A BLESSED CHRISTMAS TO ALL   

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word   Was with God, and the Word was God….  And the Word became flesh….” (Jn 1:1, 14)      

These  words:  “The  Word  became  flesh  and  dwelt  among  us”    are  no  figure  of  speech.    They  point  to  a  lived  experience!    St.  John,  an  eyewitness,  tells us  so:  “We  have  beheld  His  glory  as  the  only  Son  from  the  Father,  full  of  grace  and  truth.”  The  Apostolic  faith  testifies that the eternal Word became one of us.  The  divine Word is truly expressed in human words.        

The Fathers of the Church found in their Greek trans‐ lation  of  the  Old  Testament  a  passage  from  the  prophet  Isaiah  that  St.  Paul  also  quotes  in  order  to  show how God’s  new ways had already been foretold  in  the  Old  Testament.    There  we  read:  “The  Lord  made His Word short, He abbreviated it.” (Is 10:23)  (Rom 9:28).  The Son Himself is the Word, the Logos:  The  eternal  Word  became  small‐small  enough  to  fit  into a manger.  He became a child, so that the Word  could be grasped by us.  Now the Word is not simply  audible; not only does it have a voice,  now the Word  has  a  face,  one  which  we  can  see:  That  of  Jesus  of  Nazareth.           ‐Pope Benedict XVI: The Word of the Lord

My Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ: “In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled” (Luke 2:1). With those words begins one of the most beautiful stories of all time, the story of the birth of Jesus, a story that remains ever fresh, never growing old for more than 2,000 years. There is one verse in the story, however, that is sometimes overlooked. Once the shepherds have come and gone from the birthplace of Jesus, Mary and Joseph are alone once again with their child and “Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart” (Luke 2:19). The Blessed Mother is captured in silent reflection. Imagine Mary and all she has experienced. From the announcement of her being chosen by God as the mother of the Savior, through the hurried pilgrimage to Bethlehem, to the birth of her Son with strangers coming to visit him and with angels on site. Mary takes a deep breath and drinks it all in — not missing a single moment of the beauty of her Son’s birth. This Christmas, we should all take that breath like Mary. To pause and think and pray. To reflect on what the story of the birth of Jesus truly means to us and for us; to reflect on how we can and must live our lives differently because of Jesus as “God with us”; to make sure that we truly take this story to heart, as Mary did in that little town of Bethlehem. Together with Fr. John, Deacon John, Sis, Paul, and the entire staff, I wish you a joy-filled, peaceful, grace-filled — and reflective — Christmas. It is my hope that you can steal away a few moments of quiet at Christmas so that, like Mary, we all too can keep this great day close to our hearts. It is my prayer that you and I can live each day in 2017 grateful for our belief that “Nothing is Impossible with God.” Your Brother in Christ, Fr. Luis R. Rivera

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:    "En aquellos días, un decreto salió de César Augusto para que todo el mundo fuera in‐ scrito" (Lucas 2: 1). Con esas palabras comienza una de las historias más hermosas de to‐ dos los tiempos, la historia del nacimiento de Jesús, una historia que permanece siempre  fresca, nunca envejeciendo por más de 2.000 años.    Sin embargo, hay un versículo en la historia que a veces se pasa por alto. Una vez que los  pastores han venido y salido del lugar de nacimiento de Jesús, María y José están solos  una vez más con su hijo y "María guardó todas estas cosas, reflexionando sobre ellas en  su corazón" (Lucas 2:19).    La Santísima Virgen es capturada en silenciosa reflex‐ ión. Imagina a María y todo lo que ha experimentado.  Desde el anuncio de su elección por Dios como la ma‐ dre  del  Salvador,  a  través  de  la  peregrinación  apre‐ surada  a  Belén,  al  nacimiento  de  su  Hijo  con  extran‐ jeros  que  venían  a  visitarlo  y  con  ángeles  en  el  lugar.  María respira profundamente y lo bebe todo, sin perder  un  solo  momento  de  la  belleza  del  nacimiento  de  su  Hijo.    Esta Navidad, todos deberíamos tomar ese aliento co‐ mo María. Hacer una pausa y pensar y orar. Reflexionar  sobre lo que la historia del nacimiento de Jesús signifi‐ ca verdaderamente  para nosotros; Para  reflexionar  so‐ bre  cómo  podemos  y  debemos  vivir  nuestras  vidas  de  manera  diferente  por  causa  de  Jesús como "Dios con nosotros"; para asegurarnos de que realmente tomamos esta histo‐ ria al corazón, como lo hizo María en esa pequeña ciudad de Belén.    Junto con el P. John, Diacono John, Sis, Paul, y todo el personal, les deseo una Navidad  llena de alegría, pacífica, llena de gracia y reflexiva. Espero que puedan tomad unos mo‐ mentos de tranquilidad esta Navidad para que, como María, todos podamos mantener  este gran día cerca de nuestros corazones. Es mi oración que tú y yo podamos vivir cada  día en 2017 agradecidos por nuestra creencia de que "Nada es Imposible con Dios".    Su hermano en Cristo,  Fr. Luis R. Rivera

The  SP  Women’s  Club  is  comprised  of  SEASONAL  and  LOCAL members of the parish who gather on the  2nd Monday of the month in the Parish Hall at 5:00  PM.  Meetings  include  dinner.  All  are  welcome.  Please call Sue Palguta @ 305‐393‐3378.      

The  Rosary  Group  meets  First  Saturday  in  the  Ro‐ sary  Garden  @12:00  Noon  and every morning M‐F @  7:30 am before daily Mass. It’s a wonderful way to start  the day.     

The Arts & Crafts Ladies have suspended their weekly  meeting  until  January  Please  watch  this  space  and  please keep knitting!!
