LUCINDA AND GODFREY We will be having a very special Parent’s Event on Thursday 23 rd April at 9am and 2.15pm to show you the new resources we will be using in school to teach about our Personal & Social Curriculum. They are based upon two characters called Lucinda and Godfrey and they children will get to know these characters as they go through school and they face the difficulties of growing up. For instance, in Reception the children find out about how they feel about starting school and in Year 6 they find out about how their bodies are changing. The lovely Liz Million who came to work with the children in school last year is the illustrator of the series of books. We will have people from the Local Authority who have been involved in introducing the scheme and also some Parents who have been involved in the Speak Easy course that has been running in School. We hope to see you then. We will be publishing information on our website about the program if you can’t make the sessions or we would be happy to speak to individual Parents if need be. There are links below to find out more information: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.337813982904715.84805.209439379075510&type=3 http://www.yourhealthsunderland.com/information-for-professionals/lucinda-and-godfrey/

SENIOR CITIZENS’ TEA It was wonderful to welcome a group of Senior Citizens into school this afternoon for an Easter treat. After a hot cross bun and a hot drink, they were able to look at the children’s decorated eggs and also were serenaded by the Performing Arts Group. A lovely way to end the term. Thank you to everyone who helped organise it.

FRANCE TRIP We will be having a meeting on Tuesday 21st April at 5pm for those children and their Parents/Carer who are going to France in June. We will be going through the itinerary and also kit list. I am sure that you will have lots of questions that we will hopefully be able to answer. We are looking forward to seeing you then.

Y4 FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT This week Year 4 were involved in a football tournament at Rickleton Primary School. They played three games, winning two out of the three games. We won the first game 3:0, the scorers were Roan Hume and Jack Watson (who scored two goals and he was also player of the match). In the second game, we were beaten 3:0 by a very good Rickleton team. Roan Hume was player of the match, as he and the team never gave up. In the final game, we ran out 2:0 winners and it could have been more! A very good team performance, the scorers were Roan Hume and Annabel Green, who was also player of the match. A great start to your time playing for the Colliery!

ATTENDANCE WINNERS Mrs Thomson would like to say a special thank you to all of those children who had their 100% attendance prizes this week. Everyone who was involved in the trips were an absolute credit to the school. Well done everyone. We are all so proud of you.

LONDON OVERNIGHT STAY We are having a meeting for all of those Parents/Carers of children who are going on the overnight London trip. As with the France trip we will be able to go through itinerary and explain what will be happening over the two days. You can ask lots of questions and we have some menus to choose from. We will be staying in Safe Stay Youth Hostel at Elephant & Castle http://www.safestay.co.uk/en/ if you want to have a look at the accommodation. It will be a jam-packed two days with 2 West End shows, a Theatre Workshop, Sightseeing, London Eye and much more.

HAIRSTYLES Just a reminder about hairstyles: as we come into the Easter holiday. There have been a few haircuts, which have been too short in school this week or what could be deemed as extreme (part shaved and some parts much longer). This is the section from the uniform policy regarding hairstyles. We will be contacting individual parents. All long hair should be tied back. Shaved heads (including shaved patterns or motifs) or hairstyles that are deemed by the Head Teacher to be extreme are not acceptable. Full head or ‘chunked’ dying is not acceptable. If in doubt, parents should consult the school in advance.
