Ice Cream & Fish PDF Pattern / Template You can hand applique, machine applique, or make out of paper and put on gift cards and other fun things!

Templates in pattern are 7inches You can change the size of the pattern by adjusting the size of your printout. Another easy way to do this is to take a “snapshot” right from Adobe Acrobat Reader (which we recommend you use to open and print patterns), then paste it into a word document, or your word pad that comes with your computer. You can then adjust the image by grabbing a corner and enlarging or shrinking. Any problems or questions, feel free to contact me!

Supplies needed to make appliques: Fabric & felt scraps Embroidery floss (I use 3 strands for stitching) Paperbacked fusible webbing - I like to use Heat N Bond. They have a light which is great for items you plan to sew through. They also have a heavy which works well for items that you will be embellishing with paint, or that you plan to fuse to paper. It offers a strong hold. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions fo the brand of webbing you are using. Optional supplies: Buttons, sequins, beads, ribbon, 3-demensional paint, fabric paint, rick rack, glitter, bells, wiggle eyes, charms, or anything else you can think of that will add interest to your applique. General supplies: 5” to 7” embroidery hoop(s), scissors, pins, needles (sewing, embroidery), paper & pencil, cardstock (for printing pattern pieces), iron & ironing board Important Tips & General Instructions: **Read tips and instructions thoroughly before beginning. **Iron your fabrics before starting. For best results fabrics should be 100% cotton. If you plan to prewash your fabrics. Do NOT use fabric softener. It can keep the fusible web from sticking. **When printing your pattern, make sure you do not shrink the document. You will want to print it out at the actual size for your pattern pieces to be the proper size. You will find this setting in the box that appears when you choose “PRINT.” On some computers you will want to choose “NONE” for the page scaling, and on others, you will just choose “ACTUAL SIZE.” I placed a 3” line on the pattern page(s) so you can make sure that the pattern is printing at its proper size. If you want to adjust the size of the applique, you can change the printout size in your printer properties. Also, make sure that you specify which pages you want printed. You don’t want to print out any pages that you don’t need. I like to use my tablet PC, or computer to view my instructions to save ink, and only print out the pattern pieces I want. **If you will be using felt to make the appliques and stitching them directly onto felt, fuse a piece of light to medium weight fusible interfacing on the back side of the felt that will be used as your background. You won’t need an embroidery hoop if using felt. **Be sure to follow manufacturer’s instructions for any fusible interfacing or fusible webbing you will be using.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLIQUE Assembling for the appliques is quite easy and the only limit to what you can create with this simple template is your imagination. Have fun and let the addiction begin! For appliques that I will be stitching to fabric, I like to use Heat N Bond Lite (paper backed fusible webbing): 1. Print out the pattern pieces from this document. If you want to adjust the size of the pattern, see the notes on the “Important Tips & General Instructions” on page 2 of this document. 2. Choose your scrap fabrics (100% cotton). If fabric is to be pre-washed, do not use fabric softener. It can prevent your adhesive from sticking. 3. After you have decided what fabric you want to use for what part of the applique, cut out a piece of fusible webbing big enough to fit your applique pattern pieces. Cut your fabric piece a little bigger than the fusible webbing. 4. Iron the glue side of the fusible webbing to the back side of the fabric scrap. Be sure to follow manufacturer’s directions for the fusible webbing of your choice. 5. Flip your applique pattern piece upside down and trace around onto the paper back side of the fusible webbing. Be sure to set aside any pattern pieces with stitching detail or other embellishment ideas to use as a reference when you get to that piece. 6. Cut out the pieces on the lines and remove the paper backing. Arrange these pieces with the fabric side facing up onto the right side of the item of your choice. You can use the illustration or the photograph as a guide. Iron in place following the manufacturer’s instructions for the fusible webbing you will be using. ***If you will be stitching your appliques by hand, you will use a small quilting hoop to keep your fabric taught. ***If you will be machine stitching your appliques, you will want to use a stabilizer on the back side of the item you will be stitching the applique to. ***If you will be using your applique on paper such as lunch bags or greeting cards, use the Heat N Bond Heavy. You can also use this product if you will be using your applique on fabric and intend to seal the edges with 3-demensional paint.
