Vector Aerospace Engine Services - Atlantic Joins Airbus Defense & Space C295 FWSAR Team Airbus Defense & Space and Engine Services - Atlantic (ES-A) recently announced a partnership that promises to help secure aerospace jobs in Prince Edward Island. ES-A will provide Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) PW127 engine maintenance for Airbus Defense & Space’s C295 as part of its bid to replace Canada’s fixed-wing search and rescue (FWSAR) aircraft. Should the C295 be selected for FWSAR, this engine support contract will be worth almost $150 million to ES-A over the 20-year life of the contract.

Vector Aerospace - Asia Breaks Ground An auspicious ground-breaking ceremony for Vector Aerospace’s new Singapore facility was held in mid-November, attended by more than 80 specially invited guests including five ambassadors from various countries.

“Airbus Defense & Space is very proud to celebrate this important partnership with ES-A,” said Antonio Barberán, Senior Vice President for Airbus Defense & Space. “This partnership will help bring long-term high-technology aerospace jobs to Prince Edward Island, in keeping with Airbus’ already outstanding commitment to Canadian content for our aircraft.”

The C295 is the leader in the military search and rescue (SAR), maritime patrol and medium transport market, with 123 aircraft sold to 16 different countries to date. The C295 FWSAR offering boasts substantial Canadian content, equal to about 20% of the aircraft’s value. In addition to the aircraft’s P&WC engines and ES-A support, the C295’s simulators will be built by CAE and its electro/optical sensors by L-3 Wescam, while Discovery Air will provide in-service support for the aircraft over the life of the contract. “ES-A is pleased to partner with Airbus on this important project that will provide benefits to all Canadians,” said Jeff Poirier, President of ES-A. “We are proud to have built a reputation for excellent service and support right here in PEI. Our partnership with Airbus Defense & Space and the business it brings, on a project as important as the FWSAR program reinforces that.” This commitment to the PEI aerospace industry is a part of Airbus’ extensive investment in Canadian industry. Over the past 25 years, Airbus has become an integral component of Canada’s aerospace, defence and advanced technology sectors. Its Canadian operations boast six business units generating over $450 million in annual sales, employing 1,700 people in 11 centres across the country, with an additional 4,000 jobs supported indirectly.

Vector’s new Asia Pacific facility will provide operators of the Bombardier Q400 regional turboprop with a conveniently located, cost-effective MRO location for the PW150A engine, significantly strengthening Vector’s presence in the region. Commenting on the ground-breaking, Declan O’Shea, Vector Aerospace President and CEO, stated: “In our overall business expansion plan, the South East Asian market is extremely important to us due to its geographic location, strong projected growth and our customer base. We recognize the immense importance of this market and are taking Rendition of Seletar facility these steps to expand our presence here with close proximity to our customers. Our new facility will benefit PW150 engine owners and operators in terms of faster turn times, minimized shipping costs and superior customer service.” Philip Ang, an experienced aerospace executive, has already been appointed to be General Manager of Vector Aerospace - Asia, completion of which is scheduled for late 2014. When fully operational, the new facility is expected to employ up to 140 employees in a variety of repair, test, engineering, commercial and support roles

Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services - NA Delivers Fully Refurbished AS332L-1 to Rainier Heli-Lift Inc. Last November, Helicopter Services - NA (HS-NA) was provided with the unique opportunity to restore an AS332L-1 Super Puma that had been damaged during the tsunami which hit Japan in 2011. Rainier Heli-Lift Inc. purchased the aircraft shortly after the incident, and decided to restore it to service by having HS-NA perform a complete overhaul on the aircraft. “The decision to make this MRO agreement with Vector was based on the outstanding support they have provided other operators, and the timing of this project aligned well with Vector’s new AS332L-1 capabilities,” stated Richard ‘Lash’ Laerew, Executive VP, Rainier Heli International. “We were extremely pleased to receive the finished project in late December 2013, and the aircraft is now in full service.” HS-NA performed a number of MRO operations on the aircraft including a complete airframe re-wire, a significant accomplishment requiring over 100 kilometers of wire. A complete 7,500 hour airframe inspection and an internal and external paint job were also performed. HS-NA also performed two main landing gear fitting changes with the assistance of specialists from Airbus Helicopters, who spent five weeks working with Vector Aerospace’s technicians to help them achieve this complex repair within the tight project delivery schedule. “Access to the unique Super Puma market has greatly improved our ability to react quickly to customer requirements,” stated Elvis Moniz, Vice President of Operations at HS-NA’s Langley facility. “Vector has positioned itself in the Super Puma market as a center of excellence for MRO activities in a short amount of time, having processed major inspections on nine Super Pumas this past year.”

