Force multipliers... ...cover soldier’s” FORCE test, she gained a new perspective on the crossover possibilities between her students’ arts background and a career in the military.

“When we have the recruiter in for career day, you can see students’ eyes looking at their display, and people are thinking,” Wemyss said. “There are translatable skills in arts, so I’m hoping when we do have the recruiter in

next, people are thinking of the potential.” The CFRG hosts several unique recruitment awareness sessions a year, keying in on under-represented populations, including women, Aboriginals and visible minorities. The CAF follows the federal Employment Equity Act, which encourages a wide representation of Canadian demographics within the workforce. The current representation rate for women in the CAF is 14.8 per cent (compared to a target representation rate of 25.1 per cent), 4.9 per cent for visible minorities (versus a target of 11.8 per cent) and 2.1% for Aboriginals (versus a target of 3.4 per cent). “Key influencers” – like the group of female guidance and career planning specialists visiting 14 Wing – can help expose a military career and lifestyle to these populations. “They become ‘force multipliers,’” says Sergeant SueAnn Galenzoski, the women’s advocate for the CFRG. “They remain permanent advocates for the Canadian Armed Forces and, as pillars of their communities, their words of endorsement establish

instant credibility and confidence amongst their respective audiences.” The CFRG program in Greenwood spent a day touring the support and logistics trades, and another in the operational airfield. An effort was made to showcase CAF women in a range of trades, from administration and finance to flight crews to military photography. “What we say about the military as a career and what we can actually show is different,” says Petty Officer 2nd Class Jo-Ann Landry, the diversity coordinator for the Quebec recruiting centre. “If these guests can say, ‘We saw that, we ate at a Mess, we slept in military quarters;’ it makes a difference.” 14 Wing Greenwood Commader Colonel Pat Thauberger and 405 (Long Range Patrol) Squadron Commanding Officer LieutenantColonel Brendan Cook, also 14 Wing’s “champion” for women, greeted the CFRG group in headquarters October 27. “We’re looking forward to opening up the wing so you can see everything we do,” Thauberger said, “and it’s a

November 4, local Grade 9 students participated in the 21st National Take our Kids to Work Program, with many visiting work spaces at 14 Wing Greenwood. This program is designed to help students to better understand the importance of education, their parents’ careers and what potential career paths are available to themselves. 14 Wing Operations, 413 Squadron, 405 Squadron, 415 Squadron,

LRPSET and 404 Squadron took part by offering its members the opportunity to take Grade 9 students on the AOZ and showcase a cross-section of career options available in the military environment. There were approximately 30 students involved, and it was an active day, with tours of the air traffic control tower, multiple aircraft static displays and the opportunity to fly the CP140 simulator - an eye opener for some, and a great experience for all. Players set to share ‘wonderful’ holiday story

The Greenwood Players are feverishly working on their next production, the modern classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” set for December 1 to 5. Director Jeffery Pocock, a theatre veteran of several decades, is creating a truly “wonderful” show, and the cast and crew are working hard to mould their characters and hone their lines to bring this well-known Christmas tradition to life. We join George Bailey as, under the guidance of his guardian angel, Clarence; he discovers how one person can touch so many lives - and he finds “It’s a Wonderful Life” after all. Greenwood Player favourite Jaden Braniff plays George brilliantly and will make you forget about that other guy

(you know, the one in the movie). With the clever casting of Rene Braniff as Mary Hatch/ Bailey, the love and devotion between the characters is real (there’s no “stage” kissing here)! Angel 2nd Class Clarence, played by John Vink, is not your stereotypical spirit as he shows George what his life was - or could have been. The large cast of supporting actors makes for a very active and challenging production. “It’s a Wonderful Life” will run from December 1 to 5 on the Greenwood Players’ stage in the AVM Morfee Centre, School Road, in Greenwood. Curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8, available at both the Middleton and George Bailey, played by Jaden Braniff, turns down a Guardian angel Clarence, played by John Vink, stops Kingston Pharmasaves or by deal with the miserly Mr. Potter, played evilly by Todd George Bailey, portrayed by Jaden Braniff, from jumpcalling 902-242-5015. Chalifoux, men’s softball team up for CAF sports awards Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services is gearing up for the 2015 Canadian Armed Forces Sports Awards Ceremony, November 27 in Ottawa. Several 14 Wing Greenwood nominees are in the mix. Coach of the year nominees include Warrant Officer

Alain Chalifoux. Chalifoux is involved in a wide variety of sports, as an athlete, coach, official and organizer; within both the military and local communities. In 2014, he coached both the 14 Wing Greenwood’s squash team and the men’s slo-pitch team before going on to the gold

at the CAF national slo-pitch championship. The men’s slo-pitch team went undefeated during the round robin at the Atlantic regionals. His community involvements include coaching youth basketball and being a member of the Greenwood Minor Basketball Association com-

mittee. The 14 Wing Greenwood men’s slo-pitch team is up for team of the year. Positivism, camaraderie and motivation inspired the men to perform at the highest level in 2014. The team won

the Atlantic championships for the fourth time out in seven years. They also distinguished themselves with a gold medal at the CAF national slo-pitch championship, while four team members were nominated to the

men’s all star team, including one as the tournament MVP. Their performance during the rest of the season was also impressive, as they were the champions at civilian tournaments held in Kentville and Berwick.
