Northshore Families Helping Families

President Loup called on Mrs. Lynda Bradley, Volunteer and Community Partners Coordinator for Northshore Families Helping Families. Mrs. Bradley said in response to the growing number of families impacted by Autism, several mothers joined with Northshore Families Helping Families to create a new initiative, soar – Strengthening Outcomes with Autism Resources. Mrs. Bradley said the mission of soar is to provide the individualized services, information, resources and support needed to positively enhance the independence, productivity and inclusion of individuals with autism to soar beyond limits. Mrs. Bradley presented the St. Tammany Parish School Board a Community Partners certificate of appreciation. Superintendent Folse said a fundraiser was held in April to raise awareness of those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder and a check was presented to Northshore Families Helping Families in the amount of $18,206.00. E.

Special Recognitions 1.

Perfect Attendance Recognition

Mr. Brandon Clanton said a reception was held prior to the Board meeting to honor employees of the St. Tammany Parish School Board who had perfect attendance during the 2010-2011 school session. The following Resolution was offered by Mrs. Heintz, with a unanimous second. WHEREAS, the strength of the St. Tammany Parish Public School System is determined in large part by the dedication and hard work of the employees of the system; and

WHEREAS, exemplary employee attendance is one factor in the foundation of a strong employee work force; and WHEREAS, accountability goes beyond test scores to include a positive work ethic that supports strong academic performance; and WHEREAS, employee attendance can be directly linked to student achievement and a positive learning climate; and WHEREAS, perfect attendance by employees of the School System shows a high degree of commitment to maximizing instructional time and limiting disruptions to learning; and WHEREAS, perfect attendance by employees also serves as an example for students that can encourage improved student attendance and positive work habits that will serve students well through life. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the St. Tammany Parish School Board acknowledge and appreciate the commitment of all employees within the School System who have perfect attendance on the job and commend them for their outstanding diligence and dedication. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the official minutes of this Board, with a copy being sent to all employees having perfect attendance during the 2010-2011 school year. All members present voted in the affirmative, and the resolution was declared adopted. 2.

United Way Campaign

Mr. William Brady, Assistant Superintendent, said the United Way Campaign recently held their kickoff luncheon for 2011-2012. Mr. Brady said the St. Tammany Parish School Board is the largest employer in St. Tammany Parish and he looked forward to another successful campaign. The following Resolution was offered by Mrs. Tipton, with a unanimous second. WHEREAS, the St. Tammany Parish School Board recognizes the contributions made by the United Way to services in St. Tammany Parish through agencies such as the American Red Cross, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA, YWCA, St. Tammany Association of Retarded Citizens, East St. Tammany Rainbow Child Care Center, Girl Scout Council, Boy Scouts of America, the Youth Service Bureau; and WHEREAS, this Board would like to encourage all employees to participate in the 2011 drive through payroll deduction or cash contributions during the campaign scheduled from September 8, 2011 to October 14, 2011. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the St. Tammany Parish School Board does hereby go on record as supporting the United Way Drive in the St. Tammany Parish School System. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the official minutes of the Board with a copy being sent to all schools and sites to encourage participation in reaching the United Way goal for this year. All members present voted in the affirmative, and the resolution was declared adopted. II.

Chavers, Teacher, Honey Island Elementary School, retired from the St. Tammany Parish School Board; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Chavers was an educator for thirty-two and sixteen hundredths (32.16) years, all in St. Tammany Parish. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the St. Tammany Parish School Board wishes to express its appreciation to Mrs. Chavers for her many years of service. Superintendent Folse thanked the Board Members and the public for their input during this process of putting together a budget that would not negatively impact the teachers or the instruction that happens in a classroom on a day to day basis. Mr. Bettencourtt asked if the upcoming College Fair at SLU had been announced to students and parents of the area high schools. Mrs. Arabie, Assistant Superintendent, said letters and memos were mailed to all parents of junior and senior students and flyers were at the schools announcing the College Fair. President Loup called on Mrs. Mullett. Mrs. Mullett asked for clarification that it was not the St. Tammany Parish Schools who decided to move College Fair to Southeastern, but it was the participating colleges that requested that the College Fair should be held at a college campus. Mrs. Arabie said SLU did ask for St. Tammany to participate at the College Fair on their campus. IV.

ANNOUNCEMENTS BY THE BOARD PRESIDENT

President Loup said the Black and Gold entertainment at the Perfect Attendance reception was furnished by the cheerleaders and dance team from Salmen High School. Their sponsors are Denise Troullier and Jamie Marks. The National Anthem was sung by Salmen High students Karen Lopez and Troy Crawford. Their voice teacher is Briana Faciane. President Loup said a Committee As A Whole meeting for Human Resources/Education will be held on Thursday, September 15 and it would be followed by a Special Board meeting for the purpose of an expulsion appeal hearing.
