Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book Section 1 ‐ Welcome to the Tour of Cambridgeshire Golazo Cycling Limited The Golazo Cycling team welcome you to the Tour of Cambridgeshire (ToC). You are about to take part in the event which is re‐defining the mass participation cycle sport scene in the UK and we really hope you enjoy the experience. We have gone to great lengths to create an event experience which gives the masses and many of our competitive elite level riders a real taste of what the best organised events around the world are like for amateurs and professionals alike. Our vision is to create a pro experience for everyday amateur and Master cyclists. The Tour of Cambridgeshire is regarded by the UCI as amongst the best mass participation cycle events in the world. We are delighted that both the Gran Fondo and Chrono are UGFWS events in 2016. We hope to host the UCI World Amateur Championships within this decade, thereby facilitating the opportunity for everyday riders in the most vibrant cycling nation on earth the opportunity to compete for a rainbow jersey on home soil. The Tour of Cambridgeshire is not just about the riders at the front of the age classifications; it is about providing that same professional experience for the masses, people who love their cycling but do not have the taste, or the appetite, for the cut and thrust of a race. The ToC is for you too. The opportunity to experience the spectacle on fully supported closed roads is a rare treat in the UK. We do hope you all enjoy a safe positive experience riding the ToC whether in the Chrono or the Gran Fondo and that you tell your friends about it. Finally, we would like to offer thanks to all of those organisations who have partnered with us to create something unique on the British landscape including Cambridgeshire County Council who backed us from the very beginning as part of their Tour de France legacy. We do hope we do you proud. UGFWS Corporation The UCI Gran Fondo World Series is very happy to have the Tour of Cambridgeshire as one of our qualifier events for the 2016 UCI Amateur World Championships. In fact, we were already looking for a few years to a strong event in the UK to include in the series. Britain has, in recent years, been very successful in professional cycling with Tour de France winners Wiggins and Froome, but also Mark Cavendish as one of the big stars attracting young and old to also taste a new cycling experience. They now get the chance to have a once‐in‐a‐lifetime experience to ride like a pro for one day. Continental style amateur cycling has finally made it to the UK. So if you want to go to the UCI World Amateur Road Championships, go and get qualified by finishing in the top 25% of your age category. Erwin Vervecken UCI World Cycling Tour Coordinator

Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book Cambridgeshire County Council Cambridgeshire County Council is proud of its involvement in the Tour de France and the continued efforts at building a legacy to promote cycling, tourism, health and well‐being. The County can now say that legacy has been secured. We see the Tour of Cambridgeshire as a unique opportunity to have the area recognised nationally and internationally. It provides a platform for the local authorities, residents and businesses to celebrate and endorse all that is good within the County. The fact that an event of this magnitude is being driven wholly by local residents shows the ambition and determination of the people of Cambridgeshire and the County Council is honoured to facilitate it. Peterborough City Council Peterborough is proud to be a key part of the Tour of Cambridgeshire. Our city has more than 150 miles of cycle routes connecting the whole of Peterborough and that means there is nowhere you can’t get to on a bike! The closed road Gran Fondo event had never before been seen in the UK and it’s a great honour for the city to host the start and finish. We hope that serious and leisure cyclists come together to take part in this wonderful finale to the weekend. For those spending some time in Peterborough you will find a heritage city, an environment city, an event city and a modern exciting cosmopolitan city. Our magnificent Norman cathedral is a sight to behold with its majestic architecture. Open spaces are plentiful. Peterborough boasts Green Flag award‐winning parks, nature reserves and our country park, Ferry Meadows, where you can relax and take a walk around the lakes and woodland. Peterborough’s historic city centre is a vibrant regional shopping destination and Queensgate Shopping Centre sits in the heart of the city where it complements independent stores and a thriving market. For food and drink there is a diverse selection of restaurants serving cuisine for every palate and many, alongside some fantastic bars and pubs, open well into the evening. Importance of Registration Schedule Whilst our welcome is warm and heartfelt the warmth and feeling of our welcome will be all the more passionate if you are able to support us by working with us regarding the Registration Schedule. We have a limited capacity for handling large spikes in the numbers of riders registering. We have also gone to the effort of producing an EXPO area, a Food Court and indoor Chrono Start ramp and podium which all benefit from footfall and spectators. Please help us by registering as early as you can for the event to enjoy the spectacle we have produced. We MUST avoid a rush of arrivals at the last minute on the Sunday morning potentially causing issues and spoiling the experience we have created.

Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book ToC Event Solutions Desk GC has made every effort to produce a technically excellent event with ToC. There is a chance that there is something that we missed or which hasn’t quite worked out according to plan. We need this feedback and we will work to resolve issues which may spoil your experience. Road Captains shall provide direction and support to small groups of Club Kermesse members, each called an Equipe, throughout the day. The reason for this charge is to incentivise entrants to arrive early to help prevent the traffic problems we caused on the A1 in 2015. Unfortunately, in 2015 we experienced a peak arrival volume of traffic in the period 09.00hrs to 10.30hrs despite prior requests regarding early arrival. The resultant traffic jams raised questions about the viability of the event at Cambridgeshire County Council. On the understanding that we addressed the traffic flow with the traffic management contractor we have been given the go ahead for future events. We have to get the traffic flow right as we are expecting in the volume of cars to grow year on year from the 4000 in 2015. We have looked at the viability of various options to address the traffic flow issue and rewarding early arrival is unfortunately the simplest and practical option.

Version 7 May 2016
Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book Official Start times will be published on‐line at least two weeks ahead of the Event. Estimated podium times for planning purposes are set out below: Chrono Start Ramp – Riders are responsible for getting themselves up the onto the start ramp platform in time. There will be at least two Chrono helpers on the start ramp to assist riders to get ready for their start. Chrono Route Hazards – There are very few hazards on the ToC Chrono Route. The key hazards are:
Possibility of slipping indoors after the start ramp, particularly if the weather is wet and tyres have not dried off in the Chrono Holding area. Always stay on the left hand side of the road, except if overtaking, look up and watch where you are going at all times. There will be oncoming riders on both Oundle Rd, Bullock Rd and on site at PAS. Tight double roundabout outside PAS on the outward and return journeys. Left turn into Bullock Road from Oundle Road. Riders will be approaching this junction from both directions. Stay on the left hand side of the road. Left turn off Bullock Rd up toward Morborne Hill. The road surface has been resurfaced. Also do not run wide as riders will be approaching from Bullock Road beyond this junction. The approach to the village of Morborne has a double bend which requires caution. The decent on Bullock Rd is fast and if wind is from the left (West) it is possible to lose control of a bike. The Start and Finish area is potentially hazardous as riders will be heading out and finishing on the same road. It is necessary to stay on the left hand side of the road along this section of the route.
Version 7 May 2016
Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book Chrono Finish – The Finish of the Chrono is inside PAS on the Plaza area. HS Sports will assist riders to remove timing chips from their bikes in the run out following the completion of the Chrono. Any timing chips not collected by HS Sports will be invoiced to the competitor at a cost of £70 each. Riders failing to complete the Chrono are responsible for returning their timing chip back to HS Sports. UCI Time Trial Bike Specification – The UCI has a specification for Time Trial bikes. This specification is available on the UCI website. The Tour of Cambridgeshire shall not be testing against the UCI specification. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure their bike is road worthy. GC take no responsibility or liability for an un‐roadworthy bike. If, however your position is not that of a traditional time trial participant in the UK or a road bike then the Commissaires may remove you from the event if they consider your position is dangerous. Chrono Race Support – Medical / Technical support will patrol the Chrono route from time to time thought the day. Team cars or any other non‐official vehicles are prohibited from being on the closed roads. Timing Queries – Queries with the timing and results are to be addressed to HS Sports near the Start or Finish area. Chrono Safety –
It is obligatory that riders wear a suitable helmet for the ToC Chrono. Riders compete at their own risk and have signed a disclaimer to that effect. Competitors should note that on approximately half of the Chrono route there will be riders on both sides of the road. Be careful when overtaking to watch for oncoming riders on the opposite side of the road. Police motorbikes will be riding the route from time to time to support road security. Please maintain personal awareness and do not impede them or try to follow them. Always stay to the left hand side of the road unless overtaking, do not ride in a group or take advantage by sitting close behind another rider. Always look up and be aware of your surroundings, especially if you change the line that you are riding as you may be about to be overtaken! Beware of any public vehicles (cars, lorries, motorbikes for farm vehicles) under NEG escort which are on the route. Be aware at all times that a determined breach of the road closure order by a member of the public is a possible hazard which despite the best efforts of the organisers is impossible to prevent. Any driver responsible for such a breach will face criminal prosecution. Please be attentive and if necessary take evasive action.
Drafting Riders spotted drafting by the Commissaires, stationary on the course or on Motos will be disqualified. The UCI Rules of drafting will be applied. You must ride this as a single rider with no aid from sitting behind other riders.

Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book ‐ Leisure The Race gate will be sub‐divided into Pens, each accommodating one of the UCI Masters Age Classification. Male and Female riders of the same age will start together in the same Pen. A Gran Fondo is a mass participation race. The winners of the age / gender classifications will be the first three riders with the fastest ‘from the gun’ time. Only those riders in the Race Gate will receive a ‘From the Gun’ time. Each Age Group within the Race gate will get its own ‘From the Gun’ start time. The podium positions will be determined by the finishing position across the line. Riders in all communities will receive a Chip Time. The Chip Time will determine the Qualification status for the UCI World Amateur Road Championships for all finishers. Start is at 12.00hrs for the Race start gate. Thereafter each Start Gate shall open and move forward behind an official vehicle to the designated Start Gantry where the timing chips will be activated. CAUTION – The most likely time for rider incidents to occur is during the Start. It is essential that during the start phase of the event all riders respect one another and ride safely in a group. It is strongly recommended that at all times slower riders ride on the left hand side of the road and faster riders on the right and that overtaking by faster riders is done on the right. A small physical gap shall separate the Rider Community gates to allow riders in and out as the start is being assembled. Riders shall enter the start gates when the start gates open at 11.00hrs. Access will only be granted to each Gate or Pen upon presentation of the jersey number. Riders shall enter all Gates / Pens on a first come first served basis. Riders in the Race gate shall be issued with a coloured wristband at Registration when the Race Pack is collected. This will grant access into the Race Gate. Once in the start gates, due to the number of participants, only a limited exit and re‐entrance will be possible. Please be courteous to other riders who may have to make an exit and return to their bikes. Limited toilets are provided around the start area. Please use the facilities in the Arena or the various toilet blocks identified on the site map before entering the start gates. In any event do not urinate (or worse!) anywhere other than in the facilities provided. Any riding caught doing so will be disqualified. Gran Fondo Route Hazards – There are very few hazards on the ToC Gran Fondo Route. In any event the key hazards are:
Roundabouts upon exit from and entrance to PAS. Left hand turn from Oundle Road to Bullock Rd. There will be a substantial numbers of riders arriving at this junction together. The road also narrows. There will be roadside warning. Take care and be considerate. Pit Stops are generally dangerous due to riders moving across the road, slowing down and starting up. If you have an incident and need medical support make your way to an event official (feed station supervisor, traffic management operator, Police or other Event official) and report your need for assistance. If you are unable to proceed then wait for assistance. Ask another rider to report your need and the location. Team cars or any other non‐official vehicles are prohibited from being on the closed roads. If possible, the Chief Commissaire will, at his sole discretion, bring neutral support vehicles in behind any leading groups of riders at the front of the Gran Fondo. If you become in need of mechanical assistance, then progress to the next Official and ask them to report your situation. If we are unable to reach you before the roads are re‐opened, then you will be picked up by the Broom Wagon and repatriated to PAS with your bike at the back of the race. If you are unable to complete the Gran Fondo please ensure that your situation is reported to the Solutions Desk upon your return in order that all riders can be reconciled. Gran Fondo photography is provided by a highly regarded team from Germany called Sportograf. They will have photographers located around the circuit each day. They will also have a fleet of motorcycle mounted photographers to ride within the Gran Fondo and capture images of riders in the event. Please do not impede the motorcycles. Leisure Community short route deviation from the long route is at Pondersbridge. Any rider, from whichever Rider Community, not reaching Pondersbridge by 16.00hrs will NOT be allowed to continue along the long route.

