This publication is aimed fairly and squarely at small and medium-sized enterprises, and procurement departments in larger organisations, to help you get hold of the huge range of affordable wholesale Fairtrade items that are out there. As a Fairtrade campaigner and a business person one of the questions I most often get asked is, “how can I get hold of wholesale Fairtrade items for my business?” This guide attempts to answer that question by listing just some of the Fairtrade wholesalers, distributors, vending machine operators, clothing manufacturers and other business-tobusiness organisations operating in the UK, and in particular in the South West. Choose Fairtrade Why switch to Fairtrade? There has been an enormous increase in consumer awareness in recent years, from the sourcing of food to the conditions of workers in developing countries. This trend puts businesses in the spotlight as consumers want to know that producers are not being exploited. Fairtrade sales continue to increase despite financial pressures and hit the billion pound mark in 2012, including supplying the 2012 Olympics, and recognition of the Fairtrade Mark is higher than for any other consumer label at 80 per cent.

What is Fairtrade? Fairtrade provides producers in developing countries with a fair price for their products plus a Fairtrade premium to invest in local community development. Fairtrade buyers enter into long-term contracts enabling investment and stable employment. The Fairtrade Mark guarantees employee welfare and high environmental standards.

What are the benefits to us? You’ll get more customers. Corporate behaviour is under intense scrutiny by an increasingly discerning public who make ethical choices when spending their money. Integrating Fairtrade into your business by switching to Fairtrade purchasing is a highly effective way of showing your customers that you care. Switching to Fairtrade also adds a feel-good factor for staff. Offering Fairtrade products to your staff and customers is a great way to demonstrate that you are a caring business as it has high recognition and consumer confidence.
