KEEPS FOOD SAFE BY TESTING FOR BACTERIA DURING FOOD PROCESSING

HOW IT WORKS Food prep surfaces are swabbed. The swab is placed in the chamber where a chemical reaction occurs which emits light. The amount of light released indicates how clean or dirty the surface is. Results are clearly displayed and recorded.

RESEARCH Construction is dangerous work. In order to fully understand the context and the user needs, we visited a range of construction sites and viewed different activities including traffic control, ironwork, and project engineering. Our goal of making construction workers’ jobs safer distilled down to three driving principles: BE RUGGED – It’s dirty, wet, and cold. Their gear needs to be durable. BE BRIGHT – Workers need to be seen. Safety vests are not enough. BE HANDS FREE – Tasks are varied, and often require two hands. Our observations and the input we received from workers helped us design a simple, intuitive solution. The Halo Light enables workers to both see and be seen.

DESIGN We focused on making the light itself a distinctive brand element. We took a “minimize product, maximize light” approach, reducing the housing and emphasizing the lens. The Halo is part high technology, part rugged tool. Inside the Halo are state of the art, high performance LEDs. Outside is a rugged shell designed to withstand brutal environments and circumstances. Our objective is to create a product that becomes a trusted ally of construction professionals working in low-visibility environments.

ELECTRICAL Pensar electrical engineering designed the LED layout and componentry to maximize light and minimize cost. The lensing is tuned to optimize the way the light is dispersed.

MECHANICAL The mechanical engineering team designed an extremely tough exterior to house the LEDs and components. The Halo Light construction features an IP65 rating which protects the product against driving rain and daily dirt exposure. This is critical for construction use.

SOLUTION

An intuitive, light-weight ring of LEDs that illuminates a worker’s task area and makes him visible to passing motorists and equipment operators.

Spring clips are simply pushed on and pulled off, while holding tightly to the hard hat during use.

A single button toggles through Halo, Hi-Alert, Task and Dim. Safety-release connection to the battery pack

TESTING Abuse testing is on-going. The first round included submerging for one minute, then stomping on it in the mud, then dropping it from a second story window, and then a third story window, then placing it under a heavy toolbox, then running over it with a Jeep – STILL WORKS!

Note: this was all done with the same unit. See the videos here.

WE BUILT IT FROM THE INSIDE OUT Microsoft chose Pensar again to deliver the mechanical engineering for the world’s best gaming console. We’re committed to continuously raising the bar for Microsoft, and all of our clients.

FULL FORCE ENGINEERING Microsoft chose Pensar as the sole mechanical integration and detail partner for the new Xbox console, from the ground up. A few key contributions include: + Design for high-volume manufacturing (20M+ ARU) + Key contributions to the thermal system design and execution + Full ownership of CAD data, production model structure, and details + System shock and vibration analysis, mitigation, solution definition and execution + Guarding of Industrial Design intent + In-depth interaction with tooling design and detailed part manufacturing + Ownership of manufacturing tooling for inspection and assembly + Deep involvement in qualification and testing process of all parts to the full system

ENGINEERING Pensar has also worked with Microsoft on several accessory products such as the Xbox Speed Wheel. 100% of the mechanical design was developed by the Pensar team. A few key contributions include: + + + +

M-TURBO + MICROMAXX S SERIES

Designing + Engineering Imaging Innovation Pensar worked with Sonosite on the design and engineering for the MicroMaxx, Mturbo, Mobile Docking System and S-series, including thermal management and engineering for drop testing..

MOBILE DOCKING SYSTEM

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Turbo-series, MicroMaxx, and NanoMaxx Pensar EE was part of the SonoSite team that developed the detailed system architecture for these state-of-the-art ultrasound systems, including system design, signal optimization and data throughput, Matlab algorithm development, image optimization, and acoustic beam design and analysis.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING Pensar not only delivers above expectations on design, but continues to meet or exceed our expectations on tight deadlines, professionalism on presentations and pro-activity in offering ideas and understanding our brand. Andreea Trufasu - Director of Product Development, Gunnar Optiks

I have been impressed with the level of skill and professionalism they have shown. Several times we ran into a design challenge or resource limitations at the eleventh hour and Pensar, with little notice, came in and allowed the due dates to be met. Steve Bunce - Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Liposonix

Pensar showed us the customer’s true experience with our products, and revealed needs and opportunities that we hadn’t considered. Mark Denis - Ozone International

Pensar's team members are constructive, open minded and can handle any R&D environment where ambitions, budget/schedule constrains and manufacturability are a constant battle. They are extremely efficient and detailed when it comes to modeling complex surfaces in 3D. It is a pleasure working with them. Uli Rankers - Director Industrial Design Engineering at Medtronic and former Director at Philips Electronics
