Interview im Magazin Salon 2014 S: Die Knauf Jewels Werke bestechen wie bei Haute Couture Kleidern durch ein unkonventionelles, innovatives Design- Was zeichnet ihre Schmuckmanufaktur Knauf Jewels aus? NK: Knauf Jewels setzt auf ein ausgefallenes, innovatives Design in präziser Handarbeit gefertigt, jedes Werk ist ein Unikat. Für die Fertigung verwenden wir nur hochwertige und sorgfältig ausgewählte Materialien. Hohe Ansprüche legen wir auch auf die Beratung der Kunden sowie die Umsetzung ihrer Wünsche mit höchster Qualität und Kompetenz. S: Wer steht hinter der exklusiven feinen Juwelenschmiede? PK: Meine Frau Nathalie und ich haben Knauf Jewels 2011 gegründet. Zuerst haben wir mehr aus Liebe zum Schmuck quasi als Hobby die ersten Werke designt. Die positive Resonanz von einem stetig wachsenden anspruchvollen Kundenkreis, die es schätzen ihr innovatives Unikat zutragen, hat uns überzeugt unser Kollektion professionell auszubauen. Heute werden wir von unserem Expertenteam aus den weltweit besten Designern, Goldschmieden und Emailleuren unterstützt. S: Wie kam es dazu? Sind Sie bereits in einem Kultur Umfeld aufgewachsen? NK: Ja, aufgewachsen ist das richtige Wort. Kunst und Design haben unsere Eltern und uns immer interessiert. Wir sammeln seit Jahrzehnten Kunst, ob es spanisches Glas aus dem Mittelalter, Antiquitäten oder heute auch zeitgenössische Kunst sind. S: Wann begann ihr spezielles Fabel für Edelsteine? PK: Sehr früh daraus resultierte auch unser gemeinsames Studium am GIA, dem Gemological Institute of America in London. Das Institut arbeitet intensiv im wissenschaftlichen Bereich der Gemmologie und beschäftigt sich mit Nachweismethoden zur Erkennung von behandelten Saphiren oder Rubinen. Ein Designstudium schloss sich an und heute designe ich immer noch mit großer Passion alle unserer Knauf Jewels Schmuckstücke selbst.

Interview in the Salon Magazine 2014 S: Wie und Wo finden sie ihre ausgesuchten, exquisiten Steine für die Knauf Jewels Schmuckstücke? NK: Viele der wertvollen Steine kaufen wir auf der Intergem, einer internationalen Fachmesse für Edelsteine in Idar-Oberstein. Gerne verwenden wir aber auch Edelsteine, die noch nicht im intensiven Bewusstsein der Menschen sind, Steine wie ein Mandaringranat oder einem Rubellit. Diese Steine sind noch nicht so verbreitet und geben den Schmuckstücken einen gewissen neuen «Look». Großen Wert legen wir aber auch darauf, dass die Steine aus konfliktfreien Regionen stammen. S: Sie haben umfirmiert von PNK auf Knauf Jewels; Was bedeutete PNK? PK: PNK ist die Summe aus unseren Vornamen Philippe und Nathalie kombiniert mit dem gemeinsamen Nachnamen Knauf. Daraus schufen wir im Jahr 2011 PNK Jewels, eine moderne LuxusCompany für handgefertigte und ausgefallene Schmuckstücke, die wir komplett in Deutschland produzieren. Alle unsere exklusiven Werke sind Einzelstücke, wir sind wie eine Manufaktur für Haute Couture Mit unserem Schmuck vereinen wir Kunst, Kultur und Design.

S: The creations by Knauf Jewels stand out like haute couture dresses due to their unconventional, innovative design. What makes Knauf Jewels’ jewellery production special? NK: Knauf Jewels places its trust in extravagant, innovative design executed with precision handwork, every piece is an original. In our manufacturing, we only utilise high-quality and carefully selected materials. We also have high standards when it comes to consulting our clients and fulfilling their wishes with the highest degree of quality and expertise. S: Who is behind the exclusive, high-quality jewellery production? PK: My wife Nathalie and I founded Knauf Jewels in 2011. We started by designing the first pieces more out of our love for jewellery, practically as a hobby. The positive feedback that we received from our ever-growing, discerning group of clients that places value on wearing their own innovative original convinced us that we should extend our collection in a professional manner. Today, we are supported by our team of experts, which is comprised of the best designers, goldsmiths and enamellists in the world.

S: How did that come about? Did you grow up in an environment with a lot of culture? NK: Yes, grow up is the right term. Art and design have always interested our parents and us, too. We have been collecting art for decades, whether mediaeval Spanish glass, antiquities or now contemporary art. S: When did your special weakness for gems begin? PK: Very early, which led to our studies together at the GIA, the Gemological Institue of America in London. The institute works very intensively in the scientific field of gemmology and concentrates on detection methods to recognise treated sapphires and rubies. That was followed by studying design, and I still passionately design all the pieces by Knauf Jewels myself. S: How and where do you find your selected, exquisite gems for Knauf Jewels jewellery? NK: We buy lots of the valuable stones at the Intergem, an international expert fair for gems in Idar-Oberstein. We also like to utilise gems, though, that people are not consciously aware of, stones like mandarin garnets or rubellite. These stones are not well known and give pieces a certain new look. It is also important to us that the stones come from conflict-free regions, though. S: Your company was prior called PNK Jewels, what did it stand for? PK: PNK is the combination of our respective first names, Philippe and Nathalie, combined with our last name Knauf. We turned that into PNK Jewels in 2010, a modern luxury-oriented company for handcrafted and extraordinary gems that are all wholly produced in Germany. All of our exclusive works are individual pieces, we are like manufacturers of haute couture jewellery. Our jewellery brings together art, culture and design.
