Welcome This year’s message finds all of us in a more up beat mood as stong beef prices appear to be here for a while. Producers who endured the recent turbulent times in our industry can hopefully expect some stability in the coming years. Now is a good time to analyze our herds and inject genetics which can build for the future. Cull prices are strong and therefore replacement female and herdbull purchases make sense. Simmental can provide options for many commercial programs. The breed has a moderated frame, greater feeding efficiency and still those strong maternal traits which made Simmental renowned. The genetics offered through red and black purebreds and Fleckvieh/ fullbloods provides opportunities for cross breeding in a variety of situations. The polled factor is available in all segments of the breed. These factors can make Simmental a strong possibility for your next herd bull. You can expect bull calves that make thick, growthy stockers and heifer calves that are keepers as herd replacements. In closing, feel free to approach a local Simmental breeder with your breeding stock needs. Herd bulls, replacement females for your commercial herd or select females to start a registered program can all be found nearby. Semen and embryos from leading genetics are also available. Businesses encourage us to shop local for a variety of good reasons. I suggest the same applies when looking for herd improving Simmental genetics.
