Adult Fitness & Sports The Recreation Center is a great place to enjoy fitness classes. The fitness room is air conditioned with a padded floor and large mirrors. Locker rooms and showers are also available. Bring a water bottle and a towel and/or exercise mat for abdominal floor work. Purchase a punch card for use in all classes EXCEPT the Kettlebell classes: 10 classes/$50; 15 classes/$65. Drop In: $6. City residents receive a discount on punch cards. Time/Day

Yoga Basics+

Lori Whiting, NETA. A revitalizing mind/ body workout designed to increase flexibility and strength through basic yoga postures. Cool down period includes imagery exercises for stress relief and relaxation.

TNT – Tighten ‘N Tone+

Lori Whiting, NETA. This class will tighten-up, tone, and define muscles you never knew you had! Resistance tubing, dumbbells, and core conditioning exercises will help you shape up and define your physique while you build muscle, speed up your metabolism and take yourself to the next level.

Yoga

Emily Kerr. Gain greater flexibility and strength in this 60-minute yoga class. We will focus on basic yoga postures, correct alignment, and proper breathing techniques in a non-intimidating and fun environment. Yoga is something that is great to do as your primary form of exercise, but it is also a perfect pairing for other fitness activities and sports that you may enjoy. Join us weekly as we learn more about how yoga fits into our lives and about how our mind and body work together. Students will need to provide their own yoga mat and block, if desired. Yoga straps will be provided.

Yoga

Ed Woods.  The class will include the Hatha yoga concepts of poses (asanas) in a format of: breathing, stretches, flow from one pose to another (vinyasa), and poses held for various lengths of time followed by a final relaxing period at the end of class (savasana).  The purpose of the yoga class is to improve physical fitness, core strength, balance, posture, and flexibility.   Alternative poses will be recommended to reduce discomfort when necessary, and elements of the eight limbs of yoga will be introduced as the class progresses.

Kettlebell Blast         

5 wks/4 wks Michelle Woodward or Elicia Frederes. This new and exciting program uses cross-training principles by mixing up workout routines.  Personal trainer Michelle Woodward leads you through a variety of workouts during each class, including 20 minutes of high aerobic activity that builds strength dynamically using kettlebells and weights, transitions to muscle strengthening with resistance bands, then finishes with Pilates and some Yoga-inspired stretching.  Students will need to bring their own kettlebell. Kettlebells can be purchased in varying weights from Wal-Mart or Big 5.  Beginning students may wish to start with a light 5 or 8 lb weight. No class May 30 or July 4. Adult Fitness & Sports Weight Room



The Recreation Center offers separate weight room and cardiovascular equipment for the community’s use. There are various weight lifting machines including a Hoist V-5 multi-station machine with leg press attachment; a Powertec multi-station machine using free weights, and a Parabody Safety Squat Rack with Lat and Row attachments. Youth 16 years or older may use the weight room with a waiver signed by their parent. Fee: $29/month for an individual/$3 drop in. $49/ family/month. (All prices include 8.6% sales tax)

Racquetball

The Recreation Center has two fully enclosed courts available for play on a reservation or walk-in basis. Courts may be reserved on a first come basis two days in advance during prime time hours, or day of play by phone or in person. Court time can be scheduled from 8a-7p Mon-Thu, and 8a-5p Fri. No black-soled shoes or street shoes are allowed on the courts.

Fees: $8 per hour or a 10-hour punch card for $70. Racquets and balls available for rent for $1 per hour.

Wally ball

A fast game of volleyball on a racquetball court, this game is for 6-8 people, and is gaining interest and participation in the area. Reservations are made similar to racquetball, by calling in a reservation for a court and the equipment. A complete set of rules is also available. Fees: $10 per hour/or $85 for 10 hours. (All prices include 8.6% sales tax).

Zumba

Charity Lucena, Certified ZUMBA Fitness Instructor. Ditch the work out. Join the party! The ZUMBA Fitness program is a dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements, creating a dynamic, exciting, exhilarating and effective fitness system. It combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body using an aerobic/fitness approach. By integrating some of the basic principles of aerobic, interval, and resistance training, it maximizes calorie output, cardiovascular benefits, and total body toning. Dancers and nondancers alike immediately and easily master the classes because previous dance experience is not necessary. Shoes with a rounded sole are recommended. North Olympic Discovery Marathon & the Seattle Rock-n-Roll Marathon: Half Marathon

Michelle Woodward. Completing a half marathon can be a very empowering and even life-changing experience! If you’ve ever thought about running one and just don’t know how to get started, then this class is for you. Class will meet weekly on Tuesdays to discuss training schedules and progress with a group run scheduled for Sunday mornings. This is your opportunity to achieve your goal of a marathon while learning about fitness, nutrition and physiology. You’ll work with local marathoner and coach, Michelle Woodward, who has completed 6 marathons, including Boston, numerous half marathons, both road and trail, as well as one ultra marathon. She’s run the Seattle Half Marathon in November for the last six years in a row. It’s a great way to be fit and ready for the summer. Completing the marathon is the icing on the cake...the training is where it’s at! Participants will receive a daily schedule to follow that moves them from day one right to the final day at the marathon. Runners, walkers, and joggers are all welcome. The best way to learn how to sail is in a fun and responsive centerboard dinghy. If you have always wanted to learn how to sail or perhaps improve your skills and gain confidence, we have a class for you. This U.S. Sailing certified course is for sailor’s ages 17 and older. It will include a swim test and capsize recovery practice in the pool and sailing time in 14-foot Lido, F.J. or Laser 2 class centerboard dinghies. Each class will be both beginner and intermediate level and will include man-overboard drills, docking, weather and other skills useful for sailing any size boat. Register early, as class size is limited. Participants must provide their own Coast Guard approved lifejackets. Tom Sheehy. A method of self-defense that does not rely on physical strength or size. The emphasis is on basics and natural body movement, this leads to a good posture and a sound self defense structure for the student, building self awareness and self confidence. The aerobic content of the classes help and improve fitness and the general well being of the student. Aikido is a responsive art in which the practitioner uses off-balances and an attacker’s own strength and momentum to gain control instead of attempting specific techniques to prevail. This class is for any woman seeking a realistic command of basic self defense, but requires no prior training, physical conditioning or previous Martial Art experience.
