Castle Acre is a historic conservation village in the Nar Valley, as Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and marks a point along the ‘Peddars Way’ . The village is noted for its ancient historic sites of the 13th Century Priory and Castle ruins, the fineChurch of st James the Great overlooks the village green.. Situated around 4 miles from Swaffham , just off the A1065 Swaffham to Fakenham road, the amenities in the village include two public houses, a village green with first school, a general store, post office, tea rooms, restaurant, spar shop and the village green has large playing field with an extensive children’s play area. .

Only 20 miles away is Kings Lynn which offers a wide variety of schools and cultural leisure facilities, plus a main line railway staion with links to London Kings Cross taking 1 hour 40 minutes. Closer at hand only a few miles away is the thriving historic market town of Swaffham which is situated just off the A47 and hosts an extensive selection of shops, variety of pubs, restaurants, various social gatherings and wide choice of sports activities. The town also has a popular Saturday market and many interesting historic buildings which include ‘The Buttercross’ and majestic Parish Church. The market town of Fakenham is just 12 miles south west and has a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, the well known Thursday Flea Market and the Fakenham Race Course, with Golf Course and Leisure Centre. The famous Sandringham Estate is only 15 miles away and the coastal town of Hunstanton just 22 miles.

Castle Acre is easy to get to, whether you are travelling from Norwich or Kings Lynn, by following the A47 to Swaffham and then turning onto to the A1065 Fakenham Road. Following this road, turn left (opposite the George & Dragon Public House which is on the right hand side on the main road) - signposted to Castle Acre, into Newton Road and continue into the village turning left into Pyes Lane. Then turn right onto the Massingham Road, then second right onto Archer Lane, where access to North Barn can be found a short distance on the left hand side. Travelling from London? It’s easy to get here via the M11 to Cambridge, the A11-A14- A11 to Barton Mills, then up the A1065 through Swaffham and then follow the directions above. For those with satellite navigation the postcode is PE32 2AQ.
