OUR NEW PARENTS/CARERS AND GRANDPARENTS INVITED TO LUNCH On Wednesday it was lovely to see so many of our new parents/carers/grandparents who joined pupils in Oak Class for lunch. We hope you enjoyed time spent in school and sampling the lunch prepared by Mrs. Jan Hamer, Cook. HOLLY CLASS VISIT TO CHESTER CATHEDRAL Last Friday, 14th October, Holly Class took part in a Pilgrim Day at Chester Cathedral. The children took part in many activities throughout the day and learnt a lot. They enjoyed a tour of the Cathedral and discovered why pilgrims made that important journey to Chester and what life was like for the monks - they even got to dress like one too! There were many interesting workshops taking place during the visit. They included, bell ringing, sugar craft, calligraphy, falconry, book making and letter art. The highlight of the day was listening to the Cathedral organ and learning about how such powerful sounds are created. The day ended with a special service and prayers and Holly Class was presented with a certificate and a candle which is now in the entrance to our school. Y6 TRANSFERS TO HIGH SCHOOL The deadline date for on-line Secondary education applications 2017 is 31st October, 2016. Failure to submit an application by this date may result in your child being disadvantaged. ADMISSION TO A CHURCH OF ENGLAND HIGH SCHOOL Those wishing to consider a C. of E. High school need to have a worshipping connection with St. Paul’s Church. Every second Sunday of the month an All Age service is held at 10:30 a.m. You are especially welcome to join us at this or any other service – Rev. K. Howard. SIBLINGS STARTING SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2017 If you have a child born between 1st September 2012 and 31st August 2013, from September 2016 you need to apply for a school place before 15th January 2017. You can either apply online at www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/admissions or telephone 0300 123 7039 to request a ‘Starting School 2017-18’ booklet which contains an application form. BEHAVIOUR POLICIES We are currently reviewing Behaviour policies throughout the school and it is important to us that parents/carers are informed of behaviour strategies and sanctions in place. It is vital that pupils, parents and teachers are working together to ensure that our school continues to be a happy and safe environment for all. Teachers will be talking to the children about behaviour, expectations and classroom rules this week and pupils will be given the opportunity to discuss why it is important that these rules are agreed and in place at the start of this new academic year. The children will be informed that good behaviour and a positive attitude towards learning will be recognised and rewarded in a number of ways, including a privilege; an extra playtime at the end of the day on a Friday. If a pupil’s behaviour results in an incident they will lose their privilege playtime and will be given a letter to take home informing parents/carers of this. The letter, when signed, must be returned to the class teacher the following week. Mrs. C. Randa FOUNDATION STAGE AND YEAR 1 – PUPIL PREMIUM FUNDING FS, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to receive a school meal free of charge (Universal Free School Meal). Before the introduction of UFSM, families eligible to apply for a free school meal were required to complete an application form. We still require such applications to be made in order for school to receive Pupil Premium funding. This is extra funding provided to school to spend on resources such as one-to-one tutoring, music lessons, extra-curricular clubs and school trips. For 2016/2017 this amount is £1,300 per pupil. Any child is entitled to a free school meal if their family receives any of the following listed below, therefore, an application form (available from the General Office) must be completed:-

COLLECTING CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL Vehicles collecting children from school must not enter the Staff Car Park and drive up to the front door entrance. In doing so, the only way vehicles can vacate the Staff Car Park is by reversing back onto the public highway which is dangerous during the end of the day – thank you. NUT ALLERGIES We currently have children in school with diagnosed nut allergies. We request, therefore, parents/carers avoid providing snacks and packed lunches containing any nuts, including peanut butter and Nutella etc. We greatly appreciate your cooperation. Thank you.

MID-MORNING SNACKS We follow the Cheshire West and Chester healthy eating programme and encourage our children to choose a healthier option for their mid-morning snack. Please try to avoid or limit the amount of chocolate/crisps and help us to encourage healthier choices. Please visit www.schoolfoodtrust.org.uk/howparentscan help and www.bearnibbles.co.uk .

PARKING FOR BREAKFAST CLUB Could we please request parents/carers not to park in the staff car park when bringing children to Breakfast Club and school as spaces for staff are limited - staff arriving at the same time are unable to park their vehicles. Could we also remind parents/carers to be mindful of our neighbours when parking near school – thank you. CHICKEN POX OR MEASLES Please inform school immediately if there are any cases of Chicken Pox or Measles – thank you. AFTER SCHOOL CLUB PROVISION As our After School Club facility becomes more popular could we remind parents to contact the Club directly to make arrangements for their children to attend. Mrs. Graham is available for a short period at the end of Breakfast Club session, or she can be contacted by text/telephone on the Out of School Club mobile: 0777 6454 141. Thank you. Please inform school as soon as possible on the day if there is a change to the usual person collecting your child from school – thank you. Contact Details: Please inform us immediately of any change of contact details, i.e., mobile/telephone numbers/change of address etc. The large gates at the children’s entrance open from 8:40 a.m. School staff only become responsible for the children from 8:50 a.m. each morning. Should parents wish to arrive earlier than this, then the children must be accompanied by their parent/carer in the yard. Once the side gate is opened by Mr. Bailey, the children will be able to come into school and will be met by their class teacher. Dental or medical appointments: Parents/carers are required to present an appointment card in advance of children being collected during the school day - thank you. Term time absence procedures: In the event that your child becomes ill and is unable to attend school, it is important that parents/carers telephone the school on the first day of absence and leave a message on the School Message Board giving the child’s name, class and reason for the absence (0151 338 2244, Option 1). Please keep school informed if the absence is likely to continue. Other reasons for absence: As you will be aware, Head teachers are no longer able to authorise absence for term time holidays. Please put any requests for absence in writing, including dates for returning to school, should you feel that there are exceptional circumstances to be considered. Punctuality: It is important that children arrive in time to start the day promptly as lessons begin immediately following the taking of the register. Time lost can result in children missing out on an important part of the day, which can be impossible to repeat. Children arriving after that time will be recorded as late and parents must sign children in at the main office. Children arriving after 9:30 a.m. without prior arrangement will be recorded as an unauthorised absence in the register.

Pick up arrangements: Please inform you child’s class teacher, or telephone the school office if a different adult is going to pick up your child after school. This is also important for children attending the After School Club.

PACKED LUNCH If you wish your child to receive a Clever Cat packed lunch parents/carers must request this in writing stating the start date and the length of period this is for – no less than half a term. Without written consent all children requesting lunch will receive the meal as advertised – thank you.