Defence Minister visits Vector Aerospace’s Fleetlands site in Gosport Vector Aerospace - UK welcomed Philip Dunne, Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology to its Fleetlands site in Gosport, Hampshire last month. The Minister was given a behind-the-scenes look at the highly skilled work that is carried out keeping the MOD’s fleet of Chinook, Lynx and Sea King helicopters up to operational standard. He also toured the aero engines repair shop, which has diversified into the civil fixed-wing engine market. The Fleetlands facility, which was established during World War 2, employs over 1,000 people and is one of the largest employers in the Gosport area. The site has a long tradition as a centre of excellence for MRO, and has a flourishing apprenticeship scheme. “Helicopters are an essential capability for all three services, and high-quality maintenance is essential to ensure that our fleets are ready to deploy where they are needed in support of operations,” said Mr Dunne. “Sites like Fleetlands have a huge role to play in defence, and I thank the workforce here for their help in ensuring British troops have the top-class equipment they need.” Michael Tyrrell, Managing Director for Vector Aerospace - UK, said: “We are delighted that the Minister was able to see at first hand the skills and commitment that go into supporting the MOD’s rotarywing fleet. While our longstanding position as a key supplier to MOD will continue to be of great importance, we are also developing civil market applications for our skills and experience, capitalising on the flexibility of the workforce here at Fleetlands.”

Vector Aerospace Engine Services - Atlantic Service Praised by Customer in Switzerland The following note was sent to employees at the Engine Services - Atlantic (ES-A) facility in Summerside, PEI from Mr. Johan Kotze, Technical Manager with Aero Management Services (AMS). Helicopter Services - UK hosts the Heads of Flying Once a year, the Heads of Flying for all civilian aviation contractors to the British Ministry of Defence meet with the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) for a two day conference. This year Vector Aerospace’s Fleetlands facility was the chosen venue. The primary aim of the meeting is to discuss how current and planned regulations will affect the industry. With the proposed introduction of sweeping and extensive changes to military aviation regulation, the discussions were certainly robust, with some fairly forthright views being expressed on both sides, eventually reaching amicable – if differing – conformity; after all, the regulator eventually has the final say! Almost every business with a flight test interest in UK was represented, with some 30 civilian contractors including Vector Aerospace, BAE Systems and AgustaWestland. Healthy overseas representation was led by Chief Test Pilots from Airbus Helicopters and Boeing. The MAA military team of some 14 uniformed specialists was led by Air Vice-Marshall Paul Atherton. There was a considerable amount of “business” and discussion in the margins, where any misunderstandings can be resolved, and this was particularly so at the evening social gathering which took place in the more relaxed atmosphere of dining on board HMS Warrior, moored in the Historic Portsmouth Dockyard on the opening night.

Vector Aerospace Showcases Full Range of Service Options at NBAA Convention Engine Services - Atlantic (ES-A) and SECA recently highlighted their broad range of business aviation engine services at the National Business Aviation Association’s (NBAA) 66th Annual Convention and Tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nevada. “2013 was an exciting year for ES-A,” said Jeff Poirier, President of ES-A. “We increased our focus on providing our customers with flexible, innovative ideas for keeping their engines on wing. We also heightened our Mobile Repair Team (MRT) capabilities and coverage worldwide, and we continue to remain focused on offering our customers faster turn times on their engines.” Jean-Jacques Reboul, President (interim) of SECA, added: “NBAA was once again an excellent opportunity to present our extensive portfolio of services, including our GEMS (Global Engine Management Service) program, a combination of support and services aimed at addressing each and every customer specific need through customized solutions.”

Vector Aerospace Celebrates Success at the Singapore Airshow Vector Aerospace exhibited at the Singapore Airshow for the very first time with staff from all divisions present. Each day saw huge crowds visiting the booth to discuss and pursue business opportunities. This fourth edition of the Singapore Airshow 2014, Asia’s largest and one of the most important aerospace and defense exhibitions in the world, kicked off on February 11th at the Changi Exhibition Centre. Singapore’s Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen and Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew launched the week-long event with brief mention of Vector Aerospace in the opening address, and Aviation Week Show News featured an article describing Vector’s new facility in Singapore slated to open later this year. The airshow saw 1,000 exhibiting companies from 47 countries, including more than 60 of the world’s top 100 aerospace companies. Mr Jimmy Lau, Managing Director of Experia Events and the organizer of the airshow, told Bernama News that the airshow is set to be “our biggest yet and promises exhibitors, delegates and visitors an excellent experience.” Not surprisingly, trade deals involving billions of dollars were clinched on the first day of the Singapore Airshow, and organizers proclaimed this year’s total deal dollars could reach up to 70 to 80 per cent of the US$31 billion seen at the previous Singapore Airshow.
