Dear Gateway PGA Junior Tour Members, 17269 Wild Horse Creek Rd. Suite 110 Chesterfield, MO 63005 Phone: 636-532-3355 Alex Anderson Junior Golf Director Ali Wells, PGA Director Foundation Programs & Player Development

October was a very exciting month for the Gateway PGA Junior Tour members and their families. We had a strong close to the season, ending with venues such as Tapawingo, Annbriar, and St. Albans Country Club. The recaps for each of these events can be found in this month’s newsletter as well as on the website. Overall, I believe the season was a success and there has been a bar set looking into 2014. Thank you all for your continued support!! Many of our juniors had wonderful Girls and Boys State Championship appearances from both sides of the river. A special congratulations is in order for the following Junior Members for their top ten individual finishes; Rachael Pearson, Emily Goldenstein, Logan Otter, Taylor Hayes, Nicole Shearing, Abby Schroeder, Shawn Rennegarbe, Allie Leingang, and Emilee Flaugher. Congratulations to all on a great season! The Gateway PGA is also excited to announce the 2013 Clarence Voigt Scholarship recipient, Nathanial Leingang! Nathanial exemplifies sportsmanship, leadership, and ambition on and off the golf course. He is a very deserving candidate and we are pleased that he is our 2013 recipient. Congratulations Nathanial! Despite the tournament calendar being complete, things will still be busy around the Gateway PGA Section office. Planning for the 2014 season has already begun and we will be announcing exciting additions and changes to the program in the upcoming weeks. Be sure to keep checking your email and the website to stay up to date on new information. I want to wish everyone a safe and Happy Halloween. I hope to see you all soon. Thank you, Alex Anderson Director Of Junior Golf Gateway PGA Junior Tour 1

It was perfect day at Pheasant Run golf course last Sunday. Our juniors had to hone in their short game skills as they battled their way through this Par 57 short course. It was a great day with loads of low scores and stiff competition. Congratulations to all our medalist and thank you all who attended. 9 Hole Girls 12 and Under

A huge thank you to host PGA Professional Jeff Mullican and the staff at Pheasant Run Golf Course for allowing to utilize their facility.

It was a brisk and blustery day at Innsbrook Resort Golf Course for the fifth fall event of the season. Cooler conditions and late showers on Saturday made for some tough conditions adjustments on game day. Congratulations to all of our medalists and thank you all for participating. What an awesome way to close out the junior tour calendar year! St. Albans Country Club provided a great overall tournament experience. Whether it was ESA Hazards, quick greens, or tricky course layout, our juniors were tested and challenged on every hole. I want to personally thank everyone for coming out to not only the last event, but for participating all season long. It was a great way to end the year and I hope to see everyone in the spring! -Alex Anderson, Director of Junior Golf. A good way to insure a smooth swing is to be relaxed. How do we do that with all the internal chatter and external noise in our heads and in our lives? A growing legion of golfers find yoga techniques and stretches to be beneficial. Yoga is a practice that connects the body and mind to enhance concentration and relaxation. Following is a yoga sequence that can help with relaxation. Practice yoga anywhere but ideally in an area that is quiet and gives you room to move. Stand tall with feet a hip’s width apart. Take a deep breath in. As you exhale, fold forward and walk your hands down your legs. Inhale as you come up half-way with a long spine, placing your hands on your shins; exhale and lower yourself by walking your hands down your legs. Repeat four times. Come to your hands and knees –arms under the shoulders, knees under the hips. As you inhale, lower the spine (slightly swayback) creating a dog position as you gaze forward. Then as you exhale, move the spine in the opposite direction by rounding, arching your spine like an angry cat. Go through this series four times inhaling and exhaling as you move. Rest by moving the hips to the heels and belly on thighs for relaxation while continuing a slow inhale and exhale. Stay for several breaths. Next sit with legs out in front of you on floor. Sit up tall. Inhale and put hands up overhead. As you exhale, lengthen the spine and fold forward from the hips for about 30 seconds. Then inhale bringing your arms up overhead lengthen through the spine and sit up tall. Exhale; release your hands to the floor. Repeat for six breaths. End by lying on your back, body extended on the floor. Place hands on your belly. Continue inhaling and exhaling. Feel your belly rise on the inhale and navel drop toward your spine on the exhale. Inhale and exhale 10 times slowly. See if you can match the length of the inhale to the length of the exhale. (For example, count 1-2-3-4-in, then 1-2-3-4 out). Concentrate on slow rhythmic breathing while you go through each of the above movements. Before or after you arrive on the course, incorporate these simple stretching routines and enjoy a more relaxed approach to your game. These are just a few stretches to get you started.