It is a requirement that all riders wear a regulation safety helmet. Also, please ride with common courtesy and good road presence. Events like the Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo shall not survive in the UK if they become known as being dangerous. It is up to the riders to ensure the safety of other riders. The organisers have provided a fantastic playground for the riders to enjoy themselves in and it is a responsibility of each and every rider to ride with respect to others and, above all, safely. We owe it to ourselves and our sport. Disc brakes are not allowed under the UCI regulations however there shall be no bike check for the Gran Fondo. Be aware that in the event of minor cuts and bruising a First Aid Station is located at each feed station. If you cannot continue in the Gran Fondo then wait for the broom wagon and make your circumstances known to the Solutions Desk when you are repatriated to PAS.
All non‐finishers MUST make their situation known to Solutions Desk at PAS and they will record your DNF status officially and confirm your safe arrival back to PAS. Section 8 – Podium, Prizes and Medals (UGFWS and ToC Finisher) ToC Podium Guidance ‐

Section 9 – Critical House Keeping The Very Cool Events Company applies a strong environmental policy to our events as does Cambridgeshire County Council. Peterborough itself is the UK Environment Capital in terms of its new housing and the attraction of environmental sector businesses. The local communities through which our event passes also have the right to expect that we leave their local environments as we find them. If we don’t respect this position we will not be welcomed back in future years. ToC is being produced at PAS to ensure that a superb technical event can be delivered. PAS is self‐ contained, has easy access and plentiful parking. The costs to provide this are substantial. The organisers will be liable for any costs to either clean or make good the site following the Event. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE when using the facilities, specifically in relation to:

Tour of Cambridgeshire Race Book 1. Damage to the grounds either within the buildings or in the car park area. The particular concern here is in the event of wet ground and the need to use some of the grass parking areas. In the event of cars causing damage to the grass above and beyond reasonable wear and tear then the organisers reserve the right to apply a £100 fine to the offending vehicles. This will be applied by the traffic management company. In the event that wet grounds cause vehicles to become stuck the vehicle owner / driver / responsible person must inform the traffic management operators who will call in our specialist vehicle removal operators who can extract vehicles and limit damage to the grounds. These charges will be passed on at cost to the vehicles. 2. Waste / litter MUST BE placed in the waste bins made available at PAS and out on the circuits. The organisers are providing wrapped products and bottled water. The packaging from these products is of particular concern and MUST be disposed of in the appropriate receptacles. PLEASE make an effort to use these facilities or take the litter away with you. Failure to do so will drive up entry costs for subsequent years. Section 10 – ToC Event Solutions Centre The organisers recognise that we might not get everything right at the event. We have established a dedicated desk for dealing with queries associated with the event in general. If you are in any way dissatisfied with any aspect of ToC please report your concern to the ToC Event Solutions Director based at the ToC Event Solutions Desk. We will endeavour to address each concern and identify a suitable solution to the satisfaction of all parties. If you would like to give us good feedback we’d appreciate that too and again, please direct it to the ToC Event Solutions Desk. Section 16 – Rider Insurance and Medical Database The Tour of Cambridgeshire is proud to have collaborated with CyclePlan, a highly respected provider of sports insurance, to include Third Party liability cover against damage to other riders for riders participating in the Tour of Cambridgeshire. The policy is for up to £1,000,000 per incident and has a £500 excess. It is recommended by the organisers that riders in ToC take out further accident insurance to protect themselves and equipment. CyclePlan have a stand in the EXPO and are offering a special discount to riders signing up for additional cover at the Event. It will be necessary for all riders at ToC to activate their insurance with CyclePlan from the ToC Website. A Medical Database is also available for riders with medical conditions to register their condition before participating in the Tour of Cambridgeshire. This will enable the ToC Medical Director to be better prepared for medical eventualities. Riders should visit the ToC website and enter any relevant data.
