Victor Central School District Aquatic Center Addition Community Enrichment In one of the fastest growing communities in New York State, the Victor Central School District recognized the need for a new state of the art aquatics center. Appreciating the importance of water safety in the Finger Lakes region, the Victor CSD committed itself to constructing a new high-performance natatorium. The facility serves not only the School District students but is open and accessible to the entire community. Seamlessly integrated into the campus, the centrally located Aquatics Center serves all the campus schools while allowing independent operation by the community before and after the school day. The new center was designed to meet the needs of a highly competitive swim program and to replace a perpetually leaking 1963 pool facility. The aquatics center addition includes a 420,000 gallon competition swimming and diving pool which can be adjusted into five lane configurations for various competitions. A moving bulkhead both travels the entire length of the pool and allows micro adjustment to convert from 25 yard races to 25 meter races.
Advanced Control and Environment The pool which can accommodate 323 recreational swimmers has an advanced chemical treatment system including ultraviolet light filtration. The system controls combined chloramines dramatically improving indoor air quality for both athletes and spectators. Acoustics are controlled with a combination of roof form and acoustic metal deck spanning roof trusses painted in the District’s colors. Significant expanses of South and East glazing along with a central clearstory provide wonderful daylighting and spectacular views. Safety is improved in the natatorium by removing spectators from the pool deck as well as by a motion sensor system alerting staff of anyone entering the natatorium when not in use. By focusing on the end user experience, the Victor CSD created a space unlike most school facilities. The Aquatics Center is a high technology facility with a dynamic, pleasant, and comfortable atmosphere.
Given the Town of Victor proximity to so many recreational bodies of water, the Victor CSD believes strongly in water safety education. While other districts are shunning the maintenance, costs, and liability of a pool, Victor CSD has deemed a community pool a priority.

Lighting Design includes a “light pipe” luminaire system with 80’ runs of acrylic tube over the pool with a 1000W metal halide illuminator at each end. The tubes include an optical lighting film on the top half to reflect more light down to the pool. The light pipe system is controlled to provide dual light levels and optimize energy efficiency.
