Any Road, Any Condition, Any Time – You Can Handle It Skip Barber Driving Schools teach the survival skills needed to safely handle today’s challenging road conditions. Everyone in the family can benefit, from the teenage driver to the more experienced enthusiast. Courses combine classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction in an exciting variety of Mazda passenger vehicles. Participants have the time of their lives – and learn the skills that could save them.

ONE DAY DRIVING SCHOOL

This program features a classroom session on vehicle dynamics, manual transmission instruction, and identifying why cars behave the way they do. In the ONE DAY DRIVING SCHOOL students learn and practice slides and recoveries on a skid pad, threshold braking, lane-toss exercises and accident avoidance techniques in Mazda RX-8 sportscars, Mazda MX-5 roadsters, and MAZDA3 sedans. Of course, everyone gets out of the cars smiling! TWO DAY DRIVING SCHOOL

Pick up where the ONE DAY DRIVING SCHOOL leaves off, with more seat time to practice and more smiles. The programs add heel-and-toe downshifting and more accidentavoidance techniques. Additional classroom sessions address street awareness and road manners. NEW DRIVER PROGRAM

The NEW DRIVER PROGRAM is for drivers who have at least a permit and 20 hours of experience. It conveys the same vehicle dynamics message made clear in the Driving School but emphasizes greater “street awareness” and a thorough review of road etiquette. Important fundamental skills, including how to operate a manual transmission, parallel parking and reversing exercises are included in the curriculum. Driving the Mazda MX-5, the Mazda RX-8 and MAZDA3 sedan, students benefit from core Driving School exercises such as braking, emergency lane change and slide recovery on the skidpad.

“Your visual and hands-on method of instructing really made a difference in my own personal diving style. I’d be hard pressed to pick any one particular part of the day as my favorite because all of it was great!” Kris, Wisconson

Compare models to make a purchase decision or experience the limits of these performance automobiles. No other Driving School puts as diverse collection of cars at your disposal. And all the while you can contrast and compare the handling, power and ergonomics of different high-end sports cars. Graduates of the ONE DAY HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVING SCHOOL are immediately eligible to register for the ADVANCED CAR CONTROL program, a Skip Barber Racing School Advanced Activity. TWO DAY HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVING SCHOOL

Picking up where the ONE DAY leaves off, the Two Day provides not only the benefit of “sleeping” on what you learned the day before but we also teach the proper “heel-and-toe” downshift technique. TWO DAY Grads are immediatedly eligible for the ADVANCED CAR CONTROL program.

“I walked into the first day of class with the confidence that I could handle most any kind of driving situation encountered out on the course. I proved myself wrong on the first two laps on the skid pad... The school taught me techniques that I can apply and use in everyday driving, gave myself a greater appreciation for the capabilities of modern production cars, and allowed me to meet an excellent staff of instructors.” Toby, Connecticut

Skip Barber Racing–Trained Drivers Have Won Every Major U.S. Racing Championship Part art, part science, driving a race car is about feel, focus and anticipation. Your racing journey begins at one of America’s premier racetracks, following the same course curriculum used to train Nextel Cup Champion Jeff Gordon and Champ Car World Series Champion Michael Andretti. INTRODUCTION TO RACING

An exciting taste of open-wheel racing that offers 60 minutes of lapping in the 2.0 liter Formula Skip Barber race car. This program maximizes your time behind the wheel while you learn the proper race line, race -st yle downshifts, and advanced braking and cornering techniques. Instructors set the pace as you lap the track inches off the ground. In short, it’s a rush! THREE DAY FORMULA CAR RACING SCHOOL

Students master the fundamentals in classroom and driving sessions in the Formula Skip Barber, a full- out race car with braking and cornering capabilities that vastly exceed any street or sports car. Day One starts with a classroom session; an introduction to the cars, discussion of the track and agenda for the program. An intense series of exercises follow, including practicing car control skills on the autocross and more downshift work. The day concludes with full-track lapping and lead/follow sessions. Day Two emphasizes track time in a series of lapping sessions at higher speeds. The Formula Skip Barber sessions are coupled with track time in MAZDA3s; your instructor rides “right seat” to help reinforce your learning the racing line. The afternoon concludes with learning advanced techniques such as “trail-brake rotation.” Instructors consistently monitor all on-track action and give you direct feedback during and after the sessions. Day Three includes classroom instruction in drafting, passing and racing in the rain, but the majorit y of the day is spent lapping at speed. Part of the day includes being gridded in race formation behind a pace car, which peels of f as you practice starts and re -starts. Graduates of a Skip Barber THREE DAY RACING SCHOOL are eligible to participate in the Advanced Activities required to compete in the Skip Barber Race Series. Eligible graduates can also apply for Regional SCCA Competition Licenses.

