David A. Andrews East Palatka-David Alan Andrews, 43, died Friday, July 28, 1995, in St. Augustine. He was born in Buckhannon, W. Va.; and had lived in East Palatka since 1957, coming from West Virginia. He was manager of the Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Palatka. He also was a member of Ducks Unlimited, The National Rifle Association a Boy Scouts of America. He was a scuba diving instructor and an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dolores Andrews of East Palatka. Two sons, David A. Andrews and Phillip D. Andrews, both of East Palatka. Father John D. Andrews, Sr. of Palatka; brother, John D. Andrews, Jr. . of Palatka; sisters, Carol Falkner of Los Angela’s, Calif. And Barbara Harrell of Palatka, His Funereal was scheduled at 10 a.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church in Palatka with the Rev. Gary Isner officiating. Burial was to follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens. Friends called Sunday 3-5 p.m. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.

Coleman Sidney Barber Coleman Sidney Barber, 54, of Peniel, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999 at University Medical Center in Jacksonville from injuries received in an accident. Born in St. Augustine, he was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a 1963 graduate of Palatka High School. Following in his father's footsteps, he had been a lifelong logger. He had also worked at Central States Diversified and the Woodands Division of Hudson Pulp & Paper Co. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother and loved the woods, hunting and NASCAR racing. He was a Christian and a member of Peniel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Don Dwayne Barber, his father, Sidney Carter Barber, and grandparents, Bob and Delia Barber and Henry and Gertrude Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Annie Laurie Ennis Barber of Peniel; his daughters and sons-in-law, Shelly Lynn Averett and Todd of Peniel, Willa Jean Hayes and J. R. of Peniel; a son, Ricky Gurthie of Palatka; his mother, Jessie Barber of Peniel; a sister, Glenda Barber Brown of Peniel; a foster-sister, Judith Barber Stephens of Tampa; four grandchildren, Dillon Averett, Dawn Averett and Sydney Hayes, all of Peniel, and Zachary Gurthie of Palatka. Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Peniel Baptist Church with Brother Dannie Williams officiating. Interment followed in Peniel Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Peniel Baptist Church. James A. Brock (1945-2009) James A. Brock, 63, of Crystal River died Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at his home. He was born May 11, 1945 in Montezuma, GA, and came here 6 years ago from Palatka, FL. Mr. Brock was a retired Supervisor with F & H Contractors of Crystal River. He was a 1963 graduate of Palatka High School, where he received the Hancock Award. He served in the Florida National Guard, was a Shriner and a Mason and was a member of the Morocco Temple and the Provost Guard. He belonged to the Moose Lodge, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Elks Lodge and the Putnam County Jay-Cs. He was preceded in death by his Mother Mrs. Evelyn Rivenburgh and is survived by his wife Cheryl Brock of Crystal River, his Father James C. Brock (Shirley Nixon) of Palatka, son Mark Brock of Margate, Daughter Ashley Gibson (Brent) of Palatka, his mother-in-law Mrs. Elaine Chaykovsky of Crystal River, sisters Anne Lawson (Johnny) of Palatka and Elaine Cope (DeWayne) of Ocala, 7 grandchildren, 1 greatgrandson and three nieces. There will be visitation for Mr. Brock on Saturday October 24th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Crystal River. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday October 25th at 4:00 PM at the Johnson- Overturf Funeral Home Chapel in Palatka with Rev. Henry Willis officiating. Robert Francis Brooks Palatka-Robert Francis Brooks, 51, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at his home following a long illness. A native of Rantoul, Ill. He had resided in Palatka since 1960, coming from Rantoul. In 1966 he began a very successful career at Georgia Pacific (then Hudson Pulp and paper) in the Tissue Shipping Department. During the pursuing years, he was assigned every position in the department, including the position of Superintendent Tissue Shipping. During this period he also held the position of president of United Local 852 for a number of years. As he had become known for his expertise in the distribution business, he also was assigned to the Traffic Department as supervisor of traffic operation, and finally returned as manager of the Traffic Department in the fall of 1996. He also served on the board of directors of the G. P. Federal Credit Union from 1978-1988. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest T. Brook. He is survived by sons, Robert F. “Robbie” Brooks of St. Augustine, Christopher Scott “Scotty” Brooks of Palatka and Charles Lewis Burch ell of Daytona Beach; daughter, Kim Gill of Ocoee; mother Mary Jane Brooks of Marianna, brother Larry Allah Brooks of Orlando, sister Patricia Marie Lewis of Marianna, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Palatka with the Rev. Charles T. Rabun, Jr. officiating and Mike Escher, Rex McNeil and Sweet Owens, giving Eulogies .

