A Note From the Director Dear Friend of the Family Center, Thank you for taking the time to get to know us better by looking over this 2014 Annual Report. Inside you will find information about our services, our sources of financial support and our achievements throughout 2014. The Family Center continues to be a place of safety and support for families affected by domestic abuse and sexual assault. As the Family Center’s new Executive Director, I look forward to continuing the agency’s tradition of providing a wide array of services for victims of domestic and sexual violence that can help them live violence free lives. I bring with me nearly 20 years’ experience in the domestic violence field, first with CAP Services Family Crisis Center in Stevens Point and most recently as Executive Director of the Manitowoc County Domestic Violence Center for the past eleven years. The work of the Family Center cannot be done without your support. We hope you will partner with us in 2015.

Susan Sippel

2014 Statistics Notable Improvements

The need for survivor services in Wood County was made clear in 2014, more so than any year previous—compared to 2013 we saw a 10% increase in demand for services. In 2014, the Family Center provided services to 1,325 clients including:

>shelter for 256 women and children. >sexual assault services for 221 individuals >visitation and exchange services for 321 individuals

Thanks to the generosity of this community, several significant improvements were made to the Family Center in 2014.

> With funding from the 2014 Men in the Kitchen

fundraiser, a new security system was installed providing a better recording system and improved cameras, as well as intercoms with integrated video for more control over entryways.

>With funding from an anonymous donation, the bedrooms in shelter received a makeover—all new furniture was added and bed capacity increased from 22 to 36 beds!

>With funding from the Riverview Healthcare

Foundation, much-needed emergency exit gates were installed in our security fence.

In 2014 we received a generous donation from Solarus which funded the production of the Family Center’s first ever Video Tour! Now, anyone can take a look inside our facility with just a few clicks.

Batterers’ Treatment

New in 2014

Video Tour

The Family Center resumed offering treatment for court ordered offenders of domestic and sexual violence in 2014 . Through the use of the Duluth Model, this treatment has been proven to change the underlying beliefs and attitudes that cause perpetrators to act and think in terms of power and control over their partners.

In August, the Family Center will host its first annual Volunteer Recognition event to show our gratitude for the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time and energy each year to help end violence in our community. The event will be held in the shelter at Nepco Lake with food catered by It’s The Pits LLC and live music from Tilly’s Village. The Family Center would not be able to operate every day without the help of volunteers—so we are excited to introduce this event in 2015!

Upcoming in 2015

Volunteer Celebration

Men in the Kitchen 2014 Men in the Kitchen 2014 proved once again to be an enormous success—and a lot of fun! With 15 teams of chefs serving a total of 128 guests, the event was a big one. Thanks to the hard work and creativity of all our volunteer chefs, the Ridges staff, and our gold sponsors—Cranberry Creek Cranberries and Riverview Medical Center—we were able to raise more money for the shelter than ever before! The 2014 event was also the first year a “Fund-aNeed” reverse auction was introduced to the event. Money raised from the Fund-a-Need combined with a generous matching gift allowed the Family Center to obtain a brand new, much-needed security system to ensure safety of all in shelter.

Mark your calendar—Men in the Kitchen 2016 is scheduled for Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Ridges Golf Course & Supper Club!

30th Anniversary The Family Center celebrated two notable anniversaries in 2014—30 years as an organization and 10 years at the current facility. A celebration event was held at Bullseye Country Club to honor the amazing work that has been achieved by everyone involved with the Family Center over that past three decades. Thanks to sponsors WE Energies, First Weber Foundation, and NewPage/Verso, the event was a success!

Congratulations Del! One of our volunteers, Delbert Dietzler, was one of only 10 recipients of the Green Bay Packers Foundation Community Quarterback Award in 2014! The Community Quarterback Award is presented to volunteers making a difference in their community, and no one deserves more recognition than our volunteers! We are incredibly proud to see Del formally recognized for his years of dedication and service to the Family Center.

Coaching Boys Into Men During 2014 the Family Center began work on implementing the Coaching Boys Into Men program which is designed to reach young men with positive messages about non-violence. This program takes advantage of the unique relationship a coach has with young athletes to discuss important topics like respect, violence, harassment, insulting language, bullying, and online conduct. The Nekoosa High School Football team, led by coach Jason Becker, has partnered with the Family Center to bring this program to life in our community. We are looking forward to working together in the upcoming 2015 season and becoming the first Coaching Boys Into Men program in the state. With the support of the Green Bay Packers Foundation who is sponsoring our efforts, we hope to set an example for other organizations across Wisconsin!