In the same way the ADV2 bridges the gap bet ween the formula car student and racer, the ADVANCED TWO - DAY RACING SCHOOL prepares you for the racing environment. Day One: More autocross work, braking exercises, lead/follow passing exercises with instructors and full course lapping. Day Two: Extended full- course lapping. The Next Step: Race-Training Bridging the gap between the Skip Barber Three Day Racing School and the Skip Barber Race Series are several Advanced Activities, programs which elevate and hone the skills acquired in the Racing School and prepare you for the starting grid. Formula 2000 Test Day ADVANCED CAR CONTROL

This is where you safely learn how to “rotate” a car – critical to a fast lap, as you point to the apex and make mid- corner adjustments. Getting comfortable with balancing a vehicle in a “drift” is important. You drive a mix of Skip Barber Racing vehicles: Formula Skip Barber, Mazda R X- 8 and M A ZDA 3. Unlock your potential in a safe, controlled environment. ADVANCED TWO–DAY RACING SCHOOL

The Test Day improves a driver’s analytical skills to get the most out of the car. With your own personal Skip Barber Racing coach for the day, the Test Day is a combination of Computer Lapping and Lead/Follow. Coach and driver get on-track together: the driver follows the coach to learn the fastest line, the best braking-, turn-in and track-out points, and any particular “tricks” endemic to the track. Then a systematic series of set-up and chassis changes are made to the car to show how each makes a difference in the Formula Skip Barber car’s handling.

The ADVANCED T WO - DAY R ACING SCHOOL (ADV2) bridges the gap b et ween student and racer. Day One: M ore autocross work, braking exercises, and full course lapping. Day Two: Extended full- course lapping with individual lead/follow. LAPPING/PRACTICE

L APPING and PRACTICE are the most effective ways to hone the skills learned in the Advanced Car Control and ADV2. Competition and Camaraderie: The Best Racing There Is Since 1975, Skip Barber Racing has led the world in open-wheel formula car racing schools and entry level racing championships. Now you can choose between open-wheel formula cars or closed-wheel sport cars.

From the beginning, the Skip Barber Race Series has served two distinct audiences: the recreational racer and the aspiring professional. In fact, the reason many people choose to race with Skip Barber Racing is because they know it is the place where the stars of tomorrow begin their careers. To say you’ve raced – and won against – those drivers is immensely satisfying. And a huge amount of fun! Each year, Skip Barber Racing conducts 14-18 Regional Race Weekends; six or seven double-race events for each of the three seasonal regional championships. The Summer Race Series typically begins in April and wraps up in October, while the Southern and Western Race series begin in October and run through April. Drivers can choose to enter as few or as many race weekends as suits their budget and time, and can transfer points from or “double” at up to two Race Weekends per season, to fit their schedules and remain in the running for the championship.

FORMULA RACE SERIES

The series that started it all. The Formula Race Series is pure “arrive and drive.” We maintain and transport the 60+ identically prepared Skip Barber Formula race cars. You and up to 70 other drivers, from raw rookies to experienced vets, show up for lapping, practice and racing. Your “team” is Skip Barber Racing’s professional staff of mechanics, instructors and coaches, each with years of racing experience under their belts. MAZDASPEED CHALLENGE

Based on the time proven principles of professionally built and maintained cars the Formula Race Series was built upon, the MAZDASPEED Challenge is equal car, “arrive and drive” racing utilizing Mazda’s MX-5 Miata, converted for racing by Skip Barber Racing to specifications closely matching those of the SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Championship.

The BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda is the initial formula car step on the comprehensive MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Ladder. Starting with the Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shoot-out, a driver can move into open-wheel racing with the Skip Barber National. The Skip Barber National Champion earns a fully-funded seat in the following season’s USF2000 Championship. The USF2000 Champion is awarded a fully-funded seat in the following season’s Star Mazda Championship, an important stepping stone to professional open-wheel racing in North America and the world.