Harvey B. Crews Jr. Harvey B. Crews Jr., 65, of Palatka, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at the E. T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville following an extended illness. Harvey was native of Reidsville, Ga. and had been a resident of Palatka for the past 56 years, coming from Bradenton. He had worked for the Georgia-Pacific Corp. in Palatka in Kraft Shipping for 25 years, retiring in 1988 following a work-related accident. Harvey was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Bardin where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Papermakers Union. Before declining health he enjoyed attending church, singing in church and serving as a deacon. He also enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey B. Crews sr. and Ruby Hughes Crews; and one son, Kevin Lee Crews. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Helen Margaret Crews of Palatka, son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Lee and Kymie Crews of St. Augustine, four brothers and sister-in-law, Michael and Sonya Crews of Hawthorne, Jerry Campbell of Palatka Don Crews of Jacksonville and Charles Hughes of East Palatka; five grandchildren, Renee Crews of Virginia Beach, Va., Hunter Crews of St. Augustine, Kristin Mashell-Lee Crews of Palatka, Macey Goodson of Palatka and Christopher Daniels of Palatka; one greatgranddaughter, Shelby Lee Crews; and several nieces and nephews. Stephen C. DuPont Federal Point-Stephen Charles DuPont, 48, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1983, at home following a brief illness. He was born in St. Augustine and as a lifelong resident of Federal Point. He owned and operated DuPont Enterprises in Hastings for the past 22 years. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Federal Point. He was a member of the Hastings Rotary Club. Neal Franklin Earls Dr. Neal Franklin Earls, 48, of Ravenel, died Sunday, December 12, 1993, a physical education teacher at Ashley River Elementary School and Assistant Professor of Education with the U of S Carolina, died Friday at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m., December 19th, at the home of Mr . & Mrs. Bartolo Merlino, 5681 Old Jacksonbora Road, Ravenel, according to John Liberatos, Funeral Director. Dr. Earls was born in Palatka, Fla. A son of Irving E. Earls and Vivian Weicheo Earls. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tampa, Fl., a masters from Wake Forest University and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina. He was an Air Force Veteran. He formerly taught at the University of Wisconsin and New Hampshire and at Ohio S. University. He was an active member of Unity Church. Surviving is his mother of Palatka; a son, Jeffary E. Eller, Fred Kenneth “Banker dies of injuries” Were the headlines of the local newspaper. Mr. Eller was an Officer in the Exchange Bank, where he had been employed since he was Senior at Palatka Senior High School. The car was a total loss. The name of the driver was not made public, but no seat belts were worn. With Mr. Eller was Kenneth Nagey, Robert Porch, Ronald Ferguson and Charles Thomas. Fred Kenneth Eller, 22, died Friday, August 9, 1968, from a fatal injury in an automobile accident. Services will be held in Hill Crest Baptist Church at 11a.m. Saturday. The Rev. W.F. Oddy will conduct the service. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens. Members of the Arm Reserve Unit of Palatka will act as Honorary Pallbearers. Mr. Eller was a passenger in a car, which ran head-on into a power pole. He died at Palatka Memorial Hospital.

