Visual referral report, completed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist, must be approved by a MVS.

Requirements for Removal Client must: •

Complete a vision screening without corrective lenses; see Medicals/Visions – Section 3.05.05.

Client must: •

Provide proof that their fitness to operate a motor vehicle has improved. ◊

Road test may be required.

Medical report must be approved by a MVS.

Periodic Medical



QR 3.3

A Driver Examiner has reported a client has a degenerative medical condition or borderline driving habits that affect their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Client must pass a road test. ◊

The first road test is provided at no charge.



Subsequent road tests will be assessed a fee.

Client must: •

Submit a written request and a medical to AT, Driver Fitness & Monitoring for review and approval. ◊

AT, Driver Fitness & Monitoring may request a special medical.



Road test may be required.

Client must: •

Submit an ophthalmologist or optometrist report to AT, Driver Fitness & Monitoring indicating the vision condition has improved or has been corrected to the point where monitoring is no longer required.

Client must: •

Demonstrate to a driver examiner through a road test that monitoring of their driving skills is no longer required.



Submit a medical to AT, Driver Fitness & Monitoring for review and approval in the case of a medical condition.

** This condition code/endorsement will not appear on the driver's licence.

Explanation of Condition Code / Endorsement Reenrollment Required Clients who are temporarily out of the province and require a replacement licence. For example:

Requirements for Removal A client must: •

Surrender their Code F licence within 14 days after returning to Alberta.



Students attending an accredited school, college or university on a full time basis outside of Alberta.





Missionaries working for an Alberta based organization outside of Alberta.



Contact their District Office to have the Code F removed.



Alberta residents temporarily vacationing outside of Alberta.



Issue a replacement licence or a renewal.

Provide proof of Alberta residency and acceptable identification. A registry agent must:



Military personnel and families stationed outside of Alberta. The client must meet the residency requirements, see Residency – Section 3.05.01 and provide the following documents: •

Acceptable identification, see Acceptable Identification/Enrolment – Section 2.05.02.



A medical report and/or vision screening may be required.



A signed letter of explanation for the request.



The date the client left Alberta and the expected return date.



Current Alberta address.



Mailing address and instructions for the delivery of the licence.



Required fees.



Supporting documents to provide proof of student status or missionary organization or any other documents that prove the client may qualify for the Code F licence. The request must be forwarded to your District Office.

Daylight Driving Only

Client must:



AT, Driver Fitness & Monitoring has determined a client has a vision condition, which may affect their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.





Visual referral report, completed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist, must be approved by a MVS.



Both Outside Mirrors •

Client has restricted neck movement and is unable to shoulder check.



Client has total loss of hearing.



Client has vision restrictions.



Medical report/vision screening must be approved by a MVS.

Automatic Transmission • Client has lost the use of one or more limbs and is restricted to operating a vehicle equipped with automatic transmission.

Meet the minimum vision requirements for an unrestricted licence through a vision screening.

or Submit an ophthalmologist or optometrist report to AT, Driver Fitness & Monitoring indicating the vision condition has improved or has been corrected to the point where monitoring is no longer required.

Client must: • Pass a road test. and/or •

Submit a medical report and/or vision screening to AT, Driver Fitness & Monitoring to prove the restriction no longer applies.

Client must: •

Pass a road test in a vehicle with standard transmission. ◊

Vehicle may be equipped with a mechanical device.

or ◊

Adequate Hand Controls •

Client has lost the use of one or more limbs and is restricted to operating a vehicle with hand operated mechanical devices.

Alberta Transportation Safety Board (ATSB) Review •

Client may use a prosthetic device to replace a missing limb.

Client must: •

Pass a road test in a vehicle that is not equipped with hand operated mechanical devices.



ATSB will review and remove Code M when monitoring is no longer required.

Client’s driver’s licence has been reinstated; however, continued monitoring is required by ATSB.

** This condition code/endorsement will not appear on the driver's licence.

Requirements for Removal

Excludes Class 2 and 4 Operation Due to a medical condition the holder of a Class 1 licence is not allowed to operate vehicles in the Class 2 and 4 licence categories.

QR 3.3

Client must present a copy of the Notice of Driver Education Course Completion form TRANS0047 ƒ A photocopy of the Notice of Driver Education Course Completion form TRANS0047 must be submitted for microfilming, original is returned to client. Airbrake endorsements on other Canadian licences are recognized in lieu of an Airbrake Endorsement Certificate.

The Airbrake “Q” Endorsement is included in the Class 1 licence category; therefore, it does not appear on the Class 1 driver’s licence.

School Bus Endorsement •

Client successfully completes a School Bus Endorsement Program. ◊

Client must present a School Bus Endorsement Certificate.



A copy of the School Bus Endorsement certificate must be submitted for microfilming, original is returned to client.



Merit Credits will be accepted for 2 years from the date the course was completed.



A credit of 3 points must be entered on the client’s driving record when there are at least 2 demerit points assessed against them.

Completed Driver Course •

Client successfully completed a Driver Education Course. ◊





Client must present a Driver Education Course Certificate.

The Notice of Driver Education Completion (ATU/047) form must indicate: ◊

15 hours of classroom instruction.



10 hours in car instruction for clients holding a Class 7 or class 5 GDL licence during training.



6 hours in car instruction for clients holding a non-GDL class 5 licence or better.

Driver Education 10 Course card (ATU/3181) must indicate: ◊

30 hours of classroom instruction.



10 hours of in car instruction.



The Saskatchewan Department of Education, Driver Education Program Certificate qualifies for the Alberta Code U. A copy of the Driver Education Course certificate must be submitted for microfilming, original is returned to client.

Requirements for Removal

Professional Driver Designation •

Client has successfully completed the Professional Driver Certificate Program.



The Professional Driver Certificate Program consists of:





Classroom learning.



One-on-one behind the wheel training.



Supervised practicum with a driver coach.



Paid co-op work experience with a cooperating trucking company.

AT, Driver Programs and Licensing Standards (DPLS) will update MOVES with the Professional Driver designation and forward the client a letter with instructions for obtaining a new operator’s licence with the Professional Driver designation.
