Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord March 27, 2016

On this day of days we offer a joyful sacrifice of praise to the Father who raised His Son from the dead. Let us be intent upon the life Christ offers us, Christ our Passover who has been sacrificed. Next Week’s Readings Acts 5:12-16 Ps 118:2-4, 13-15, 22-24 Rv 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19 Jn 20:19-31

All of the beautiful Easter flowers in the church represent a loved one. It is with Easter joy that we remember: Isabel M Alvarez Maria A. Arellano Joe C. Arias Art Aurand Jesse Aurand Mr. & Mrs G. The Angel’s News This Easter Every year we probably hear the Easter Gospel a little differently. Where we are on our journeys to Jerusalem and Calvary affects what we hear and how we hear it. The words spoken by the angel resonate with different meanings as we move and change through life. If you are celebrating the safe return of a lost son or daughter, the empty tomb is the assurance of God’s protection during the darkest nights and along the most dangerous roads. If you are mourning the loss of a spouse or child or dear friend, the angel’s news may be the first light of hope to illuminate your broken heart: the promise that the Risen Christ has lovingly taken your loved one to the dwelling place of His Father. If you’ve lost your job or if you and your family are struggling financially, the moving of the immovable rock is a sign of God’s grace, enabling you to realize what is truly dear and important to you. In the sight of the stone rolled away, God extends His hand to lift you out of your despair and to help you realize the abilities and gifts you have to live your life with meaning and purpose. Every Easter, a different piece or player of the Easter story speaks to our hearts and spirits, our fears and anxieties, depending on our particular circumstances. In this moment of our lives, in this time and place, God speaks to us in the words of the angel, in the site of the open grave, in the simple kindness of the myrrh bearers. Whatever road you are traveling this Easter, whatever burial clothes you are struggling to free yourself from, whatever cross you are struggling to carry, may you find reason to hope – and may that hope free you to recreate your life in Easter joy, peace – and amazement.

Update Last November, a long-time parishioner of St. Mary, Terry Ianora, suffered a serious spinal cord injury in a fall. Terry has dedicated her life to the pro-life movement, serving as Director for over forty years of First Way, a crisis pregnancy center in our community. Her continuing recovery will be long, arduous, and expensive. The family has many needs. We are seeking people to help in Terry’s care. The needs are numerous and range from the medical to the mundane, skilled and unskilled, paid and volunteer. To offer assistance or seek more information, please email: [email protected] or call Jan at 541-228-5727. Financial contributions can be made to the Terry Ianora Medical Donation Fund in person or by mail to any branch of Umpqua Bank. Please join us in helping Terry who has given so much to her church, her community, and the protection of the unborn.

Life Line Screening According to the American Public Health Association’s website, “…every year chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes are responsible for millions of premature deaths…Catching and preventing these illnesses and incidents before they develop is the key to improving our nation’s health.” At St. Mary Catholic Church, we agree. This is why we are hosting Life Line Screening, the nation’s leading provider of preventive health screenings on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Screenings are fast, painless and affordable. Three key tests check for blocked carotid arteries, and irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation, and high blood pressure, which are the three leading risk factors for stroke. Other tests check for abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women. Screening packages start at $139. Single tests cost around $70. For more information regarding the screenings or to schedule an appointment, call 1-888-653-6441. Preregistration is required.
