3.1. Operating environmental conditions The labelling machine has been designed in order to operate in a close and dry environment; furthermore the machine must not operate in environments with explosive atmosphere, in dusty environments or where corrosive gases can be detected The operating environmental conditions are: temperature

10÷40 °C

humidity

15÷80% without condense

Whenever the environmental conditions are particularly severe, it is advisable to equip the room with a fit conditioning plant so that humidity and temperature levels are within acceptable limits. In order to get a perfect adherence of the labels on the products, the operating environment must not be humid.

3.2. Air noise produced by the machine All measures have been performed at about 1 m from the machine and at about 1,5 mt height. The detection of the air noise, has been performed according to the ISO 6081 (1986) rule, using a class 1 integration phonometer according to the IEC 651 and IEC 804 rules. The continuous acoustical pressure level equivalent measured at A emitted by the machine, is lower than 70 dB(A), when the machine is equipped with passive mechanical application devices. The maximum acoustical pressure value corresponds to 80 dB(A) and has been detected at the pulling unit of the label support silicone band. The measurement has been performed on a machine equipped with application device type articulated labelling tongue in normal operation conditions.

3.3. Machine description The labelling machine is an automatic application machine fit for the solution of any labelling problem. This machine is an high precision device that enables, by means of a wide range of applicators, to label any kind of product (bottles, tanks) ensuring high quality results. The machine is pretty compact an modular, in order to enhance its insertion and moving on already existing lines. The whole essential functions of the labelling machine are included in a single control unit (it depends if the labelling machine is inserted in a system or not), or in a control panel. Please refer to the related section of this manual for the description of these functions. The labelling machine can be equipped with different kind of applicators according to the type of product to label, to the related position of the product according to the labelling machine and the position of the label on the product. The different kind of applicators are described in the related manuals. Furthermore it is possible to print on the labels with of a hot printing unit described in the related manual. The labelling machine can be installed in complex plants: the communication with other machines is ensured by an alarm contact (clean) which can operate at up to 24 V DC (with maximum current capacity of 0,4 A). This contact is normally open, and closes when an abnormality is detected in the labelling machine; therefore it can be used to diagnose possible problems and take the necessary measures.

12

MTE16240GB

3.3.1. Evolution with Power Kit description It is a machine able to print in a monochromatic way and to stick the labels in real time. It can operate both with the thermal conveyance or with the direct thermal ( using the properties of a special band called RIBBON) , so it is able to overprint on every kind of paper or synthetic material with high definition ( 8 or 12 dots per mm.) as texts, bar codes graphics and symbols. It is possible to print writings, bar codes and graphics too, giving the longitudinal and transversal orientation related to the label. To obtain the best quality and resistance results it is important to find the right coupling between the label material and the RIBBON. ARCA ETICHETTE, following its long experience in the overprint field, is able to help you in making the right choices through its Client service Office. It can be equipped with different kind of applicators according to the type of product to label, to the related position of the product according to the labeller and the position of the label on the product. For a detailed description of the labelling tongue , part of the machine equipment, see the specific section on the manual.

4.1. General information The labelling machine is composed by a set of elements built and assembled with extreme care and accuracy: therefore it is necessary to pay the greatest attention in handling the machine, both when packed and later. Furthermore it is important to remove with extreme accuracy the packaging, avoiding damaging it. While lifting and transporting the machine: • avoid unbalancing the loading: rise the machine, setting the lift-truck blades in the position indicated on the packaging or using chains fixed as indicated on the packaging; • do not pass under or stop under hanging loads. Check that the packaging is perfectly in order before opening it.. Should the packaging be injured or damaged, immediately contact ARCA ETICHETTE S.p.A.

!

ATTENTION! The weight of the packed machine is written in the shipping document.

4.2. Transport and moving of the labelling machine without packaging The labelling machine without its packaging must be transported with extreme care as the protection structures have been removed. Since the labelling machine is not too heavy, it is possible to carry it by hand, paying attention not to grasp it on the points indicated in the picture.

18

MTE16240GB

4.3. Stocking of the packed labelling machine The packaging of the labelling machine is enough to protect it from dust and other elements that could damage it: therefore it is enough to stock it, packed, in a dry place. For a correct stocking of the labelling machine it is necessary that the original packaging is undamaged and closed. To avoid damaging the packaging and therefore compromising the conditions of the labelling machine, do not set other objects over the packed labelling machine.

4.4. Stocking of the labelling machine without packaging When storing the labelling machine in case of long stillstand periods: • switch off the main switch of the control unit; • whenever possible, remove the supply cable; • remove the pneumatic supply (if any) and drain off the possible condensation in the filter by means of the drain valve; • clean thoroughly the whole machine using fit solvents • grease the moving parts other than stainless steel or brass ones (generally the worm screws); • remove the label coils from the coil-holders and the support silicon stripes from the take-up rollers; • let the pulling rollers open using the related lever; • store the labelling machine in a dry place; • while setting the labelling machine pay attention not to lean it on the transport rollers, on the pulling rollers or on the detaching device to avoid damaging the paralle-lism of the machine.

6.7. Adjustment of the decoiling brake.............................................................34

29

MTE16240 GB

6.1. Setting the label on the product The machine must be centred on the product to be labelled (according to the needs) both horizontally and vertically, acting on its support. The position adjustment of the labelling machine must be performed according to the kind of application device. An electronical label pre-ejection adjustment device is mounted on the control unit. The pre-ejection is adjusted bycontrol unit; see the control unit section for more details. It is possible to evaluate the effect of the adjustment only after having performed at least to dummy ejections. The correct pre-ejection value is strictly connected to the kind of application device employed; refer to the application device manual for more details.