Icenhour, Lawrence “Larry” Coffey Winter Haven—Mr. Lawrence “Larry” Coffey Icenhour, 60, of Winter Haven died of Heart Failure, Friday, June 9, 2006. Larry was born in Palatka, Fl. On November 30, 1945, Mr. Icenhour moved to Winter Haven from Palatka in 1977. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a sales representative for Profast Supply Co. He attended St. John’s United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Jaycees and the Palatka Elk’s Lodge. Mr. Icenhour is survived by his wife, Jeanne Marie Campbell Icenhour. They married on November 23, 1972 in Putnam County. He is also survived by his Mother; Ethel Icenhour of Palatka. His sons, Lawrence Icenhour, Orlando; Daughter; Lora Marie Copeland, New York City; Sister, Elizabeth Balsy, Orange Park, Fl. Kimbro, Albert “Lewis” Albert “Lewis Kimbro, Palatka, died at Shands Teaching Hospital, Gainesville, Fl. , on July 23, 1974. Lewis was a Slitter Operator-First Hand at Hudson Pulp & Paper. Coming from Florala, Alabama, Lewis lived in Palatka for 24 years, before his death. Lewis was preceded in death by his Father, John Wesley Kimbro. Kenneth Lightfoot 61, of Palatka, died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at his home from natural causes. He was a native of Florida, raised in Palatka, and returned there in the mid to late 1970s. Ken was the owner/operator of Lightfoot Fire Extinguisher Service in Palatka as well as Palatka Scuba International. In years past, he worked in Orlando at the Seaboard Coastline Railroad and later at Walt Disney World. He also worked at Boeing International at Cape Canaveral, Ryder Truck Lines in Jacksonville and with TWA Airlines. Ken was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palatka, Sunrise Rotary Club and a member of the board of directors of CIS (Communities In Schools). An expert scuba diver and instructor, Ken went on numerous world-wide diving expeditions including the Red Sea, the Caribbean, and his favorite dive site, Truk Lagoon in the South Pacific. Through his association with Sunrise Rotary, Ken had been on relief missions, one being to Hurricane Katrina victims in Moss Point, Miss. Ken loved his cats and had been a strong supporter of the Humane Society of Northeast Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry B. Lightfoot and Anona Perrin Lightfoot. He is survived by a sister, Suellen Ritter of Orlando and her children, Tracy Ritter and Esther Ritter, both of Orlando, and Jeremy Ritter and his wife, Sunshine, of Apopka, and their children, Bethanni Ritter and Ella Ritter. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Joan K Matthews Joan Knight Matthews, 59, of St. Augustine, died Thursday, September 16, 2004 at her home in St. Augustine after a short illness The Palatka native had lived in St. Augustine for the past five years coming from Palatka, where she lived for most of her life. She was a member of the first Presbyterian Church of Palatka and was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Gulf Park College in Mississippi and a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She taught school in Alpharetta, GA., and in the Putnam County School system. She is survived by two sons: Bruce Matthews of St. Augustine and Mitchell Matthews of Middleburg; one granddaughter, Lauren Victoria Matthews of Middleburg. Ivan May D. Ivan May, 60, of Hollister, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at his home following an extended illness. A native of Palatka, he had been a lifelong resident of Putnam County. Ivan retired as a control room operator at Georgia-Pacific, where he had worked for 35 years. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Francis Baptist Church. Ivan loved to fish and work in his yard. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Irma May; two sons, Ronald May of Kathleen, GA, and Michael May of Orlando, brother Warren May; two sisters, Christine and Lois Coulliette, all of Bostwick, two grandsons, Jeremy and Ryan May. Burial followed at Etoniah Cemetery in Bardin.

Maxwell Blue “Max” Mullis Maxwell Blue "Max" Mullis, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, he graduated from Palatka High School in 1961. Max served in the Army National Guard, Palatka unit, from 1965-1971. He retired from Georgia Pacific after 34 years of service. Max won the hearts of many through his welcoming smile, kind spirit and his dedication to Jesus Christ, his family and friends. He was a member of Christ Independent Methodist Church where he taught the Men's Sunday School Class for many years. He was a prayer warrior whose life was well lived as a servant to Jesus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Gator football and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard G and Mary B. Mullis. Max is survived by three sons, Howard Dean Mullis (Leah), David Ray Mullis (Susan) and Casey Edward Mullis (Ellie); a sister, Hazel Hinton (Ken); Reita Hagar his loving companion; six grandsons, Jared Dean Mullis, Chandler David Mullis, Landon Lee Mullis, Cody Maxwell Mullis, Tanner White and Caleb Retter, four granddaughters, Jenifer Suzanne Mullis, Lacey Blue Mullis, Addison Nettles and Lexy White; greatgrandson, Jayden Lane Peeples and nephews, Todd Ryan (Leigh) and Hank Ryan. Mary Alice Coppage Nitschke, 63, of Hahira died Friday, July 13, 2007 at her home. She was born on January 3, 1944 in Lowndes Country to the late Roy M. and Bessie Bell Cain Coppage and had lived in this area most of her life. Mrs. Nitschke loved spending time with her grandchildren, the outdoors and fishing. