St. Mary’s Challenge for December FISH—Friends in Service Helping FISH is a global organization providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly. Foxboro FISH has an urgent need for volunteer drivers. If you are looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity, please call Bea O’Hara at 508-543-8549.

Let’s think Confession! Have you been to confession lately? Within the last year? Last 5 years? Do you wish you could but there is something holding you back? This is the time to confront the fear or the discomfort or to make time if you’re too busy….. Take the challenge for December. Follow along with us. By Christmas you will be ready to go to confession.

Do you know what St. Mary’s Prayer Line is? This ministry is made up of volunteers who agree to pray for anyone who asks for help. It’s that easy… Any person may call with a request and it will be added to the Prayer Line. An email will go out to all those volunteers with the specific requests. Privacy is respected and only first names are used or a brief description, such as “a young mother”. Prayer is powerful! If you have any type of request for prayers or if this is something you would like to volunteer for, please call Pat Evans at 543-2166 or call the Rectory at 543-7726.

Prayer to our Lady before Confession: Mary, Mother of Jesus and my Mother, your Son died on a cross for me. Help me to confess my sins humbly and with trust in the mercy of God, that I may receive his pardon and peace. Phew… That was easy.

Our next part will be to learn the prayers said in the confessional. Stay tuned….

Why do we go to confession? We want mercy! We want forgiveness even if our sins are not “big ones”. Confession gives us God’s forgiveness; he is telling us we are forgiven and that we are still loved. Confession strengthens our relationship with God and Jesus. Everyone wants forgiveness. We all want to know we matter no matter what we’ve done. God tells us this each day and especially at confession. So we know what confession is. Now we need to know how to confess. We start by examining our conscience. This basically means to think about confessing. Is there something we did or should have done? Did you go to Mass each week? On the Holy Days of Obligation? Should you have treated a friend/family member better? Another idea is to go through the Ten Commandments. Start at number 1 and really think about each one. If you can’t do it all at one sitting, examine one a day. There’s no time limits. No one needs to be the SuperHuman Catholic…. Just be Catholic… Still not sure what you should be thinking about ? Google “how to go to confession?” Here is a quick prayer to give you the courage and strength to prepare for Confession. Say this each time you are thinking about Confession. It will give you strength.

Help us to Evangelize this Christmas! This year we would like to reach out to the families that come to Mass at Christmas. We want to welcome everyone back to our Parish and our Religion! This is our first step. We would like to give every family attending Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses the book “Resisting Happiness”. This is a book, by Matthew Kelly, that was written specifically to “re-engage disengaged Catholics”. For a $5 donation to our “Evangelize this Christmas”, you will be helping us to purchase three copies of this book; two we will give away to families at Mass and one we will give to you for your library. Our goal is to order 1500 books! We will be collecting donations for “Evangelize this Christmas” book program from now until Dec. 19.
