Greetings Dad’s and Daughters, Here it is November already, the year is almost over. We had a great recruiting year with over 100 new Dad’s and Daughters joining the organization. A Special thanks to Jim Stewart for all of his hard work and all of the Recruiters and Advisors who helped out. Without everyone helping like they did there was no way we could have had the success that we did. Thanks to all. The Car Rally was another huge success; it was a great time for all. It was nice to see as all the new people that were there, everyone looked like they had fun. Thanks to the OIC’s Dave and Nick and all of the outposts who helped put this together. By now the fall camps are winding down. The Ghost Marches were spectacular as usual. The girls all had a great time; especially when they were presented with the Assistant Trail Boss and his secret identity. (I can’t reveal that in this letter because I am writing it before the camps and it is a surprise, we wouldn’t want the Running Waters editors to let it “slip”). This past month we also received a Grant of $500.00 from the Ronald McDonald House Charities. I would like to personally Thank Dave and Madelyne Stiles, of the Mighty Rising Stars, for helping us put this together. Dave has been in for quite a few years and was even a past Chief. He constantly helps us with donations of food and other items so that we can continue to keep the cost of our events low while still allowing us to provide quality events. Thanks Dave and Madelyne… This money allowed us to upgrade our lighting system for the Ghost March dance and will be available for future event use. Our own InkJet/Toner Cartridge Fund raiser is moving right along; this past month we received another $100.00 check that will go directly into the general budget to help fund some upcoming events. Keep up the good work and keep the cartridges coming. I hope to see everyone take advantage of the remaining events through the end of the year; these are some of the best events and are a great opportunity to create that special memory between Dad and Daughter… Don’t let them slip by….. Don’t forget about the website for current information. Visit www.thebigcreekfrontier.org and try the member’s only area Username = princess Password = tiger That’s about it, until next time… Your Trail Boss, Tony Cocita – Dark cloud and Melissa Cocita – White Cloud Remember: A ship in the harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.

2006 Car Rally Event Review A Nick Marton—Dave Stiles Production When: Sunday, October 8th Where: Royalview Picnic Plaza Weather: Sunny and 75 degrees Attendance: 599 kids and adults

Wow!! What a day. What a turn out– 599 kids and adults. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I would like to thank the following Outposts for their participation in making this event one of the best of the year: Thundering Waters (Outstanding Food Preparation), Shawnee (Great job handling the huge registration lines), Cougars (Nice Route preparation), Burning Cuyahoga (Fantastic work DJ Russ and the rest of the Cuyahoga handling the Parking detail) and once again the Wild Bears put on a wonderful display of games and tattoos. Great Job everyone. Thanks to Fire Maker Bernie Willoughby for the use of his generator, Awards Maker Mike McClelland for his creative patch design (pictured above), Legend makers Tim Hollo and Dave Markulik for their event pictures and my dad, Paul Marton, for his setup work and running for supplies. I would also like to thank Dave Stiles who does so much for this organization. Dave was the COOIC of this event. He arranged for the Ronald McDonald appearance. Dave also made a gracious food donation and shared his knowledge in running such a huge event. Thanks again Dave. A special thank you to my wife Laurel for her support and assistance in preparing for the event. 2006 Car Rally Raffle Winners Toys–R-US Raffle

HEY THERE PRINCESSES!!! My name is Melissa Cocita. My dad, Tony and I are in the Shawnee Outpost of the Fire Territory. I am 10 years old and in the 5th grade at Bigcreek Elementary School. What I like most about school is writing. My favorite TV show is Suite Life of Zack and Cody and my favorite book is Harry Potter. My favorite song is “I’m having a party”. My favorite food is pizza and I love ice cream sundaes for dessert. Besides Adventure Princesses, I am involved in soccer, baseball, choir and instrumental. My favorite Princess events are the campouts and my favorite craft was candle making. The most fun thing our Outpost ever did was campout. For a new Adventure Princess event, I think tobogganing would be fun. The funniest thing my dad ever did was dress up as Napoleon. The trail of fluffs on my headband is four feet long. I have 70 patches on my vest and I have 66 beads on my necklace.

