st regis rituals champagne sabering 15
the art of sabrage has an illustrious history that stretches back more than 200 years. the practice is most commonly associated with napoleon bonaparte, who famously opened champagne with his saber, savoring it in victory and defeat. the tradition continued in europe, eventually becoming popular around the world. now carried out flawlessly at many st. regis hotels and resorts around the world, the brand continues to saber champagne in lieu of the more traditional uncorking. here at the st regis san francisco we are sabering every thursday, friday & saturday at 6 pm in the hotel lobby.
afternoon tea anna, duchess of bedford, created the afternoon tea in the 19th century in england as a small meal between lunch and a late dinner. in the latter part of this era, the tradition would be adopted by caroline astor, new york’s grand dame, to entertain her closest friends at the iconic st. regis new york. at the st. regis san francisco we value this tradition and invite you to experience our distinct, modern, and innovative interpretation of this legacy with locally sourced fare and teas from around the world. we are serving afternoon tea with a modern twist every day from 2pm to 4pm in the hotel lobby lounge. allow us to make a reservation for you.
