

their polished presentations and for their confidence and their skill. Michael Daubermann, Sonia Chitate, Joshua v.d Berg and Rebecca Cullum must be congratulated on achieving an A (89%) and Natasha Lewis, Mpho Madau, Valentine Chisango and Erin Oberem for being awarded a B+ (79%). Four of our Grade 11 speakers spoke for the very first time and must be commended on an excellent result. It takes courage to address an audience and it takes a great deal of hard work for the speakers to synthesise four distinct
