Helpful tips on your finances Savings Smart tips to consider when deciding on a saving account l If saving for short term needs like holidays or Christmas, look for a savings account with a good rate of interest and easy access to your money. For

long term goals (like children’s education) a financial planning review may help identify the most suitable product.

l Some savings accounts offer better interest rates if you can put your money aside for a certain length of time. So identify how much access you need.

l Some types of investment offering a potentially higher return may involve a risk – e.g. those linked to the stock market. Think carefully about how much risk you are prepared to take with your money.

l Get into the habit of moving money every month from your current

account to a savings account. Setting up a direct debit or standing order can make this easier.

It is a good idea to build up a ‘peace of mind’ savings fund of at least three

months income. This will allow you to prepare for the unexpected, such as illness.