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, R . B. Nitschke of Hahira, son and daughter in law, Mike and Sonja Thomason of Valdosta, three grandchildren, Michael Thomason, Blake Thomason and Rhett Thomason, stepsons and stepdaughters in law, Ricky and Tina Nitschke of Valdosta, Mark and Brenda Nitschke of Lee, Florida. Leilani Sue Owen Leilani Sue Owen, 62, of East Palatka, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at her home. Leilani was born on Friday, September 7, 1945 in Palatka, FL to the late John P. and Gertrude A. Owen. Leilani was an accomplished artist, leaving many beautiful paintings to be enjoyed by her family and friends. She was extremely crafty, creating all sorts of macramé designs that were both sold and given to friends. She loved to cook and always had a loaf of bread and chocolate covered pecans to give a visitor. Leilani especially loved animals and plants. She had four dogs and loved them as if they were her children. If an animal came to her home injured or in need of first aid she took the animal in and did all she could to nurse it back to good health and find it a home. Leilani was a Master Gardner, born with a “Green Thumb”. The numerous beautiful flowers and plants one could see in her home, on the porch, and in her yard were a testament to her knowledge, love, and enjoyment she derived from planting all types of plants and flowers and watching them bloom and grow. Leilani’s talents and labors of love were obvious in the life she choose to live each and every day. She continuously amazed her family and friends with craftiness in the variety of accomplishments which she tireless labored on every day. Her grandsons were entertained for hours by the beautiful fish tanks she decorated and maintained. Leilani was truly blessed with many talents from God and touched everyone’s heart with these blessings. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Leilani leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, Dawn Glisson, of Palatka, FL; son, John Fortson, wife, Christie of Van Nuys, CA.; two grandsons, Steven and Jarrett Glisson; one granddaughter, Abby Ryder Fortson; brother, John C. Donna J. Register Donna Jean Motes Register, 67 of Palatka, passed away Sunday, Dec 2, 2012 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine following an extended illness. A native of St. Augustine, she graduated from Palatka High School in 1963. Donna Jean returned to Palatka nine years ago after having lived in the Orlando-Tampa areas for several years. She had worked as an administrative assistant at Florida Furniture and following that in the satellite division of General dynamics in Orlando. Donna Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palatka and was involved with "Live Strong" (Lance Armstrong organization) as well as the American Cancer society. She enjoyed her animals and working in the yard. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Frankie Motes and a sister, Connie Motes. She is survived by her daughter, Tami McLeod of Palatka, two brothers, Gerald Motes (Patricia) f Federal Pont and Jimmy Motes (Cathy) of Edgewater and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at 10AM Saturday, Dec. 9 at Oak Hill West Cemetery with Bro. Charlie Rabun officiating. Margie A. Riley Margie Alford Riley, 65, of St. Marys, Ga., passed away Monday, May 10, 2010, at Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring in Jacksonville following a brief illness. Margie was born April 30, 1945, in Palatka, and was a 1963 graduate from Palatka High School and was Potato Ball Queen. She was a civil service employee for the commissary for several years. Being a Navy wife, she accompanied her husband during duties to Huntsville, Ala., Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Bermuda, Jackson, TN, and Kings Bay, GA She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn Riley, USN Retired, her parents, Henry Marvin and Dora Craft Alford, and two brothers, Bruce and James Alford. She is survived by a son, Heath P. Riley, two sisters, Marion Strickland and Martha Stevenson and her husband, Walter, 5 brothers, Marvin Alford and his wife, June, Charlie Alford, J. C. Alford, Gene Alford, George Alford and wife Angela and her companion, Jimmy Venturella along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Saturday, May 15, at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with the Rev. Gene Maddox officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Saddler, Margaret Saddler Terrell Margaret Saddler Terrell, 61 of Palatka, died suddenly Thursday February 23, 2006, at Putnam Medical Center. Margaret was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka and a member of the Palatka Church of Christ. She worked as a waitress at Southwell’s Restaurant in Palatka for 16 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; Smith Raymond Saddler and Georgia Saddler Dupree, A Brother, Bill Saddler and a brother-in- law, Gene Lord. Margaret is survived by a Daughter; Alice Elizabeth Terrell of Jacksonville, Four Sons; William Paul Terrell, Jr.