YEARBOOK

FROM THE DIRECTOR On behalf of the entire Junior Bowlers Tour family, I’d like to thank you for reading this yearbook, and hope you’ll enjoy these pages as a celebration of another wonderful season of JBT competition, excitement, and friendship. There are so many people who help make JBT events happen every week, and they all deserve a huge amount of thanks. Pac NW director Evan Olson and Tour-wide “hospitality coordinator” Jerod Florez are my right hand men, keeping things flowing at each event and also during the week as we prepare for the next adventure. Bruce Hemer, Bruce Lee, Matt Cormack at the Main Event, Cindy Carlson, and my raffle sales teams all make it come together as well. We are lucky to have terrific host centers, and they and their management and staff are vital to our success. All of our sponsors are invaluable in presenting a quality tournament at a reasonable cost, and we appreciate all they do. Gene and Alice Preston at the Awards Store make our plaques and Dennis Fankuchen at K&K make most of our other awards, two things all too easy to take for granted, so I want to make sure how much they know they are appreciated as well! Most importantly, thank YOU, the bowlers and family that take the time and expense to come to our events. We know it’s not an easy world out there right now, and in turn we try very hard to put on a good show for you. We hope you leave every JBT event having had a great time, having made some great memories, and eager to come back to another JBT event with more of your friends. We are very excited about what we have in store for 2013-14, with some subtle but significant changes and improvements to introduce to you. Please, it’s up to you to help us make JBT successful by spreading the word to everyone of all ages and all averages that what we do is for them too. Thanks in advance, and see you soon!

EBONITE & THE JBT Ebonite has been the title sponsor of the Junior Bowlers Tour since 2006, and is happy to continue their sponsorship into the 2014-15 JBT season. Ebonite balls are raffled off at all JBT events, and raffle proceeds form a big part of the prize funds awarded at each event. THANK YOU EBONITE!!!

It wasn’t easy, though, as the final match against Oscar Chan came down to the final ball, with Jakob getting the strike for the win. In an all-Californian handicap finale, Greg Adler got past Marguerite Evans for the title. Both winners not only earned the famous glass cactus, but free 2013 BEST IN THE WEST: In our most unique tournament format, bowlers play ‘mini-eliminators’, earning points with finalists determined by those points, not pinfall. Eric Hatchett, Las Vegas NV, won his first career major title by holding off Lanndyn Carnate in the scratch division title match. Alexis Atkin kick-started a very successful handicap division season with a title match win over Jared Boscarino, for the title. 2013 LAS VEGAS MAIN EVENT: In our showcase open-field event, Jakob Butturff, Las Vegas NV, continued his dominance of the season with a thrilling 218-202 title match win over Wesley Low. 300s / 800s Bowling a 300 game or 800 series is still a very special event on our Tour, and it gets even more special, with the challenging conditions that are becoming the majority of patterns seen on Tour. Only ninteeen 300 games have been shot this season, down from previous seasons, and just five 800 series, led by Brian Monnette’s amazing 823! Each bowler’s first 300 gets a custom-embroidered 300 club shirt from K&K Sportswear, gets on our 300 banner and website for life, and earns a JBT 300 club award of their choice.

2013--14 Season Highlights 2013 A spectacular, 102 event season saw both veteran faces and some new names take the spotlight. The scratch division was dominated by two bowlers with terrific storylines. 14 year-old Cortez Schenck proved that it’s not age that determines results, it’s talent, as he won a whopping 10 titles Tour-wide against competition as old as 22. He used all that experience earned at JBT events to help capture the U15 division of Junior Gold this summer! Wesley Low, a 13 time-JBT champ including five this year, also defied age, winning the U20 division of Gold at age 16. Wesley and Tez join Pac NW Bowler of the Year Daniel Hanson, Tyler Boe, and many others winning at the scratch level at very young ages. The other big scratch story was the meteoric rise of Jakob Butturff. Jakob was already an improving player when he captured the TPC and Desert Open to wrap up last season, and never once looked back all this season. He captured 20 titles in just one year, smashing Kyle King’s record, among them the prestigious Main Event title. He won in all five conferences, making believers out of everyone along the way, and will be a big favorite to defend his TPC crown this season. December is always a special month as we welcome back alumni for our Doubles and Team events, but it was far more special this season as December 8 marked the 1000th tournament in JBT history, welcoming back anyone who bowled any of the previous 999 events to lace them up again. Kyle King surprised absolutely nobody by

winning the scratch title, while Alex Pellegrino won not only the handicap event, but the following day’s Doubles event with his Dad. Both wins were at the expense of Alexis Atkin, who must have gotten fired up over the losses, as she racked up top 5s and wins the rest of the season. It looks like it might not be enough to catch Anthony Dang, though, who burst onto the scene with 4 titles and a lead on all-conference Bowler of the Year headed into the TPC. The ladies of JBT continue to shine as well. The northwest remained supertough, highlighted by a true ladies weekend as Breanne Mattson and Courtney Nikolas swept the open scratch titles, a JBT first. Season-long, though, it was Correen Lieber (5) and Makayla Douglas (10) taking the vast majority of the Impact Bowling Women’s Series titles. NM-TX saw a terrific sister act, as Sara (6) and Bree (5) Vargas dominated their conference. Action was more spread out in the other conferences, with the well-traveled Atkin earning top honors in 2 of the 3 other regions. 66 bowlers won their first JBT titles this season, and 5 did it in style by winning them at majors: Correen Lieber (Summer Masters), Johnny Leggett (NW Invite), Zach Rapp (T of C), Samantha Sellers (AZ Invite), and Morgan Ellis (NM-TX Invite). This is just the top of the iceberg of a fascinating, exciting Tour of great bowling centers with great families. We hope you enjoyed the experience as much as the many people who help bring that experience to you. We can’t wait to see what’s in store next!

We love you! See you soon for SEASON 19!
