Tax Appeals are Available to Ensure Fair Real Estate Taxes

Arnold Robinson

On Feb. 24 the Chamber luncheon meeting was held at Terrigno’s Fairfield Inn after being delayed one week due to snow. The program was presented by Matthew Robinson and Arnold Robinson of Robinson & Robinson, LLC. They were also the meeting sponsors. Matthew and Arnold explained the real estate tax appeals process explaining that it is part of the government’s system to help ensure that you and/or your business are paying your fair share of real estate taxes and not overpaying and negatively affecting your personal or business bottom line. They highlighted how the process works and how a successful appeal can save hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year for you. For more information visit www.robinsonlawllc.com. The Chamber welcomed two new members at the February meeting – Laurel Lawn Cemetery and Bridgeton Public Charter School.

Movie Highlights “The Magic of Cumberland County” Bruce Riley of Ultra Clean Technologies, Chamber Board Member, Officer and Chairman of the Movie Project proudly announced that after nearly two years of planning, filming, editing and production, the Bridgeton Area Chamber of Commerce’s new economic development impact movie is complete. Now public agencies, area businesses and residents can

help distribute the movie by viewing it on the internet via the Chamber website www.baccnj.com/ImpactMovie.htm. Once the page opens, just click on the link to see the movie streaming from YouTube.com. After viewing it, the Chamber is asking its members, other area businesses, public entities and the public to share the link on Facebook, other social media, in email messages and on websites.

To help add one of these taglines and add this link to the words – www.baccnj.com/ImpactMovie.htm • Cumberland County NJ, Open for Your Business! • The “Magic of Cumberland County NJ” as a great place to do business, work and live. View and share the Bridgeton Area Chamber of Commerce movie that highlights “the magic of Cumberland County” • as a great place to do business, live and work. – www.baccnj.com/ImpactMovie.htm. As of the printing of this newsletter, there have been 1,450 views of the movie on YouTube in less than 2 full weeks of circulating the link. There have been several very positive comments and the Chamber has been recognized by the Cumberland County Board of Freeholders for the movie. Additional world-wide marketing of the movie and the area will commence later this year after funding and planning are completed. “I want to thank the Chamber Board for committing money to produce this economic development marketing tool for our area,” commented Riley. “This was a big investment for our relatively small Chamber for a project that fits our mission of promoting business and development in the area and representing the entire business community to the public,” he added. Riley also acknowledged the support and work of the producer Keith Wasserman of Shoot the Moon Communications, a local area business, for his leadership, talent and expertise in making this a first-class 8-minute movie that highlights many reasons to maintain and expand businesses here and to consider using our region as a location to serve the entire East Coast market in the U.S.

Riley also thanked the movie committee that played a key role in the movie project including Carol Musso, Frank Harris, Jody Hirata, Karen Hepner, Kim Wood, Susan Jones and Tony Stanzione. He also pointed out that Cumberland County Board of Freeholders and Cumberland County Economic Development office have also contributed to the project, including sharing some production costs as they are using the same producer to produce a county video. The movie’s stars are the businesses, business leaders, residents and vistas of Cumberland County. The movie features local business and economic development leaders talking about their feelings about why the Bridgeton area and Cumberland County overall are great places to locate and grow your business. Riley points out that the interviews were not scripted. Riley says, “the comments came from the hearts of the speakers and their collective concern and passion for Cumberland County is evident in the movie and impresses those who view it.” The movie opens and closes with comments from Susan Jones, owner of Continued on page 13

It includes comments from Bill Whelan, former Cumberland County Freeholder Director and bank executive who used the phrase “that’s the magic of Cumberland County.” That has become one of the taglines for the movie. He was referring to the many attributes of the area including location along the giant East Coast market, the quality of the employees, area business leaders and the good people of the County. Wasserman edited the movie so amid music and beautiful scenes of the land, people, businesses and communities, you will hear inspiring and meaningful quotes like these: • “See the incredible advantages offered to businesses right here in our County. Location, affordability, workforce, quality of life – it’s all here.” • “We are right in the middle of it all.” • “You need to be here because there is a huge market here on the East Coast of the United States.” • “The cost of living, the cost of operations here is not nearly what it would be in nearby metropolitan areas.” • “There’s an excellent short line rail system that connects you to the Northeast and the rest of the country and there are significant amounts of affordable, properly zoned land near the rail lines.” • “One of the things we boast about and are proud of are the partnerships in Cumberland County. It is a team game to help your business.” • “Whether a company may need site location, financing, workforce development, we are really an ombudsman to help companies get the numbers they need so they know they can make money before they get here.” • “We have the relationships at the state, county and local level to work through approval processes and to maximize the incentives to get a new business to come here.” • “Cumberland County College is a wonderful college which is ranked 29th best community college in the country.” • “Boeing is not here by accident. We had the resources they needed -- the labor force to fit their needs and an airport large enough to accommodate them and others.” • “Any employer who comes here, is going to find employees who understand how important it is to be at work, to work hard to help the company they work for grow and succeed. And you can’t ask for any more than that.” • “One of the reasons Cumberland County works is because of the business community and they

believe in this area and that they believe we are moving forward and we will be on the cutting edge of what the future holds.” • “You discover the amazing opportunities available for your business here in Cumberland County.” • “And that’s the magic of Cumberland County” Others featured in the movie include Bruce Riley, Michael DuBois, Bill Whelan, Carmine Catalana, IV, Ed Overdevest, Tom Reed, Arvene Kilby, Tony Stanzione, Christy DiLeonardo, James Watson, David Hemple, Gerard Velazquez, III, Gary Simmerman, Bert Lopez, Jennifer Webb-McRae and Tom Sheppard.
