CELEBRITY AND EMERALD AUDITION To Do: Attend Meeting about Tryouts Read through the LISD Dance Team Handbook and Application Process Fill out Forms Completely Did you attach a current picture? Applications are due no later than 9 am on Wednesday November 30 to Ms. Danielson, Mrs. Steedley or Mrs. Vaughn

I.

Audition Clinic: 2 day Clinic will be held, Tuesday December 6th and Wednesday December 7th from 4:30pm6:00pm (students will warm up and stretch on their own till 4:30pm). Optional Practice Thursday December 8th 7:45am-8:30am Clinic will be in the CPHS Dance Studio. Each candidate will learn a dance that could include kick, hip hop, contemporary and jazz styles. All Candidates should wear all black and jazz shoes or foot paws during the clinic. Hair must be pulled back in a ponytail or bun. No gum or jewelry during the clinic or tryout. Candidates must attend all days of the clinic to be eligible for tryouts.

II. Tryouts: Thursday December 8th in the CPHS Dance Studio. Students should get dressed and stretch immediately after school. Judges’ selection will be based on overall coordination, style, jazz technique, high kick technique, flexibility, extension, strength, endurance, projection, memory, and overall performance. All Candidates will perform the dance in groups of 3 or 4 and show right and left splits. Each candidate will wear a number during the tryout. Remember to bring extra safety pins to auditions. Hair needs to be pulled back in a ponytail or bun with all whispies firmly secured with hair clips and hairspray. Students will wear all black- black tank top or leotard, black hot shorts, tan tights, jazz shoes or foot paws. Students should also wear performance make up with red lip stick. The tryouts are closed to the public. The only people allowed in the tryouts are the judges, the directors, any administrators, and the Senior Celebrity helpers. Emerald Candidates will go before Celebrity Candidates. Candidates will be dismissed by the directors.

III. Call Backs: The judges may request to call back any candidates they wish to see again for another performance of any part of the audition process. Call Backs will immediately follow the last group of candidates. Do not leave the audition area until all call backs are complete and the directors have officially dismissed you. IV. After Auditions The final list of 2017-2018 Celebrities and 2017 Emeralds will be posted on the Celebrities website: www.CPHSCelebrities.org approximately 1 hour after all candidates have been dismissed. There will be a short information breakfast meeting for all members of the 2017-2018 Celebrities and all members of the 2017 Emeralds on Monday December 12th at 8:00 am. You will receive more information about 2nd semester, expectations, dates, and a few pictures will be taken. V. Rising Stars- Celebrities in Training Second Semester In the spring, all Rising Stars will be in the same class period. The Rising Stars will work on technique, prepare for their spring show performance, and learn several of the traditional Celebrity routines. VI. Emeralds In the spring – Emeralds that are 8th graders will complete their year with their current teams and after spring break they will learn a dance to perform in spring show. Emeralds that are current HS students will be in enrolled in a dance class if they are not currently. Emeralds will work on technique and prepare for their spring show performance. VII. Facts about Trying out for Celebrities and Emeralds There is no set number of candidates that will make Celebrities or Emeralds each year. An “A” in dance class does not guarantee you will make the team. Grade classification does not affect tryouts, skill does.

Audition Skill Checklist The following is a list of elements that could be in the audition routines. These are the skills you need to focus on to prepare for auditions: Turns Pirouettes, chaines, piques, inside pirouettes ** Correct technique is important: spotting, use of releve, passé placement and turnout.) Leaps Jete, Calypso, Russian (leap in 2nd) ** correct technique is important: extended toes, ankles and knees, height, flexibility. Kicks Kicks should be well above shoulder height, with straight knees and pointed ankles and toes and kicking to the center/nose of the body. Work on stamina, strength, and endurance. Stretch and kick everyday between now and tryouts. Splits Right and Left with correct alignment **square hips and pointed feet. Physical Fitness We suggest stretching and conditioning your body every day.

CPHS Celebrities and Emeralds Payment Schedule 2017 Contract As a team, the Celebrities have expenses ranging from $50k to $100k per year that the Celebrity Booster Club helps raise funds for. Fundraised money does not include many extras where the financial responsibility lies with the parent or legal guardian. Each dancer has an obligation to purchase her required dance attire (apparel, shoes, accessories, & make-up) along with other fees associated with a dance team. As a parent or legal guardian you are responsible to keep your dancer’s fees paid in full. The fees listed below are for required dance attire, line camp and Booster Club Dues for the Celebrities and Emeralds. . Please note that these are estimated costs and you may receive a credit or owe more money as the school year progresses.

All payments must be made in the form of a check or money order payable to CPHS Celebrities Boosters and must include your driver’s license number and telephone number and your daughter’s name. You may also use PayPal on the Celebrities website for a small convenience fee. Payments are due on Booster Club meeting nights and should be brought to the meeting or mailed to the CPHS Celebrities Boosters. Payments are expected to be made on Booster Club meeting days unless otherwise listed. Late payments may prevent students from participating in an event, receiving apparel, or gifts provided or your check being deposited late. You may also incur interest charges or higher pricing if these items are not paid in advance and ordered in bulk. Order forms and a fitting will happen in February/March for you to see exactly what your daughter will be ordering. There is a $35 charge for any returned checks.



Special Note: When placing orders, custom items may not be cancelled or changed. Therefore, any payment you have made toward a purchase is non-refundable.
