This document shows how the Arts Council of Wales (ACW) funded the arts in Wales in 1999/00. It also contains the Summary Financial Statements for ACW’s general and lottery expenditure. This document continues by listing grants and guarantees made to artists and organisations through general and lottery funds as well as local authority income. Summary of how ACW funded the arts in Wales in 1999/00 In 1999/00 ACW supported arts activity, projects and facilities through money from the National Assembly for Wales, the European Social Fund and other sources (general expenditure) and the National Lottery.
General expenditure The tables below show how ACW allocated its income in grants to over 1,100 artists and organisations. Some of the organisations funded by ACW, such as the Welsh Amateur Music Federation, Yr Academi Gymreig and Cywaith Cymru.Artworks Wales distribute, in turn, grants to hundreds of artists and organisations throughout Wales. During 1999/00, ACW distributed £31,044,000 of grants to artists and arts organisations. The total value of eligible applications received by ACW was £54,746,047. The summary below also includes ACW’s expenditure on other services and direct promotions to the arts in Wales, e.g. operating Wales Arts International and ACW’s community touring scheme, writers’ critical service and the Collectorplan scheme.
