Lesson 1 - Running Main Learning Objective For children to demonstrate accurate movements in running, marching and halting at speed. Resources Hurdles cones line markings Warm up  Jog on spot ‘freeze on command  March on spot (T.P – arms and legs to co-ordinate – demo a slow march and how arms swing in opposition to legs). Change direction.  March around small area on 3 jump once (arms propelling) and shout own name Agility Game Pirates and Sailors (like stuck in mud) Teacher are pirates (shout shiver me timbers). Children are sailors (shout ahoy matee). Children have to run from one side of playground to other. If they get tug they become pirates and help to capture sailors. Agility Drills Put children into 4 teams. Focus on correct march (arm leg c0-ord). Knee high and hands (practice technique of march). Running Skill (sprinting) Run Slow (line of cones) Walk (TP – lean forward on your toes) Hurdles March (2 feet jump) March (2 feet jump) Walk Warm Down March like soldiers around playground and line up. Lesson 2 - Jumping/Landing Main Learning Objective For children to adopt the correct body position for jumping and landing Resources Hurdles cones line markings Warm up  Run on spot ‘freeze on command  Skip (T.P – arms and legs to co-ordinate – demo exaggerated skip)  Jumping for height on command (t.p 2 feet landing bend knees, arms to propel)  Agility Drills Hurdles Put children into three groups (behind set of hurdles). Practice: 1. March over hurdles (practice slow march with arms/ leg co-ord) 2. Sideways step (feet together, big strides so you don’t cross feet over) 3. Jump (take off with both feet impact with bent knees, quiet landings). Repeat but move hurdles further away (with small 2 feet jumps in between). Speed Bounce Jump over, feet together (side to side) set of cones or markers and count each landing. How many in 30 seconds. Partner to count. Long distance jump  How far can you jump (place your marker where you land). Can your partner beat it?  One legged long jump (giant hop). T.P - swing your arms for propelling yourself/ extra power.

Warm Down Different jumping animals – kangaroo (for height), frog for agility, lizard for distance.

Lesson 3 - Throwing/Catching Main Learning Objective For children to adopt the correct body position for throwing and catching

Resources Bean bags cones line markings

Warm up  Cops and Robbers. Cops put robbers in jail (by moving in a skip/ hop/ jog) when they are tagged. Other robbers can free them.  When jailed children practice balancing on one leg (count to 5) and change over.  Ext - introduce a ball and when children in jail they can be released by catching another robbers ball and passing it back.  T.P - Tiger hands for catching the ball or ''W hands by touching thumbs and spreading fingers.  T.P - communicate by shouting name of person you want to free/throw ball to. Agility Drills Throwing relay Put children into four groups (behind each set of cones).

Place each team member next to a cone ready to move to the next cone when they have successfully passed on the ball so that eventually all children will have passed balls up and down the cones until they are back to their original cone. Winning team has all team members standing behind the cone. Races are: 1. Underarm throw 2. Chest pass 3. Bounce pass 4. Any throw we choose as long as we communicate by shouting name of team member. T.P - Think about power of push and distance when doing chest pass.

Give each team member a bean bag in their team colour. Aim for the box - if it misses collect and go to back of line. Winning team is the first to get all their bean bags in the box. Variation - give each team a large amount of bean bags (in their team colour). Set timer for a minute. Take it in turns to throw their bean bag. Winning team has most of their coloured bean bags in the box.

Warm Down Recap on different passes and ask chn to demonstrate to class/ practice. How many time does the ball bounce on a bounce pass? Where does the ball go/ end on a chest pass? Practice each pass with a partner - can they do it 10s without dropping it?

Lesson 5 - Stations Main Learning Objective For children to practice skills of running, jumping, throwing and catching in a series of stations. Resources Hurdles, cones, line marking, bean bag, hoops and markers Warm up  Traffic lights Red - stop Yellow - run on the spot Green - go Blue - police car chase them so go really fast (teacher to chase chn) Speed bump- jump Bridge - bend over (and/or crawl for count of 5) Agility Drills Stations. Put children into four groups: 1. Hop from left to right foot along a series of markers(holding balance on each marker for 5 seconds).

2. Bunny hop over hurdles (two feet together). 3. Shotput beanbag into hoop (from neck, elbow pointing to where we want bean bag to go and push). 4. Weave in and out of markers (also arranged as above) with bean bag on head. Practice going backwards. Warm Down Stretch and shake. Multi Skills – Athletics KS1

Lesson 6 - Mini Olympics Main Learning Objective For children to put all their skills into practice in a end of term intraschool competition. Resources Hurdles, cones, line markings, bean bags, hoops Warm up Jungles on fire - Give children an animal name (monkey/lion/cheetah) children run from one end of playground to the other when their animal is called. If they get past the 'trees' they have made it through the jungle. If not they become a tree and help to capture other animals. When teacher shouts 'jungle on fire' all children (except trees) run. ini Olympic stations Individual achievements:    

Shotput (measure and record for intraschool competition results). Long jump (measure and record). Speed bounce (measure and record) catching (how many without dropping - partners to record joint catches).

Team achievements:  sprint relay  push up relay (lie down on stomach, then push up and run)  bunny hop relay (over cones)  balance bean bag on head (if it falls off start again)  obstacle course : Throw beanbag

Sprint with beanbag

10 speed bounces

Bunny hops

Sprint back to beginning - pass on beanbag

Warm Down Olympic warm down - walk, march, sprint around playground. On command perform an Olympic sport (long jump/ shot-put/ high jump/ relay (run to something and back again at speed). Present winners of individual achievements and team achievements with prizes.
