General description Functional

Microtower

Microtower is a unit for peripheral devices communication via fiber optics with the computer. The Microtower is approved for use in compliance with the Swedish RÖS U1 regulations. Microtower can be configured with up to three 5.25” standard devices . Example of peripheral devices: DVD/CD RW Floppy Disc Drive Memory Card Reader Smartcard-Reader PC-card Hard Disc Drive One standard 5.25” standard slot can be shared by physical smaller devices. Fiber optics is used for communication between computer and Microtower, with either USB1.1, USB2.0 or SCSI as protocol. SCSI is mainly used for computers with operating systems not supporting USB. Emanation protection is achieved mainly by tight Faraday cages. The intention is that system and mechanics easily can be modified and updated for future needs of new devices and functions. The computer can be one of Fibersystems RÖS U1 approved types, or a computer connected via Fibersystems RÖS U1 approved DVI workstation, (USB1.1), or any other computer connected via Fibersystems USB to fiber links, for example 45-331. Microtower can also be connected to other computers/devices using Icron fiber protocol for USB1.1 or USB2.0. 5

The USB to fiber converter 45-331 can be connected to any computer with an USB2.0 port. This function/product can also be used in applications without RÖS-demands, in order to move peripheral devices at a distance from the computer. For example for daily backup-tape device easily accessible by reception desk or for the security responsible persons workplace while the computer /server is placed in a server room.