The Mighty Ducks– Health and Safety

On September 11, the Mighty Ducks visited the North Royalton fire department for a Health and Safety meeting. The meeting was conducted by Lt. Ken Toth. The Mighty Ducks were given a tour of the firehouse and learned about some of the equipment used in fighting fires. Lt. Toth told us how some of the departments from other cities cooperate with each other when an emergency situation arises. He also told us about the trucks and their cost and how water is brought to high rise buildings to fight fires. The girls got to sit in a rescue squad and George Erker explained that most of the firefighters are now also instructed to be paramedics. Of course, there was a call during our meeting and Lt. Toth and some of his squad had to rush out to answer a call. Mr. Erker took over and continued our meeting. Other firefighters answering questions at our meeting were, Rich Urich, Bill Hejduk and Mark Pollack. The Mighty Ducks found the meeting most educational and would like to thank Lt. Toth and his squad for conducting this meeting for us. Hail to the North Royalton Fire Department for their service. They are A Quack Above The Rest.

Princess Standard Care and Feeding Beginning in 2006, a Princess Standard will be provided to each Outpost as their symbol of representation within the Frontier. The Standard consists of a pole that is approximately 6ft long, which is colored to match the Territory to which the Outpost is assigned. The Standard is equipped with a pennant that the Outpost can decorate with their logo. The Standard is not to be “Greenhorned” or the subject of pranks between Outposts. Care and Maintenance of the Standards are the responsibility of each Outpost. Basic Care Simply wipe the standard with a damp cloth to keep off dust and dirt. The flag is nylon and requires no special care. Construction The standards are constructed of 1-1/4” white PVC pipe, with glued fittings and threaded together into two parts to make transportation easier. Each section is roughly 40” long. These materials are available at most hardware stores. Prior to assembly, a ½” x ½” x15” piece of hardwood is glued inside the top section of the standard using tub surround glue about 1- ½” from the top end of one PVC pipe. This will be the support for the pennant. The top half of the standard where the hardwood is located is drilled with a 1/8” about 2- ½” from the top into the hardwood. The second hole is drilled by measuring the distance between the grommets on the pennant. All other pieces are glued together at this point with PVC cement. The standards are cleaned and primed with a plastic primer. After drying one of the following colors is used to spray paint the standard. Sun Territory

American Tradition by Valspar -- Bumble Bee Gloss

Forest Territory

American Tradition by Valspar – Hunter Green Gloss

Sky Territory

American Tradition by Valspar – Royal Blue Gloss

Fire Territory

American Tradition by Valspar – Cherry Red Gloss

After the paint dries, two 1/2” gold anodized cup holders are screwed in place for the pennant. The cup holders are bent with pliers after the pennant is inserted to hold it in place. The 12” x 18” white pennants are made of nylon to last for the four years of use in all weather. Painting with waterproof paint and/or embroidering and/or gluing designs on the pennant are acceptable tribe decorations. No other decorations are acceptable on the standard itself. Your outpost will collect service ribbons over the duration of the program that will be hung on the standard. Feeding None necessary, except, perhaps a touch up of paint over time.

Fire Territory Report by Dean and Gina Manzetti Remember Outposts: please get your reports in to me no later than the 6th of each month so we can publish them in the upcoming month’s Running Waters.

