Dick lives in the house he was born in here in Caro. He has spent some time away from Caro but has always came back. In 1982, he started Caro Rental where he supports many events in Tuscola County providing items for festivals and other activities. Suzanne Smith was honored with the Merit Award for 2009. She is a pharmacist at State Street Pharmacy and Wellness Center. Suzanne’s organizational abilities and attention to details have been a huge benefit to the Chamber in planning and executing events. She has been the Vice President of the Chamber Board of Directors for the past 2 years. Some of her interests include baking, crafting, bowling, and being a Big Sister. Congratulations and thank you, Suzanne. Michelle Hodges, Mary Laethem, and Elizabeth Schlaud were nominated for Jr. Citizen of the year, and after much deliberation, Elizabeth was chosen for the honor of Jr. Citizen. MDOT HIGHWAY PICK-UP The Adopt-A-Highway program began in 1990 with 24 groups and has enjoyed widespread popularity for 20 years. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), more than 2,800 groups participated last year, hauling away 75,000 bags of litter. More than 1.8 million bags of trash have been cleared since 1990, which would fill approximately 9,500 garbage trucks. The collective efforts of these volunteer groups save MDOT about $1.5 million each year. The Caro Chamber is proud to be a part of keeping our roadways clean and appealing. Our first highway pickup date this year is Saturday, April 10 at 10 a.m. Any members able to help should meet us at the radio station across from VG’s. When we have many hands it doesn’t take much of our time to get our section cleaned. Give the Chamber office a call if you think you will be able to help us 989-673-5211 This Newsletter may also be viewed on our Website: www.CaroChamber.org

Mission & Vision Statements

CARO FARMERS MARKET

ABOUT OUR MEMBERS

Every month you see our Mission Statement somewhere in the newsletter to help us keep our objectives and goals fresh in our minds. Recently the Chamber Board of Directors met in a special session to revise the Mission Statement and create a Vision Statement. The new Mission Statement reads: “The mission of the Caro Chamber of Commerce is to create a positive and productive environment where business can grow and prosper, while enhancing the quality of life in the Caro area.” The Vision Statement they created reads as follows: “Our vision is to be the foremost voice for area businesses and organizations. We exist to provide leadership and to serve and represent our members. We maintain a strong presence in the community by organizing or assisting in activities that benefit the citizens and the business sector. The Chamber actively engages our members to be involved in the community and provides opportunities to socialize, exchange ideas and network.” Our Board of Directors work, many times sacrificially, to carry out the goals of these statements. When you see them, thank them for all they are doing to help and improve our business community and let them know how they can better serve you.

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR Caro Chamber members and friends enjoyed a delightful evening in many ways other than the honors that were given. Dave Beecher of The Brickhouse Grill fixed delicious appetizers, the Knights of Columbus cooked and served the meal to perfection, and Tanya Batschke of Lasting Impressions decorated the hall beautifully with the assistance of Pete O’Brien of PJ O’Brien’s Catering and Party Rental. Ryan Martus, student at Tuscola Technology Center, entertained us with lovely music on his keyboard, and Mary Laethem, one of the nominees for Jr. Citizen of the Year, played her harp for the attendees. Thirty-six businesses sponsored beautiful and unique tabletop floral arrangements which were enjoyed and then won by an individual at each table. A big thank you for everyone who had a part in this special evening.

CARO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AFTER HOURS Don’t miss these evenings of fun, refreshments, and networking with other businesses in the area! In February, a delightful After Hours with visiting and networking was enjoyed at Pat Curtis Chevrolet - Cadillac. On that cold winter evening the showroom was warm and inviting, the food beautifully displayed and cooked to perfection, and free oil changes were given away every 15 minutes to drawing winners. If you have not been attending After Hour events, plan to come to the next one. You are sure to meet someone new in our business community. In March, Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan and The Brickhouse Grille hosted a very successful After Hours at The Brickhouse. Many prizes were given out from a drawing of business cards and there is most always a 50/50 raffle during the evening. Over 70 people were in attendance at each of these last 2 events.
