JUDGE BIO: GARRY NEWTON Garry grew up with Great Danes and a Standard Poodle over which he hunted pheasant Iowa. His first show dogs were Great Danes which he brought back from England after being stationed there during part of his military career. After returning to the US he quickly became enamored with the sighthounds. His first sighthounds were Borzoi followed by Salukis. He became involved with Afghan Hounds when his current wife Judy's first Afghan asked if he (the Afghan) could keep him (Garry). He has also owned an Italian Greyhound, Ibizan Hounds, and Greyhounds, as well as having finished the conformation championships on multiple Pharaoh Hounds, Irish Wolfhounds, and Whippets as a handler. Garry and Judy are best known for their Salukis, which have excelled in the conformation show ring (BIS as well as multiple group I’s and other group placements), lure coursing (#1 in the nation as well as multiple years in the top 10), obedience (HIT at the SCOA National as well as nationally ranked), and junior showmanship (multiple Best Junior awards as well as top Saluki junior handler many years), but most importantly as, as companions. Garry has judged lure coursing since the mid-70's and served on the first AKC lure coursing advisory board. He was grandfathered in as one of the first set of AKC lure coursing judges. He has judged the ASFA II and the AKC National as well as lure coursing and conformation for multiple National Specialties. Garry is approved to judge the Hound, Herding, and Working Groups as well as Best in Show in the conformation world.

JUDGE BIO: CHRISTIE BEETZ My first dog title was a CD with a Great Dane in 1973. At these obedience trials I was introduced to

the most exquisite creature...the whippet. My first whippet took over my home and introduced me to lure coursing in 1978. He finished his ASFA FCH. in 1980. He earned a Dog World award from Novice B and was the first of two of my whippets to finish their CDXs and compete at the Gaines National Obedience Competition. In 33 years of being owned by whippets, I've bred two litters securing an ROMX on the brood bitch. Other accomplishments include winning the 1996 AKC National Lure Cours-ing Championship, 2011 #1 AKC coursing whippet and sighthound , BOB at the 2011 American Whippet Club AKC National Lure Course, 3 whippet BOB wins at ASFA International Invitationals, many multiple BIF whippets, a multiple High in Trial winning whippet and numerous AKC FChs and ASFA LCMs, up to an LCM 7. I have been an active ASFA judge since 1992. I was the number one ASFA judge for 2005, 2007 and 2008. I have judged in all 10 ASFA regions, the ASFA Interna-tional Invitational twice, the AKC coursing nationals twice and the following breed Na-tionals: Afghan, Basenji, Borzoi, Greyhound, Ibizan, Irish Wolfhound, Pharaoh, Saluki and Whippet. Currently I have many whippets (addictive lil’ devils) an Italian Grey-hound, retired track Greyhounds and a Catahoula Leopard Dog mix. I served as the ASFA Region 2 Director from 2006 thru 2009. For 34 years I have worked as trial secre-tary for ASFA clubs and also for AKC clubs since the beginning of AKC coursing. While not pursuing dog interests I enjoy traveling to out of the way places. This past year the Amazon jungle, western Costa Rica and Europe were some of my adventures.

JUDGE BIO: ROBERT GOODERL I came to the world of purebred dogs relatively late compared to most. Acquiring my first basenji in 2002, after assuring the breeder that I had no desire to show or participate in any AKC sponsored events, I participated in my first dog show and I was “hooked.” And I have been active in AKC and CKC confirmation events ever since. I was introduced to lure coursing a short time later through the Evergreen Basenji Club (EBC) and their fantastic members who took the time to teach me all aspects of AKC and ASFA lure coursing trials. My dogs are active in both AKC and ASFA lure trials and have achieved coursing titles, BIF/SBIF and been nationally ranked. I currently have one dog who is still crazy about the sport and participates, in veterans of course, at 11 ½ years of age! Since 2003 I’ve been active in the sport of lure coursing and have held all AKC (and ASFA) field positions in trials (except lure operator). I was approved as an AKC Lure Coursing Judge in 2011 and am a Past President, Vice President and Secretary of the Evergreen Basenji Club (EBC), current member of the Basenji Club of America, Route 66 and Show Me Basenji Clubs and past show chair of the EBC Basenji Specialty. In 2012 I took a new job and relocated to St. Louis which has introduced me to many new lure coursing enthusiasts (both dogs and humans!). Past lure judging assignments include: Cascade Coursing Club, Evergreen Basenji Club, Willamette Valley Basenji Club, Chintimini Kennel Club, Coursing Hounds of Iowa, Greater Twin Cities Afghan Club, Tulsa Sighthound Association, Northwest Arkansas Kennel Club, OKI Gazehound Association of Ohio. I’m honored and thrilled at the invitation to be on the field with your hounds, judging their performance and being part of their/our love for this sport.

