JACK VETTRIANO ‘ T h e Pe o p l e ’ s Pa i n t e r ’

Born in Fife in 1951, Jack Vettriano has emerged from the unlikely background of an early working life in the Scottish coalfields to become one of Britain's best known contemporary artists; he is entirely self-taught. His work first came to public prominence at the Royal Scottish Academy open exhibition in 1988. Since then there have been sell-out exhibitions in Edinburgh, London, Hong Kong, Johannesburg and New York. In 2003, Jack Vettriano was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from St Andrew's University and an OBE for Services to the Visual Arts. In April 2004, his painting The Singing Butler was sold at Sotheby's for in excess of £700,000 a record breaking price for a painting by a Scottish artist. Vettriano's most recent exhibition with London’s Portland Gallery, Love, Devotion and Surrender, was in April 2006. A Collection of images from this important event is available to collectors and is illustrated in this magazine. We are proud to be associated with the work of Jack Vettriano.

James Blinkhorn’s powerful, ultra-stylish compositions stop us in our tracks as effectively as the speeding Ferraris they portray. A striking example of modern male success, James is talented, innovative and competitive, with that traditional High Flyer

masculine weakness for the sexier things in life – particularly fast cars. His images contrast the myriad greys of sidewalks and skyscrapers with occasional ventures towards the bolder end of the spectrum. To achieve this distinctive look, James approached a bespoke pastel manufacturer and had over 50 different shades of grey individually created ranging from oyster to ash, from iron to dove, from seawashed pebbles to cloudy skies. These allow him to describe every nuance of

ORIGINAL ARTWORK Harry Brioche Born and brought up in the Seychelles, Harry found himself entranced by the “moody” skies he found within the UK. His new oil paintings portray beautifully lit scenes of the British countryside, which he describes as "lighting the landscape". John Milan lived for a time in the beautiful Mediterranean coastal city of Kavala in Greece, and it is this experience that has influenced his distinctive palette. His fascinating abstract images contrast dense areas of tonal layering with a more ethereal range of luminous whites and ochres. Simon Bull who lives in California, has been a huge international talent for over two decades. His artistic inspiration comes largely from his poetic response to the world which he conveys via an extraordinary vocabulary of colour, form and texture.

Peter Wileman VPROI Some of Peter’s most expressive images are inspired by Britain’s coves and harbours, and the beautifully rendered detail gives each scene a quality of intimacy. Philip Gray has a unique ability to communicate the wonder of the natural world and portray the spacious landscapes and wide skies of his native Irish coast. Emilija Pasagic was born in the former Yugoslavia but moved to Canada in the 1990s. Her unconventional style uses a blend of bee’s wax and oil paints combining an exotic, modernistic approach with an ancient technique.
