GCBMWC February Meeting Minutes President Tom Raybuck called the meeting to order at 7:25 PM at the home of Marsha O’Connor and Neil Jones. The minutes for the January Meeting as recorded by Ken Francois and presented in the February 1 Newsletter, were approved as presented. Treasurer Marta Craves gave a report in which the opening balance of the Club’s bank account was $4,466.41. Income from dues and split the pot were $87.00. The only disbursement was $1,000.00 paid to the Kolping Center as a deposit on the 2016 Holiday Party. Ending balance was reported to be $3,553.41. She made this report with a sincere smile and a straight face, and all who were present appeared to believe her, approving the report as presented. OLD BUSINESS President Tom Raybuck reviewed the January meeting at Butterbee’s Restaurant where new Club officers were formally inducted. Kim LaBar reported that the 2016 Holiday Party will be held at the Kolping Center on December 10th. Costs for the event are expected to be slightly higher than last year. VP Ed Saul sent a report that the February 7th first Sunday Club breakfast and ride attracted 13 for breakfast with 10 going for the ride to Heuston Woods. The day started with temps near 30 and ended up near 54 degrees by the end of the ride. Neil Jones reported that negotiations with Shawnee State Park continue over room and cabin rates for a fall Club outing. Burr Oak SP would be our second choice if we are unable to secure an acceptable room rate from Shawnee SP. Several members went to the Garage Brewed Moto Show on Feb. 6 at the Rheingeist Brewery. Many interesting bikes were on display. There was no admission charge and the facility was overwhelmed with attendees. Good beer was available for $6. At least one fight broke out. A full report with photos will be in the March GCBMWC Newsletter. Past President Bob Ulrich and RA President George Nyktas reported on the RA Winter Campout held at the historic Lafayette Hotel in Marietta, Ohio. Our club was well represented with Bob and Gail Ulrich, George and Mary Nyktas and the Jessie and Eric Ratermann all present. A lighted candle on a table in the hotel lobby serves as the ceremonial “campfire” around which participants gather for the telling of motorcycle stories and other tall tales, some true. The Ault Park Concours d’Elegance was discussed. No members present felt that they owned a BMW bike worthy to be selected for display in the show. March Moto Madness is approaching rapidly. Club members planning to participate include Bill Wright, Jessie and Eric Ratermann, Bill Wright, Tom Raybuck, Merrill Glos, John Fischer, Todd Leaver, George & Mary Nyktas. The event takes place in Tellico Plains, TN on March 3-6. NEW BUSINESS No new business was discussed. ANNOUNCEMENTS The Butler County Donut Trail is active with 9 locally owned family donut shops. Participants can pick up a Passport, good for a Donut Trail T shirt when all shops have been visited. Raybuck reviewed Meat Week 2016. BBQ every day. A motion to adjourn was approved at 8:08 PM, after which Split the Pot was won by Neil Jones for $26. Treasurer Marta Craves was stunned and reluctant to award the prize since Jones also won the January drawing. Later, Jones was overheard to say that Marta Craves is the best Treasurer the Club has ever had. Minutes recorded by Neil Jones

This is a list of 83 amazing persons who actually paid dues for 2016. Thanks to all for joining. If your name is not on the list, write a check to GCBMWC and bring it to the next meeting. We have a new Club Treasurer and she needs the money. If you are new, you will have to meet the high standards for membership. This includes : 1. Attending at least 2 club events 2. Writing a check to GCBMWC for $18 ($15 single) 3. The check has to clear your bank. These high standards were put in place to prove that we don’t accept just anybody into membership, as some unruly clubs do. Other motorcycle clubs may have loose regulations about membership, but we have high standards.

A bike with an interesting story is Randy Hermes’ 1973 Triumph X-75 Hurricane. You could walk right past and miss the depth of this motorcycle ’s history, One look at the streamlined tank flowing into it’s one-piece fiberglass bodywork is all it takes to realize this is indeed a special motorcycle. The 1973 X-75 Hurricane was Triumph’s first attempt to create an “Americanstyle California Chopper.” It was intended to be Triumph’s answer to Honda’s hugely popular CB750. It is also special because it was designed by Craig Vetter. Yes, that Craig Vetter, the aerodynamics visionary and streamliner maker, founder of the Vetter Fairing Company. This was the first time an American designed a bike for the British -based company. It was originally intended to be sold under the BSA banner, but BSA closed its doors in 1972. The X-75 Hurricane was re-badged as a Triumph and offered as part of Triumph’s 1973 line. It had a production run of just 1046 bikes. Low production numbers teamed with the fact that it was designed by Craig Vetter makes it a highly prized and highly collectible bike. It features a 741cc, OHV Inline Triple with triple upswept pipes streaking down the right side. Triumph fitted the bike with crankcases from the BSA Rocket 3. The extended fork tubes helped designate the X-75 as a “cruiser.”

For the new reader This page is dedicated to the new reader, persons who want to know more about the GCBMWC. You old timers just go back to whatever you were doing. If you are interested in motorcycling and want to get together with others who share your interests, you have a couple of ways to stick your toes in to test the GCBMWC waters. Our club communicates on a Yahoo Groups email list. To join the list, just send an email to [email protected] Put the word “Subscribe” in the subject line. Don’t fear, you can unsubscribe just as easily. Once registered, within a short time you will start seeing emails from members. Among other things, you will get the latest info on where we are meeting and what to expect. This email group does not permit political, sexual nor subjective content, and humor is limited to motorcycle topics. The next way to get involved would be to show up at a Club Breakfast & Ride, usually held on the first Sunday of each month. Locations are announced a week in advance. You would normally read about it in the group email. It is perfectly acceptable to show up in a car. These restaurant gatherings typically attract 15 to 30 persons. Breakfast is followed by a 1 to 2 hour group ride, weather permitting. It is OK to start on the ride and wave off at any point to head home. And the next step would be to attend a club meeting, typically held in members’ homes on the second Saturday of each month. Once you have attended 2 club events you are invited to join the club if you wish. Dues are $15 per year, $18 for a couple. Membership does not require owning a BMW bike. Our members ride BMW, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Harley, Honda, KTM, and scooters. We are open to all ages and experience levels. Check out our Club Website at GCBMWC.org. There you will find photos, videos and stories about the Club and dozens of interesting links. Finally, you can email this Edditor with any questions or concerns. You will get a speedy response.
