General description Functional
PC Arbetsstation 21”
Microtower
PC Workstation 21” is a en complete desktop computer. The workstation is designed to not give any compromising emanation of data or signals. The system is approved for use in compliance with the Swedish RÖS U1 regulations. The computer and monitor are combined in a metal chassis. By the use of techniques from mobile computers, high capacity at low heat dissipation is achieved. No fans are needed, giving a quiet working environment. The computer has a removable 2,5” hard disc drive in form of a caddy.

More peripheral units, DVD/CD, Floppy disc drive, hard disc drives, card reader and more, can be attached to the computer using an external unit – the Microtower. Fiber optics are used for communication between computer and Microtower, either with USB2.0 or SCSI as protocol. Keyboard and mouse are directly connected to the computer, all other interfaces are fiber optical. Up to 6 fiberoptic interfaces can be present depending on model.

Number of and function of fiberoptic ports are application depending and/or customer specified. Every 21”PC-model has it own partnumber. Possible interfaces/ports are: USB2.0 Normally used for communication with Microtower. SCSI Communication with Microtower, alternative to USB2.0. 10BaseFL 10Mbps Ethernet on fiber. 100BaseFX 100Mbps Ethernet on fiber. 1000BaseSX Gigabit Ethernet on fiber. COM1 Serial on fiber. COM2 Serial on fiber. COM3 Serial on fiber. Parallel, LPT Parallel interface, ”Centronics” on fiber. Future options: Sound DVI
TOSLink on 1mm plastic fiber. Possibility to connect an external monitor via fiber. 6

Example of configuration of fiberports.
Emanation protection is achieved mainly by tight Faraday cages. The intention is that system and mechanics easily can be modified and updated for future needs of new interfaces and functions. The monitor is a 21” TFT monitor with resolution 1600x1200@60Hz.

Microtower is a RÖS U1 approved unit for peripheral drives communicating with the 21”PC via fiber with either USB2.0 or SCSI as protocol. Three standard 5.25” mounting slots are available. Example of peripheral drives: DVD/CD RW Floppy Memory card readers Smartcard-reader Hard disc drives. One standard 5.25” slot can be shared with other physical smaller units. 11

To implement a new mouse device always include the cost for a new RÖS U1 investigation. Cables. Cables for 21” PC keyboard and mouse are parts of the emanation protection system and can NOT be exchanged with other types of cables. Keyboard and mouse cables are parts included in the 21” PC delivery. Fibersystem can deliver all the cables that may be used in your system.
Fibercables. Present 21” PC systems use multimode fibers. All the fiberports are of the type LC. Microtower fiberport is also multimode and LC. Other fiber optic cables for connection to Local Area Networks or similar can vary depending on premises network and type of units.