Each year, up to 50 of the world’s best karters gather at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to compete at the annual Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shoot-out. During the program karters are put through an extensive series of on- and off-track evaluations designed to find the next great race car driver. At the end of the program a panel made up of Skip Barber driver coaches and guest judges awards at least $130,000 in seat time scholarships. The largest prize is worth approximately $50,000, enough for a fully paid season in the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda, courtesy of the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Ladder. Past winners include Ryan Hunter-Reay, Michael Valiante, Bryan Sellars, A.J. Allmendinger, Alexander Rossi, Gabby Chaves, Sage Karam, and Connor De Phillippi.

Climb the Ladder of Professional Open-Wheel Racing The transition from karter or amateur racer to professional race car driver can take many paths. The grids at many of the largest professional racing events are filled with drivers for whom the Skip Barber National was on their path to racing stardom.

First organized in 1999 as a one-off championship race for the “best of the best” from Skip Barber Racing’s four Regional Series, a race won by IndyCar driver Ryan Hunter-Reay, today the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda is a 14-race professional series positioned as a primary steppingstone for young pro drivers whose next step is USF2000, followed by Star Mazda. These drivers race on legendary tracks such as Road America, Sebring International Raceway, Road Atlanta, Lime Rock Park and more. All the cars are identically prepared Skip Barber Formula 2000 openwheel “wings-and-slicks” formula cars. The Skip Barber Formula 2000 is powered by 2.0-litre Skip Barber RS122i engine, prepped to produce 150 horsepower. The chassis is a space-frame design and uses a 5-speed sequential gearbox, and features a single-element front wing with a raised nose-box and a dual element rear wing. The tires are series specific BFGoodrich g-Force R1 racing slicks and g-Force Sport wets. The fleet of racecars used in the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda are owned, prepared, repaired, maintained and transported by Skip Barber Racing. Each Skip Barber F2000 is equalized through pre-race testing by professional test-drivers using timing and radar, with the objective that every car arrives on the grid within 1 mph of topspeed and 0.5 percent of lap time. Each race weekend, each National driver is randomly assigned one of the 30 Skip Barber F2000 race cars. Similar to Star Mazda, the Skip Barber National also recognizes a separately scored championship for drivers 40 and older called the Skip Barber Cup. The BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda is the series that launched the auto racing careers of NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers A.J. Allmendinger and Scott Speed, IndyCar winner and Indy 500 Rookie of the Year Marco Andretti, and dozens of other drivers succeeding in about every level of major motorsports in North America and the world. Prior to the National, Skip Barber Racing’s system was the career-starter for drivers including Juan Pablo Montoya, Jeff Simmons, Bryan Herta and Nelson Philippe.

motorsports facility. Longtime home to the SCCA Run-offs, Road Atlanta’s famous corners – One, The Esses and 12 (aptly named The Diving Turn) – have attracted the sports most famous drivers, including Jody Scheckter, Dan Gurney, Denny Hulme, Mario Andretti, Keke Rosberg, Bobby Rahal, Paul Newman

3.7-Mile “12 Hour” Circuit 17 Turns Even “non-racing” people have heard of Sebring and its world-renowned 12-hour endurance race, a racing tradition every March since 1952. To train and race at Sebring is to follow in the wheel tracks of racing’s most famous drivers: Andretti, Gurney, Moss, Hill, Foyt, Fangio and hundreds of others. Great weather and less than 75 minutes south from fun-filled Orlando, the Sebring 12-hour course is 3.7-miles in length, with 17 famous corners. The driving school facilities are comprised of a state of the art skid pad and a roomy autocross area.

It is no coincidence that the integrated Mazda-driven Skip Barber ladder system of schools, advanced activities and race series boasts a graduate list the envy of the racing world. Hundreds of race winners and champions – from Formula 1 and NASCAR to Champ Car and the Indy 500 – have, at various points in their careers, raced and trained under the Skip Barber Racing umbrella. Our graduates include one-third of all Indy 500 competitors, one-fourth of the NASCAR Spring Cup Field, and are winners of every major U.S. auto racing championship. Drivers such as Jeff Gordon, Juan Pablo Montoya, Michael Andretti, Bill Elliott, Helio Castroneves, Bryan Herta, A.J. Allmendinger, Kasey Kahne and... well, you get the idea. Pop culture celebrities also love the Skip Barber experience: Tom Cruise, Jerry Seinfeld, Paul Newman, Drew Carey, Matt LeBlanc and dozens of other movie, music, TV and sports stars are Skip Barber Racing School graduates, too. Go to skipbarber.com and click on ALUMNI and take a look for yourself.