(Denise), Phillip Wade Terrell (fiancé, Patty Johns), Steven Terrell, Ronald Terrell (Jennifer), Glen Terrell, all of Palatka. Three sisters; Betty Bryant of Cocoa Beach, Mae Lord and Linda Owens (Buzz) all of Palatka. Sister-in-law Sue Sadler of Palatka; Seven Grandchildren; Brandon, Amber, Dalton Shelby, Lindsey, Cody and Emily Terrell, along with numerous Nieces and Nephews. In celebration of Margaret’s life, calling hours and a memorial video will be shown from 2-4 p.m., Sunday at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. Sandra J. Smith Sandra Jean Smith, 62, of Palatka lost a long, hard fight with an extended illness Thursday, July 12, 2007. She passed away at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center. She is in her final resting place and is finally at peace. She was born July 3, 1945, in Longview, Wash., and moved to Palatka in 1956. She was employed at the former Hudson Pulp & Paper Company in Palatka, where she worked in the tissue converting department. She was married at Calvary Baptist Church, where she was an active member. She was a lifetime honorary member of the Palatka Women’s Club. Sandra loved life and enjoyed helping others, especially the elderly and the needy. She volunteered in countless projects helping the community. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and just being out with family. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Lollie C. “Joe” and Hazel Marie Sanders Kinard; and her only brother, Robbie C. Kinard. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted caregiver and husband of 41 years, Oscar Smith of Palatka, who retired four years ago to devote full time loving care to his beloved wife; one daughter and son-in-law Sandra “Punkin” and Chris Davis of Hollister; two sons and daughters-in-law, John “Chuck” and Vera “Vicki” Smith, of Jacksonville, and Ricky “Jabo” and Jackie Smith of Hollister; eight beloved grandchildren Mathew, Mark and David Smith of Hollister, Yolanda “Loni” and Chelsea Davis of Hollister, Stephanie Davis of Osteen, Danielle Smith of Jacksonville and Jamie Briggs of The Colony, Texas; one great grandson, Jaxson “Cricket” Briggs of The Colony ; and a very special niece, Paula Morgan and husband, Larry Dale, of Georgia. Roy C. Strickland Sr. Roy Cecil Strickland, Sr., age 66 of Palatka, FL, passed away, Thursday, October 6, 2011 at his home following an extended illness. A native of St. Petersburg, FL, he had resided in Palatka since 1961 coming from Moultrie, GA. Roy was a supervisor for Azalea Meats for 11 years. Roy served as a Medical Specialist in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Vietnam War. He also had served as a volunteer at an orphanage while serving in Korea. Also, during his time in the service, Roy was awarded with a Drivers Badge and was designated as a Rifle Marksman. He was a member of Peniel Baptist Church, the DAV chapter # 56, an honorary member of the Cabbage Creek Hunt Club as well as, a former member of the Lions Club. Roy thoroughly enjoyed hunting trips to Colorado and will always be remembered for his willingness to help others. Roy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elaine Strickland, 3 sons, Roy C. Johnny Thomas, Sr. Johnny "Johnny Reb" Thomas Sr., 66 Palatka, died Friday, Sept 9, 2011 at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville after an extended illness He was a native of Waycross, Ga., and a lifelong resident of Palatka. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and had worked for 35 years as a Towmother driver with Georgia-Pacific. He was an avid hunter, co-founder and lifetime member of Putnam County Hunters Association. He loved his family very much and especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play baseball. He was preceded in death by his father, Omer Gilbert Thomas and a son, Johnny Ray Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Thomas of Palatka, faughters, Missy Barber and Husband, Kin, of Bardin, Bobbie Jo Waltimyer and husband, Shawn, and Angel Lozada and husband, Ivan, all of Palatka; son, Johnny "J.J." Glenda Jean Wells September 8, 1945 – July 7, 2013 Glenda F. Wells Glenda Fulton Wells, 67, of San Mateo, went to be with the Lord, Sunday July 7, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born at the Glendale Hospital in Palatka and was a lifelong resident of Putnam County having lived in Bardin, Palatka and later in San Mateo. Mrs. Wells was a 1963 graduate of the Palatka Senior High School. She was formerly employed by the Palatka Daily News where she worked as a typesetter for over 10 years. She was a Christian and attended the Peniel Baptist Church. She served as a volunteer at the Library at the Peniel Baptist Academy for over 10 years. Mrs. Wells was a founding member of the Putnam County Tea Party and had marched in Washington, D.C. She loved cats and M & M s. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond O. Fulton. Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Gerald M. “Mike” Wells, Sr. of San Mateo; one son and daughterin-law, Mike and Sandra Wells of Palatka; one daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Eric Peters of San Mateo; mother, Kathleen I. Fulton of Palatka; one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Esther Fulton of Zephyrhills, FL; two sisters, Buena Wilkinson and Kathleen A.