FIRE TERRITORY REPORT Cheyenne: We are looking forward to doing our final Ghost March skit and last camp out. Steve Toth can’t wait to get started selling those thousands of raffle tickets for our annual fundraiser. The Thundering Waters: Layni and Mike Manochi hosted the September meeting for the out post at the North Royalton McDonalds. The location gave the girls a good opportunity to get in some exercise and allowed the dads some time to plan out the Car Rally and upcoming Ghost March skit. The event was a blast for all those in attendance. The Mighty Maya: This months meeting was hosted by Kirsten and Rich Maricic. The meeting was held at the Seven Hills Rec Center. The girls had a great time swimming and eating pizza. We made plans for our upcoming Ghost March skit and also planned for the fall campout and are looking forward to the Car Rally. The Mohican Red: We are looking forward to our last Car Rally and Camp. The Ghost March is always a great activity. No report: The Wikki Running Wakki Deer, Iroquois, Miami, Shawnee, Yellow Knife: The Yellowknife group is finally back in gear after the summer break, and we have had two meetings since we last reported. The first meeting was held at the Thorman household where we had a craft to create a keepsake picture plaque for each of the girls. Each dad & daughter provided a picture of themselves taken during the last four years, and each girl took the outpost photos to create a picture collage of the group. We all signed the backs of the plaques to make a truly memorable item that the girls will treasure for years. Thanks to the Thorman's for taking a great idea and making it happen! We also met at the Stewart household for our 4th annual (and last... sigh..) "Tunnel of Terror" maze buildiung party in preparation for the Ghost March at camp. The maze is built and painted and is ready for assembly. We'll look forward to presenting it one last time. Hope you all have fun! Rachel & Jim Stewart (Little Feather / Big Feather) Page 19

THE RUNNING WATERS

Sky Territory Report by Jim and Megan Mementowski Jolly Rogers: The Jolly Rogers got together at the Family Camp at Kalahari in September. Lots of water and lots of fun! What a great event. We hope more Princess outposts join in the fun next year! We've also been tweaking up our Ghost March Skit and are looking forward to the Fall Camps. Mighty Eagles: Wow where has the summer gone? Next up is back to school and preparing for the ghost march (start getting your costumes ready) and fall campout. Fall is here and all the girls are back in school. Some of the tribe did get together at Kalahari for some fun. This was a great time and we are hoping we can do it again next year. Olivia and her Dad took some time to talk to the first graders at St. Columbkille and tell them all about how great it is to be a Princess and all the fun stuff we do. Next month will start getting busy; we are getting ready for the fall campout and will be working the dance hall for the first camp weekend. Don’t forget the car rally! Rising Stars: Been a slow month for the Rising Stars. The girls are looking forward to the Car Rally and Overnighter. Some of the girls will be at the Fall Camp and can’t wait to do the ghost march. Hope the Dads aren’t frightened by all the ghosts and goblins. BOO! Until next month…….. Night Owls: The Night Owls are looking forward to the Fall Camp out. We have already had one meeting to work on our skit for the Ghost March. Prepare to be scared!!!!!! See you at the camp! Blue Lightning: The Blue Lightning put on a new skit at the Fall campout. Cassidy and Tom Wagner hosted the preghost march & camp meeting at their house to work on the skit. Fun was had by all. The host's entertained with pizza baking and experiments with black light drop tests. A new trend we think! Fall camp's behind us now and we're looking forward to the overnighter!!! Armadillos: Greetings from the Mighty Armadillo outpost. Here it is October already. Year 3 is nearing its end. The last 3 years have gone by so fast. We would like to take this time to thank THE STORY TELLER for the story concerning the ARMADILLO. We all really enjoyed reading it. We had our annual summer camp at the outpost of Greg and Espe Breen. We enjoyed a bonfire, food, and fun Sat night sleeping in tents till Sun morning breakfast. We have a profound respect for cabins after sleeping on the hard ground. We are getting things ready for our fall camp and ghost march skit. We are also looking forward to the CAR RALLY and OVERNIGHTER. Till we see everyone on the trail again---happy trailing between dad and daughter! No Report Submitted – Crooked River & Kazoos

