2012 Summer Camp Brochure – Hoover YMCA “Free to be Me!” Letter from the Childcare Director With the Hoover YMCA, you are participating in a camping program you can count on, not just for good supervision and safety, but for the personal growth of your child. We work hard to select leaders who will be positive adult role models for your child and who have demonstrated responsibility, maturity, and reliability. Our attention to safety and the campers' health has resulted in a safety record that any organization would be delighted to match. Beyond safety and good supervision, the YMCA believes that special, positive, and growth-filled opportunities await every child who attends the Y Camps. We look forward to providing a quality camp experience for your family. In service, Kara Werner Childcare Director

Why Your Child Belongs at the Y: Our core values. We make our core values—caring, honesty, respect and responsibility—part of everything we do. Our commitment. We plan our programs around essential elements to help kids grow up caring and responsible. We call these elements “Developmental Assets.” Our staff. We are caring, competent and experienced. Our training includes camp safety, activity planning, CPR, First Aid, and more, making your child’s experience both safe and fun. Low camp staff/child ratios. 1:10 entering grades K-3 1:12 entering grades 4-9 Our promise. No child is denied access due to inability to pay. Our pledge. We are dedicated to making you and your child’s experiences at the Y extraordinary. At the end of the day, your child will come home with stories of a fun-filled and fabulous day.

Important Camp Information Meet the Camp Staff and Parent Orientation Dates & Times: Monday, May 21 Thursday, May 24 Sunday, May 27 Location:

6pm 6:30pm 3pm and 5pm

Hoover YMCA

Meet and get to know your child’s summer camp counselors! Parents will have the opportunity to ask all of their questions. Please bring your children to meet and greet the staff.

Camp Locations and Hours Camp programs are based out of the Hoover YMCA, however, most camps will travel off-site several days a week. You may drop off your child at the Y Childcare entrance anytime between 7am and 8:30am. Our program begins at 8:45am and it is imperative for safety reasons that you do not drop off between 8:45am and 9am. Programs end at 4pm each day, and you may pick your child up between 4pm and 6pm at the Y Childcare Entrance.

Bus Stops So that you do not have to wait in carpool each morning and afternoon, you may choose to use our Bus Stop option. You must register in advance to use the Bus Stop as we have limited spaces. It is important that your child be on time for the bus stop. Our buses will only wait 10 minutes at each location. Cost:

$5 per week for members $8 per week for non-members

Lunches, Snacks, and Drinks Campers will need to bring their lunch and two snacks each day to camp unless noted in the camp schedule. Parents are encouraged to pack healthy lunches for their child. Lunches should be packed in an insulated cooler that is easily managed by your child. Refrigeration and microwaves are not available. Please only send your child with water and/or sports drinks. A refillable water is bottle is strongly encouraged.

Weekly Payments and Payment Plans All payments are required to be paid thru electronic funds transfer via a checking account or credit card. Parents who choose to pay weekly will have their account debited the week prior to the camp. We also offer a payment plan that can be tailored to your specific family needs. The most common payment plan is a monthly draft either on the 1st or 15th of each month beginning at the time of camp sign up. Monthly drafts are determined by the total balance due after deposits divided by the number of months remaining until camp ends. For example: If you register in February, your monthly drafts will begin in March and must end by August. For more information on payment plans, please contact Kara Werner at 396-1707 or [email protected].

Which camp do I sign up for? We recommend registering for our Classic Camp Programs which are designed for specific age groups and are a great experience for new and returning campers. Please refer to the highlighted field trip for the specific age group of each week to help you make your decision. If you are interested in an overnight experience, consider the overnight resident camps at YMCA Camp Cosby. As your child attends camp throughout the summer, we recommend registering your child in a variety of camps to expose them to new and different possibilities. Take a look at our Specialty and Sports camps for other wonderful camp experiences.