JUDGE BIO: TARI PARISH I got my first basenji in 1980 and my second just a year later. After starting out in the show ring, I was soon introduced to coursing. My first basenji, King, felt that running around after a plastic bag was beneath his royal name. But Christie, my second basenji thought that coursing was just about the best thing ever! Her first weekend out she went BOB both days in a full field of basenjis and got 40 points to her ASFA FCH title. In 2 more weekends, she was finished and I was hooked. I started apprentice judging in 1985 under such judges as Bob Mason and Garry Newton. I finished my requirements for my all breed license in 1988. I have had the honor of judging the 1994 II in Colorado, and following the AKC inclusion of Lure Coursing, I had the privilege of judging the 1996 AKC National in Ft. Worth, TX. I have enjoyed judging for both ASFA and AKC lure coursing and hope to continue judging for quite some time.

Meadowbrook Farm is a unique and beautiful historic site, over 400 acres of open space and woods. It is preserved by a trust for public use. It is also home to a herd of 60-70 wild Roosevelt Elk who remain in the woods during the day but who come out to graze in the open space (one of which is our field) during the night. For this reason we must complete all runs before dusk. We must ask that you be prepared to be in the paddock or close at hand when your breed/course is called. Please, if you are running multiple hounds and are alone, ask for help so we can keep the trial running along smoothly.

NOTE: It will be required that all dogs who are camping with their owners must be kept inside at night. Inside means in your car, motor home or tent. NO dogs may be left in ex-pens overnight, covered or not. This is for your safety, your dogs’ safety and the safety of the Elk. If you cannot conform to this rule we require that you choose motel lodging or the campground in Fall City listed under accommodations.

JUDGE SELECTION and RULES PERTAINING TO JUDGES 1. Judges shall be selected by the Event Committee and approved by The AKC Performance Events Department. 2. There shall be two judges for each stake; except the Breed Finals and the Championship Finals, at which four judges shall officiate. The judges breed assignment shall be selected by random draw on the first day of the NLCC. 3. Judges, members of their immediate family or household, or dogs owned or co-owned by a judge or a member of their immediate family or household may not be entered in the NLCC. 4. Judges shall be reimbursed for reasonable and customary expenses to fulfill their assignment. CHAMPIONSHIP COURSES and RUNNING RULES COURSES: The Championship Committee shall provide two preliminary courses and one Final course for the NLCC. The first and second day courses must be a minimum of 800 yards in length and a maximum of 900 yards in length and these two courses’ yardage should be as close to the same in length as is possible. The courses shall be in close proximity, but should not interfere with each other while running the hounds. The two courses shall be designed to test all abilities of the coursing hound - speed, agility, follow and endurance. The course designs shall be printed in the National Championship premium list. The AKC National Championship course must be approximately 1200 yards in length. The Event Committee shall provide sufficient equipment necessary for the smooth running of the event. RUNNING RULES: 1. Each of the two days of the NLCC shall be a standard AKC Lure Coursing Field Trial, complete with points, placements, Best of Breed and Best in Field. All hounds - unless excused by the Inspection Committee or excused, dismissed or disqualified by the judges - shall run once on each of the preliminary courses. 2. All entered and eligible hounds shall be separated by breed and shall be randomly drawn into three-hound stakes. In the event the number of hounds can not be divided into three-hound courses, one or two hound stakes are permitted. The hounds will be randomly drawn regardless of ownership. The remaining hounds in competition of each breed shall be redrawn after each preliminary course. 3. Following completion of the second day’s trial, the National Lure Coursing Championship Finals will begin. Each breed’s Best of Breed winner from the first and second days’ trials and the hound of that breed, with the highest combined points from both days’ trials that did not win Best of Breed, will be run for NLCC Best of Breed. If one of these eligible dogs should be unable to compete in this qualifying run they shall be replaced with the next highest qualifying dog of that breed. These hounds shall be randomly drawn for position and shall be redrawn after each course. 4. In order to be eligible for NLCC Best of Breed, the hound must have completed both the first and second days’ trials. A hound may enter only one of the NLCC trials but it will not be eligible to run in the NLCC Best of Breed runoff. If a breed is represented by one hound, that hound shall run singularly in the NLCC Best of Breed runoff. 5. The Best of Breeds and Best in Event shall be officiated by all four judges and the dogs will be scored in the normal manner. 6. All hounds running for NLCC Best of Breed - unless excused, dismissed or disqualified - shall run the Best of Breed course. In the event of a Best of Breed tie, the combined points from both days’ trials shall be used to determine the winner. Should a tie still remain, a single run off of the tied hounds shall decide the Best of Breed winner. 7. All NLCC Best of Breed combined winners - except the Italian Greyhound and Portugese Podengo Pequeno - will run for the title of National Lure Coursing Field Champion (NFC) of 2014. These hounds shall be randomly drawn prior to running the final course. 8. The hound with the highest combined score, from the four judges, shall be designated the National Coursing Field Champion for 2014. In the event of a tie, the tied hounds shall be run off to decide the winner.