The Blue Angels - A friend of mine spotted the Blue Angles at the air show last weekend in Florida. I hope they had a great adventure flying. The Cougars – are on the prowl on the great Big Creek Frontier trail. I hope to we can read of the great adventures in the Next Running waters edition. The Mighty Ducks - The Mighty Ducks attended a Fire & Safety meeting at the North Royalton fire station hosted by Lt. Ken Toth. There were other firemen who stayed behind and continued the tour with our daughters. The Mighty Ducks are looking forward to Fall campout and the Ghost March. Who knows what duck (Oops!) or ghoul may be out there waiting. The Mighty Ducks.........A Quack Above the Rest The Grizzly Bear – Welcomed two new members this month and are getting them set to enjoy the next few years together. The Mighty Purple Panthers - spent September planning for a busy October. The outpost had a meeting at Hannah and Pat Coyne's home. The Dads had plenty of planning to do for camp and our ghost march skit. We decided on a theme for the ghost march skit with the help of Jim Hovanchek - thanks Jim. We also planned details for our camp on FRIDAY the 13TH - SCARY!!! The Coynes had great food/snacks for all who attended and a great Halloween craft for the girls. And most important was the time spent together - thanks Hannah and Pat. We are looking forward to camp and our next meeting by Aubrie and Jodie Taylor. Happy Halloween!!! Annamarie and Sal Talarico. The Mighty Red Dragons - We’re currently working on our ghost march skit and we’re looking forward to fall camp and the car rally.

The Rowdie Raccoons - have captured that pesky Raccoon who took off two months ago with the running waters report. The bad news is the report was shredded. I hope that next month The Rowdie Raccoons report makes it safely to the forest scout with great details of the fall camp. The Wild Bears - The Wild Bears would like to welcome our new members Ed and Rachel Haoui. The group has been busy gearing up for all of the fall festivities. We had a family party at the Gulick house with many in attendance. We are also in the planning of our heritage outing. Beware of the Wild Bears in the woods at the ghost march Friday the 13th!!! Hope to scare (I mean see) all of you there. Friends always, Scott and Kaitlin Conner

They hope to get the entire group together to enjoy the D'Natos gift certificate. We're also excited about our first fall camp. Jaguars: August was full of summer fun for the Jaguar outpost. Greta and Alyssa and their dad's went to the Breakfast at the Park. They had delicious food and lots of fun the whole day long. The Jags then "hit the links" at the Princess PuttPutt at Buzzard's Cove in Hinckley. We had great weather and enjoyed a fun day of golf. Katie K., Greta, Bandi, Alyssa, and Brieann all went on the Mid-Summer Fluff Raid. The Jaguars enjoyed all of the challenges at each officer's house. There were also Jaguars at the North Royalton Parade where we had a great day for marching. We are looking forward to some Jaguars outpost activities in September such as Drive In Movies, Midnight Fluff Raid, Recruiting Rallies, and the Cedar Valley Settlers Celebration. See you in October! The Jaguars would like to welcome the new Fire Nation... we hope your first year will be as memorable as ours. The Jaguars held their first backyard movie at the Wolfe's house. We had a DVD projector and watched the movie "RV". We then went on a midnight fluff raid. We raided 5 officiers house's (well, actually 6 officers, but the Tally Keeper either wasn't home or was sound asleep). The Jags also earned our heritage patch and ribbon by attending the Cedar Valley Settlers Celebration. The Jags got to "live in the 1800's" all day and each brought home a new harmonica. We then had a picnic at the Rocky River reservation. We cooked hot dogs and brats. The princesses, and their families, got to explore the river, and put on a show debuting their new harmonica skills. Some Jags were also busy helping recruiting at all 3 rallies. We are preparing for the Fall Camp and looking forward to seeing the new Fire Nation at the Car Rally! Monarch Butterflies: Are busy getting ready for a great time at the fall camp and Ghost March. Mustangs: No report this month Twisters: The Twisters held a meeting at the Parma Fire Safety House, The Twisters very own Firefighter Matt , spoke to about fire safety. Then the girls walk over to the fire station where Lt. Tony of the Parma Fire Department gave the Twisters a guided tour of the fire station and showed the us all of the equipment they use to fight fires. Megan's dad Doug got to try on all of Lt. Tony fire fighting equipment. All the girls even had a chance to sit in the drivers seat of the fire truck and blow the horn. Megan and Doug hosted a meeting at the Independence Library The shelf's shook and the books swayed the building is still standing.