6.2. Micro-switch adjustment Perform the following operation to adjust the label positioning micro-switch: • loose the thumbscrew and pull the micro-switch;

• lift the plug and insert the labels ensuring that the micro-switch is set on a label;

• feed the labels by hand until the micro-switch is between two labels; the led set on the micro-switch must switch on;

30

MTE16240 GB

• should the led fail to switch on, introduce a socket head spanner (2 mm) in the hole of the adjustment device in order to change the pressure of the balancing device which detects the space between labels;

• for a further check make the labels go back and forth by hand: the led set on the micro-switch must switch on when it is on the space between two labels, and go off when on a label;

6.3. Photocell adjustment In order to adjust the labels positioning photocell, perform the following procedures: • Insert the label tape in such a way that the marker of the optical axis lies on the free bearer or between labels;

• press the button until bpth LEDs flash simultaneously. • release the button. Teach-in has started. Leds flash alternatingly. • Briefly press button again. Teach-in is finished. • Green LED illuminates. Sensor is ready.

31

MTE16240 GB

6.4. Adjustment of the transport roller pressure In case of wrong feed of the labels (wrong application during the labelling) perform the following indications: • disconnect the power supply and pneumatic if it foresees; • unhook the transport roller; • loose the two lock nuts by a socket wrench, then by a setscrew wrench adjust the pressure of the springs; • fix the two lock nuts.

• To check the adjusment insert two stripes of silicone paper on the roller end, hook the pulling roller and verify if the tension of the stripes is the same.

6.5. Adjustment of the sensor for end of roll The end-of-roll device (optional), enables to warn the user when the label coil is approaching to the end

1

1

In order to adjust this device, perform the following operations: • Set a label coil with few labels, (as much as it is necessary to switch on the end of coil alarm) • Loose the handle (1) • Slide, vertically, the support until the photocell read the external diameter of the coil then lock the handle (1).

32

MTE16240 GB

6.6. Adjusting the dandy roll stroke reading sensor (Power Kit) The double dandy roll (C), which moves inside the sliding slot, must start and stop the labels print This system ensures the continuous tensioning of the labels band and the distribution of labels at a speed other than the print speed. The adjustment is carried out by loosening the screws (A) and (B) and moving the saddles inside the suitable slot. Behind the saddles are two inductive proximity sensors which read a bar fixed on the sliding pins of the dandy roll.

A C B

6.6.1. Adjusting sensor B (low position) The low position sensor B enables the “Product frequency too high” alarm. Such alarm is activated when the distribution/application frequency is too high with respect to the frequency set on the printer. The alarm can be reset by pressing the key R on the control panel of the control unit. The sensor must be adjusted in such a position (usually, a low position) that the labelling machine stops as soon as it reaches the sensor, thus avoiding “tearing off” the labels from the printer. When the alarm is activated, the printer will go on distributing the labels for 5 seconds in order to allow the dandy roll to go up again.

6.6.2. Adjusting sensor A (high position) The high position sensor A must start and stop the print of the labels. The output contact of this sensor is opposite with respect to that of sensor B (sensor A = N.C. contact, sensor B = N.O. contact). The signal to the printer, which enables the print of the labels, is disabled when sensor A reads the dandy roll.

!

ATTENTION: when the print signal to the printer is disabled, the printer ends printing the label in progress, thus letting the dandy roll go up. Therefore, especially for very long labels, sensor A must be positioned in the high point of the slot, which allows the recovery of a label.

For a correct working of the labelling machine, the band of the labels must always be tensed around the rolls If sensor A is incorrectly adjusted and the band of labels is not tensed, the same band may break during distribution or the application may be imprecise. NB: Sensor A is disabled after 5 seconds from the last label distributed. Thanks to this, it is possible to avoid that someone, while moving the dandy roll manually, prints some labels when the band of labels is not tensed around the rolls.

33

MTE16240 GB

6.7. Adjustment of the decoiling brake The decoiling brake is well adjusted if, during the dispensing phase of the label, the reel is carried out freely without that the motor is excessively stressed. To adjust the braker proceed as follows • Loosen the screws(1) and remove the disk (2)

2

1 1

The labelling machine has been designed and built in order to reduce as much as possible the necessary maintenance and to ensure a correct functioning during the years without problems.

!

ATTENTION! Before performing any maintenance intervention on the machine it is necessary to switch it off and disconnect the electrical supply and possibly also the pneumatic one.

8.1. Ordinary maintenance In order to maintain a perfect efficiency the labelling machine it is enough to use it in the correct way and perform the ordinary maintenance intervention as described below.

!

ATTENTION! All ordinary maintenance intervention must be performed by trained personnel well informed on the right and secure operating method on the machine.

8.2. Control of the efficiency of the security devices If th emachine is equipped with a moving shed it is necessary to verify monthly the efficency of its interblock. For this purpose open the shelter when the machine is operating and verify that all operating electrical and pneumatic parts stop.

8.3. Cleaning

!

ATTENTION! Never clean the labelling machine using water jets.

For a correct functioning of the machine it is necessary to clean it periodically using the correct solvents. It is important to verify that no labels or glue are on the transport roller or on the knurled roller: in case they were dirty, clean them avoiding to use metal objects.

8.3.1. Cleaning of the photocells The photocells must always be clean so that the optical group operates correctly; to clean the photocell do not use any solvent and do not use metal objects.

8.3.2. Cleaning of the knurled and rubber rollers In order to clean the labels transport the knurled and rubber rollers:

1

• check that the electrical voltage is disconnected and that the pneumatic valve is closed; • unhook the pulling roller(1); • clean the rollers and remove residual labels; • reset the pulling roller (1).

8.4.Varius adjustment For further adjustment refer to the following paragraphs: Cfr-6.1.
